GT sport with controller

One thing that helped me with Motion steering was switching to cockpit view. Now I can see the drivers hands on wheel. Since the feedback of steering is pretty bad this could be worth a try...

After having two wheels previously and selling both, recognising that they weren't getting much use and were taking up lots of space and making the place look untidy, I swore to myself that I wouldn't buy another wheel.

At the moment I'm enjoying the game just fine with the DS4, so there seems little point in buying a wheel. I have tried various things to mount wheels to in the past, but none has ever offered much stability. As such, it looks like a full-on playseat type setup would be required, which would cost a fortune and take up even more room. I just can't justify that.

I use a controller and yes you can map buttons, but apparently not all options some would like. My lap times are well off the top 10 by a few seconds usually but I win an occasional race and my DR is B, SR is S.

Been seeing a lot of posts that the handling with the controller during the closed beta was better compared to the full game. Who here thinks Update 1.04 would fix it back to what it was in the closed beta?

Good luck hot-lapping a RWD car with traction control OFF with a controller. The precision required is too much at this point. I've been playing with a controller since GT1 and can't do it anymore. I'm looking for deals on Thrustmaster for Black Friday. I'm done. These cars feel like they're on ice skates.

For hot laps I think it feels fine, I'm able to get top 10 quali times for the daily races. But I have a hard time being consistent in a race and not crashing. Whenever I have a small amount of oversteer, I always overcorrect and go spinning the opposite way. I think they could do a better job with the vibration, and having your controller vibrate as soon as your wheels start spinning.

I find the controller more than tolerable, I’m usually getting quali times around 2 seconds off the top rank guys and genrally 1-3rd most grids which I think is decent considering I’m Auto as well.

I totally agree that the vibration feedback could be way better. Unless you’re on the ripple strips you barely feel anything in game and it really disappoints to add to the experience and immersion.

I’m in the same boat. Might grab a T80 just until the black friday sales.

It's excellent with motion controls (and I use the right stick for throttle/brakes, but that's mostly because of recurring wrist problems, otherwise it would be R2/L2) - far better than Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa. I tried my Thrustmaster T150 once with GTS and then decided I couldn't be bothered to set it up every time since I was having almost as much fun with the controller, and was just as quick.

With patch 1.03 it's also easier to catch and hold slides than pretty much any other racing game (bar ultra arcade racers) I've played in several years, including DriveClub (which I love). I do think I might have the oversteer correction aid turned on though, I can't remember. Not sure if it's good enough for the actual drifting events, I utterly suck at drifting in any racing game.

Best way to play game and have fun. One of the best racing games to play with controller. Maybe the best out there. Cars so well balanced and so good controllable.

No it doesn't. It's all over the place when you need to do some corrections and was supposed to be fixed in 1.03 but it's still bad.
GT6 and GTS closed beta were much better with controller.

This last update feels pretty good. Seems pretty easy to correct a slide now.

I don't know if you have seen or felt it, but GT sport has a way different physics schematic than previous GT games. ;)

Personally i prefer it with the controller at the moment. I really enjoyed pCars with my T150, but i just cannot get used to GT Sport with the wheel!! I will keep persevering though because i am way off the pace in the daily races!!

You know the T80 is just a glorified controller with no FFB right?
Yes, but just being able to use pedals I have better throttle control, and even without FFB turning is much smoother.

25 years of manual labor and my thumbs don’t work like they used to. I need them to play guitar which is more important than video games.

Hi all,it's my first post in here.im thinking in buying the game, firstly does it play ok with the controller as I don't have a wheel setup.many thanks
Make sure to research more, I think they ****ed it all up since gt4 they should have kept all the basics from gt4 ; 1. vehicle modification (no longer possible) 2. controller configuration (can not configure the controlls) and 3. driving realism (gt4 for ps2 was more realistic handling wise) these three things were the most important parts of the game I was so excited to get ps4 just because of this game! Come to find out they destroyed it. Now I own it and every time I play I get pissed off

It feels better than i expected, but there is one problem for me thats not PD's fault. The trigger are too short and don't have vibrations in them. When i play Forza and switch back to GTS, its like the controller battery is low and the vibrations are off. the difference that these triggers make is really huge, like a FFB wheel vs no FFB wheel. You can't feel when the car lose grip or when the ABS work. Other than that its excellent. I hope that Sony put vibrations in the triggers on there next controller.

The triggers in the DS4 are way better than the DS3. I got those trigger clip ons back then. The triggers were way too short and at an awkward angle. Much more comfortable now.

I agree though, triggers like the XB would be a godsend.

Use Motion Controller...even my kids can drive smoothly and very short learning time
