Gran Turismo VS Fortnite is a rather terrible comparison. Its David VS Goliath kind of thing.

Better comparison would be either other racing games or games with similar playerbase count like Madden.

I'm perfectly ok with different people seeing different things in that meme above.

It wasn't exactly meant as a comparison. If you'd want to compare you'd have to do some maths.
My quick shot ( just going by the playerbase ) says, 500,000 Dollars of overall GT Sport prizes would roughly match Fortnite dimensions. Of course you might consider other parameters on top.

It's been more trying to visualize one single ( and astonishing ) aspect of the current E Sport scenery.
While we are discussing - which again is perfectly ok - whether our GT Sport champions should be awarded some serious amounts of prize money, a 16 year old grabs 3M ...
