And they all run on the same ISImotor game engine.
I knew that, just not that the .gdb was across all of them. Although would it be possible to create a new .gdb by copying 1 .gdb and just changing some stuff in them and adding the correct class names to the .car files? Mainly for rFactor.

After messing with some .gdb's I have worked out how to add new car classes to GTL and made a video tutorial on it if anyone else wishes to do it. Great for creating full grids for specific racing series:

Eh, this is a years old method and quite... useless.
This is much more handy: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=39022
I created tons of custom classes from a ton of mods back in the day.
Escort vs. Kadett vs. Skyline is a great combo.

Yes. Can also do that with the .rfm files and create new series that way.

Hmm I know that. My point is that the AI are far quicker in quali than they are in the race, so after a while you realise that quali is no indication of what you will be up against in the race. I wasn't always qualifying in pole but still leaving the field for dust in the race, so switched to semi-pro, which is giving me a good balance in races for now.

EDIT: Must admit I am a little confused by all the Simbin titles, I seem to have GT Legends, Race 07, GTR, GTR Evolution but not GTR2. Then there is a GTR Evolution expansion for Race 07 on Steam? Then the Power & Glory mods, of which there are more than one? I guess I can just play through the campaigns on the ones I have, then seek out GTR2 and any mods...

GT Legends is old school cars, but with modern day tires.

GTR & GTR2 is based on FIA GT. Just get GTR2 because it contains all cars & tracks from GTR1 as well.

Power & Glory is a non-official mod of GTR2's engine, in the style of GT Legends. Basically GTR2 tracks + GT Legends cars (with period correct tires), but much more extensive. Their latest version is v3.1 (all the updates are cumulative so just get the latest one). You can install it separately from GTR2, but you need GTR2 installed on your PC because it copies over some files.

Race 07 is based on WTCC. GTR EVO is an expansion for this game and adds GT cars and Nordschleife (you also get a new UI - red instead of blue). There's also plenty of other expansion packs like GT Power, GT Retro, etcetera. Simbin packages all of these DLCs into one final game called Race Injection - but oddly it doesn't contain the GTR EVO content, go figure.

TLDR: If you want all of the experience with minimal price, get GTR2, Power & Glory and Race Injection. Then go hunt for Nordschleife mod for Race 07 to complete the missing GTR EVO content.

GTR2 is my favourite so I use it and GTL (Haven't tried P&G in a while). Also you need GTR EVO for some Race 07 mods to install. I also think GTR2 has the most mods out of them all.

Thanks guys, just about getting my head around it all now. Only one more question, what cars and tracks do the P&G mods cover? All the cars and tracks from both GTR2 and GTL? Any additional fan-modded cars or do you still need to add these yourself?

It adds all the GTR2 tracks and GTL cars (with improved quality and sounds) in a seperate installation. When getting it make sure you get the full 3.0 install THEN the 3.1 update or the mod won't work. Also, try and use clean (un-modded) installs of GTL and GTR2 for installing P&G.

I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that all the mods work with the Steam versions of the games? Please don't tell me I need to track down disc versions (and mess around trying to bypass Starforce protection) :)

I guess I could cool my boots and look all this up when I am bored of the career modes of the games, enjoying that in GTL right now.

Steam version works completely fine. I use Steam version of GTR2, GTL and rFactor and all mods work as well as they should.

@Tyger For P&G you get the standard cars of GTL but you also get extra versions and the names are more detailed.

Full car and track list (no mods)

Thanks man, much appreciated :)

EDIT: I can't help noticing that they are almost all existing cars from the vanilla GTL, with some (often kinda tenuous) variations, perhaps I'm still not getting it, are the GTR2 tracks much better than those in GTL? Also do any of those have cockpit view or is that just in other mods?

Depends what you like in terms of tracks. IMO 80% of the tracks are the same between GTR2 and GTL anyway. It doesn't make that much difference.

The main attraction for P&G is the cars. It might seem like they are the same, but believe me, they are VASTLY SUPERIOR in terms of quality to the GTL vanilla cars. Better sounds, better models, more accurate performance and better tire/suspension physics. The GTL cars are based on the modern FIA vintage championship. The cars are old, but they use modern day tires. The cars in P&G are presented as they have raced in the past. Bicycle tires and marshmallow suspension means they are a lot more lively and challenging to drive. You'll get up on 3 wheels all the time in hard cornering. Cockpit view standard in all cars and you also get a blurb of history in car info (like in Gran Turismo). It's an awesome, awesome mod trust me. It's free so you really got nothing to lose 👍

The only problem with it is that there is no extra cars beyond what you get so any GTL car mods won't transfer over, but all GTR2 addon tracks work perfectly fine with P&G. Hence why I use GTL for recreating real classic race series (IMSA GT) and P&G for playing the FIA Historic.

Thanks again for clarifying guys. I'm finding the basic Elan lively enough on Semi-Pro in GTL so the P&G versions will be interesting for sure. Cockpit view will be nice too although I use chase cam for the most part. In fairness I can tell that whoever modded those basic cars into their numerous iterations with different engine capacities and performance stats put a lot of time and effort into it.

If you use chase cam there is a new HUD as well.

(The shaded parts are from a HUD plugin I have for GTR2/rFactor)

Not exactly.

GT Legends is historic racing in today's world, ie old cars with modern tyres etc.

P&G is set in the 60's, ie historic cars with historic tyres etc.

Yeah that was an oversight on my part. I was just giving him the general summaries of each games. Though I did say the tires are different a few posts further down:

Also amended my original post. Aren't we all simracers an OCD bunch? :P

I'd say the whole wanting to go faster and get better is an OCD characteristic. Otherwise we wouldn't be spending so much time with anything. :P

I have a free Steam Key for GT Legends for the first person to indicate they can use it, or they can pass it on to a friend. Got it as part of a bundle but already own it, and none of my friends really play PC driving games.

At the moment my main platform for games is PS4. I do not know if my laptop i5-2430M can run the game, but I'd like to try. My dream of having a gaming PC is still alive.
