GT series on the PC?

No it won't, GT is a Sony title and while it's a PS exclusive series it will help sales of PS2's and PS3 I'm sure in the future. As soon as that title becomes available on another platform then it's no longer exclusive to PS owners and people who don't own a PS or PS2 don't need to buy one to play the game. At the end of the day, something like this has nothing to do with how good it would run on another platform, it's gaming politics.

There was once talk of the GT series going on to the PC. It was about the time of GT2's release. Nothing ever came of it though. Just like nothing ever game of the Gran Turismo arcade machines.

Thanks for that link about GTR. Never even heard of the game until now and the screens and vids look sweet. Cant wait until I can get my hands on a demo. I wonder if it will hit the Xbox after the PC release. Im getting confilcting info on whether or not its PC only.

I think it overstretches the X-box's capabilities, the official info last time I checked was PC only.

Racing against 50+ other cars online would certainly be stretching it for the Xbox. Wouldnt suprise me if its PC only.

Im just going to have to break down and upgrade my PC :(

We did this to death a couple of years ago in this thread.

Sony will never allow the GT series to go to the PC. This is one game that sells consoles - it would never be in Sony's interests to dilute that by letting it go to another console, particularly when the developer is Sony itself.

This game does look pretty interesting, though. We were about due for another FIA GT series - wonder if they've got rights to Le Mans.

Looks like a really cool game, is there a demo already?? I will go with the PC version, since "su-xbox" have no FFB steering wheel. :odd:

No demo yet, it's upposed to be coming soon as in 2 or 3 weeks soon.

Umm Vatman, the PC is not a console I wish people would stop saying that as it is totally untrue. I would love the GT series to go to PC, imagine the graphics and how far they could push everything. I agree that it should stay on PS2 console wise and not go to Xbox or something but the PC is a different kettle of fish.

About that GTR game man does that look nice, fully rendered cockpit, GT like track graphics, looks like I'll settle for this seeing as GT will probably never appear on PC.

I don't recall saying the PC was a console. It is, however, a competing game format, just like the X-Box and the Gamecube.

An example - I own both a reasonable spec PC and a PS2, and I play games on both. If there was a PC version of GT3 or GT4 that I could run to as good as, if not better, performance than the PS2 version, there is a very high probability that I would not have bought a PS2. I'm sure I am not unique in this situation - LoudMusic comes immediately to mind.

As mentioned extensively, the number of sales of a console is a direct driver for the amount of software sold on it. Sony make their money from the licensing fees for games sold to run on the PS2.

Given that Polyphony Digital is owned by Sony, and also given that, as demonstrated above, that the release of a Gran Turismo game would cost Sony PS2 sales and therefore impinge on the lucrative income stream of licensing fees, it makes absolutely no sense that Sony's own publisher would threaten Sony revenue streams by releasing such a major title on what is a competing format.

End of story.

You did actually refer to the PC as a console
it would never be in Sony's interests to dilute that by letting it go to another console

But I understand what you mean and I too wouldn't have bought a PS2 if GT3 was being released on PC so I get ya.

su-xbox...another person with no idea

GT4 on the xbox would be fricking sweet, better graphics and sound no doubt, but theres more chance of halo 2 coming to the PS2 as an exclusive :)

It's not that simple. The PC saw Final Fantasy series for instance. I don't think Sony considers the PC a rivalling sales platform as much. I think if PD wants to do it, they'll get the green light. I do, however, think the PC sucks as a platform for this type of game and I would still buy the game on the PS2, unless the PC version offers something significantly more realistic in terms of driving behaviour. The reason for this is that much of what I do with GT is competitive, and with everyone having the same spec PS2, competition is great. This is what makes GT3 iLinks events anbsolutely top notch and the same will go for GT4 events and online racing. The PC has lousy framerates due to it's slow horizontal refresh rate and even at 120hz the refresh looks like sirup. You'd have to connect it to a tv, etc. But it's all too much hassle. I've been playing a lot of online PC racing with Mods and it is great, mind you, but so much hassle ... pfff.

Still I wouldn't mind if they did a PC game at all. Just hire a really good team and let them cut in on all the research already done for the PS2 version. As long as it doesn't get in the way of the PS2 versions' development, I don't mind. :D I'd probably buy both versions.

EDIT: and yes, GTR2003 is planned for Xbox. The question is how much will it be dumbed down and will it support a Force Feedback wheel. The only charm of the GTR series to me is its realism, even in this latest build, and it's so realistic that you just have to play it with a wheel. There's really no other way, unless you put all the assists on perhaps (but then you're still slow). This is why I like the game, nothing else. It doesn't have special graphics, and it still doesn't in this newest build. It's just really realistic driving. Hopefully the AI/oppenent cars are drawn a bit better than in the current version, where they sometimes seem to be plotted on the track rather than driving on it, even offline or in replays.

This has me thinking. Gran Turismo was so perfect on the Playstation One. I think the Playstations 1 and 2 (and upcoming 3) will further stretch the potential of the GT series as long as its shelf life remains intact. It is going on 10 years old once maybe 2007 rolls around. But if you ask me, I think I'd want to see how GT would do on PC.

To me, it would have to get a special name so that it doesn't get confused with the Playstation variant. I would think that "GT Advance" for the Game Boy Advance SEEMED like the Playstation classic, just made for the GBA, courtesy of THQ. But back to GT. I think if PD wanted to make GT for the PC, they'd have to start with something that my computer can handle. With 32 megs of RAM on my machine, a special convergence of GT1 and GT2 from PSOne would make a nice PC game. Now while you may not get the GT3 style of gameplay, you can still have a lot of fun, and maybe even download new cars that will work with the game. Thing is, I don't think GT3 or even GT4 will translate as beautifully as the PS2 would. So a PC version of Gran Turismo? Crawl before you walk, I say. Start simple. You can start with the GT1 and GT2 games and give them enhanced physics like GT3. This would be a special convergence. Maybe even give out special color-shifting colors for cars, even the Reflex Spice for the TVRs. So GT for the PC would have to start slow, then go all-out. If I come up with more commentary, I'll come back here in the future.
