I don't know about you all but I've just gotten a little nostalgic and taken a look back in time and remembered memories of the past GTs and well it's pretty damn surprising! I can remember back in '98 right after I got my PS, which at the time was pretty gutsy since I'm not a gamer but soon after I found out that GT was coming out. The first time I laided eyes on that game was a demo that came with the system, even 5 yrs. later my mouth is still dragging on the floor and I though after each GT came out "damn I can't go back now".

After breaking this idea I've seen GT2 and well it's not all that great and I don't know why I thought it was. It was like the sequel to the Matrix, bad. The graphics crappy (compared to GT) and the physics sucked. Then GT3 came out, Wow! It was like the light at the end of the tunnel, everythings is clearer and everythings dialed in just right (or is it? GT4!).

Then there is GT the game that started it all. It's a classic it's still holding up today I think. I saw Auto moditila (sp?) at Fry's today and well after looking at GT it's not all that impressive I think GT is still unbeatin and maybe GT3 comes close. For how long GT has been around though it's still great and I think I'll actually start playing it again along with gt3. :D Thanks

I've never heard anybody say they thought GT2 had "crap physics" and worse graphics than GT1.

GT1 started it all, but that's insanity to ignore the fact that GT3 has much better physics and 100X better graphics than GT1. There are some nice things about GT1 & GT2 that are missing in GT3, but the games are still hard to play these days. Compared to GT3, the controls are twitchy, the cars don't feel quite right, and it just looks so bad.

I did go back and get gold on 58 of the 60 license tests in GT2 while my PS2 was getting fixed, but now that I've got my PS2 back, I don't think I'll be playing GT2 again anytime soon.

GT3 all the way, GT2 was great and all, but I never liked it, nor did I want to play it, and GT1 never EVER Caught my fancy, but GT3 I fell in love with.

then you will never feel the same as alot of others, who followed GT when it 1st went on sale. you never felt the anticipation of the GT2, going into the store & asking the clerk when it will come out (sequels usually come out after 1yr, but we had to wait another 6months.)

i'm not hatin on ya, but it's like meeting ppl who have owned the same car for 30+ yrs & then talkin to a high school kid who just got his '99 Camaro Z28.

the range of conversation about this 1 subject is limited. i go back to play GT2 more than i do GT1 cuz it has the classic cars, US UK & JDM. the grafx are secondary, it was always about the fun.

I started with GT2, bought GT1 later on just as an "expansion pack" when I felt bored with GT2. But since I've had GT3 for a month now I haven't turned back.

I think that's fair: After all, I'd played GT2 for over 3 years!

i still play GT2 because all the cars its got, mmmm....sileighty ,HKS drag cars, Cuda and other muscle cars etc

All three of them are GREAT.
I started with GT1 when it came out - played like crazy, it was soooo fun. Then I continued with GT2 when it was released. I was a little disappointed in GT2 but love it all the same, and played it alot. GT3 is great. I've played it for some time now and I like it very much, but somehow I can't help feeling GT1 is my favorite.

It's not that I think anyone is bad, I too was hooked on each one it's just that now that I look back at each one from the time when they came out I think GT1 is still a classic and a true essence of GT and the second one isn't that great but the third is great but for GT1's time it's still a great game and even some of the new car games out have a hard time competing with GT1 let alone getting close to GT3 No one has touched GT3 maybe GT1.

Nick:banghead:

I loved all three, but the best one was GT3 hands down. The only complaint I have was the number of cars availiable, which wasn't too impressive, but otherwise it was great!

GT1 is one of the all time great games people always say ''oh it looks cr4p now'' but 5 years ago it really was something special we should never forget that. The thing I find with the GT games is once I've completed them they lose there appeal to me but the challenges on this website keep it alive, personally tho my favorite of the series is GT3.

i'm going to have to say GT2.

A) Variety is the spice of life, GT2's car selection is probably the most varied for a racing game to date. From classic American Muscle, to Group B rally cars, Touring cars, supercars, GT Spec cars, classics, kei cars and daihatsu midgets. I've had GT2 since late 1999 and i'm still suprised to discover a new gem. This doesn't seem to happen in GT3.
B) GT3's Simulation mode gets a bit boring when you get to the pro season. 3 or 4 20 lap races in a GT-0ne is ok, but 10? With work it took me about 2 weeks to get through one of those. Also the AI doesn't help by being stupid. The only big championship I enjoyed was the PD cup.

One point for GT3 is that, the physics car much improved over GT2. I mean most MR cars in GT2 seem to be involved in a constant slide whilst cornering and the FF cars seem to be devoid (mostly) of understeer, making them better than they actually are.

I don't think it's any less boring going through and doing all the manufacturer's events in GT2.

The only two series races that have 20-lap races in GT3 are the PD Cup and the Formula GT, and you said you enjoyed the PD Cup, so this really doesn't make sense. Either of those events only takes as much time as two endurance races, so if you're going to get bored, it'll still probably be in endurance.

Well, I meant like the GT Allstars cup and the GT World championship. I stopped playing my current GT3 save mid pro JGTC cup. I must admit, about 90% of the manufacturer races were annoying as hell, because the majority of them were really crappy cars. I quite enjoy endurance races, eiher being closely run, or a 60 lap timetrial.

I like GT2 as the best and other people may have a different oppinion.

GT3 ought to have a "championship clinched" feature, so when you're ahead of the AI by enough to take the title, you don't have to race the remaining events. Too many long series of races in GT3, in my opinion; some of us only have time for a quick race or two.

You can do that, if your ahead of points you can quit the rest of the races and still win the championship. It's usually about 6 wins in a row and then you can quit the rest. Although this doesn't aid the games completion status.

Blah. No good. The Altezza LM is whipping the JGTC Amateurs and I'm bored already.

Oh well, great car, anyhow!

Well, you are using an overpowered car.
Try using a slightly modified Z06, if you want a challenge.

In my opinion, GT2 was the best. Obviously the graphics were not as good, but how it drove was better. You could feel more of a difference between the cars. For example, in GT2, lets say the SaleenSR and the TVR Speed 12. If I took a bumpy turn in the saleenSR it would handle it pretty well, but in the speed12 the car would feel totally unstable and if you were not careful it would spin.

But now in GT3 we have all this traction controll? So now it made the game much easier to play, it "softened" how the car used to feel. There are differences in the cars but not that much.

What are all you guys using the TC at? I usually try to keep it as low as possible, like 2 - 3 for the stability and 1 - 2 for the TC.

I shut off the Stability and Traction Controllers. Zero for each. They take away the feeling of cornering; they don't teach you how to drive a high-powered car carefully. Not to mention, it degrades my natural style of driving hard into tight corners, and makes my lap times worse. I used it only once or twice in GT2; but it didn't improve my lap times (it made me faster in the high-speed stuff, but sluggish in the slow corners).

I miss a lot of the fun courses PD removed from GT2; no Autumn Ring, Red Rock Valley, High Speed Ring, Rome Night, Pikes Peak, and Green Forest Raceway. Bring them back in GT4! I also miss the Venturis, Vectors, the used car lots, and the GT300 cars of GT2. On the other hand, a lot of the slow and uninspiring cars from GT2 are gone from GT3.

I think I only used TCS on SSR11 when I was running a 1200bhp GT-One, even on quite a low setting it was quite effecitve through all those sharp turns and hairpins. If I ever go about using the Speed 12 in GT3, i'll be sure to use it then.

But they took out allot of the slow cars that were quite fun to drive when tuned. Like the 83' starlet, March Super turbo (ugly as hell) and the old Fiat 500.

so most of you guys don't use the TC? Maybe thats why I don't like how the cars drive in GT3, although I keep the TC low, sometimes almost zero, it still makes you feel disconnected from the car.

If the tires are smoking when you're accelerating, you'd obviously be better off with a little TCS... It's just that 1 or 2 will usually take car of it. If you see the TCS light flash when you've got traction, it's set way too high.

You can leave TCS off altogether if you just have good accelerator control, or shift early.

Anyway, I certainly don't think pupik was implying that you would get better times by burning out in the first few gears, because that would be wrong.

And Grindelwald, Clubman Rt. 5, Grand Valley East, Tahiti Rt. 3, and Rome Short Course!

And Autumn Mini was cute. :)

It does burn-out more, but it's more fun throwing the car around with the TCS/ASC off. Even on settings like 1 or 2, it just doesn't feel right. It feels like cheating.

what about cars like the supra with 1000+hp, how would you run fast lap times with the TC off on that car? It will spin the tires in 4th gear?

This is why I liked GT2 it didnt have this problem, in GT2 I felt totally connected to the car. I get a feeling of driving on ice with GT3.

I am not saying that, I am just saying that it seems like they made the game so that you would have to use TC on most cars. In GT2 the cars would smoke the tires in 1st gear, 2nd gear, and some of them would do 3rd.

I think my real complaint is with the ASC or whatever, not the TC. If you have the stability control on zero alot of the cars will just oversteer like crazy. Even if your taking a turn at a reasonable speed the rear will just slide out.

Since they made the hp and speed of the cars more "real" than they should have included custom tire sizes to compensate for the hp.

I agree with Boosted Cobra and Race Idiot in saying GT2 was hands down the greatest. The Variety in GT2 allowed me to play GT2 from when it came out to when GT3 came out. I used to race with my friends muscle car vs. import, new muscle car vs old muscle car, old import vs. new import, etc. For goodness sake GT2 had the 2000gt, the datsun z, the 1st gen rx7, GT-C mazdaspeed RX7, R34 GT-s, '69 'vette, GTX, Superbird, etc. etc. etc. I STILL play GT2 once in a while so I can drive a sil-80 or a levin ae86. (I also love doing Cartwheels with the Escudo in GT2) hehe

Truthfully, I was pretty dissappointed when GT3 came out 'cause it seemed like a step backward. GT3 seemed more related to GT1 than the King Kong GT2. Of course I have since come to appreciate the beauty of GT3 though drifting.

I guess that's why I'm so super hyped for GT4. Rumor has it it'll have the same # of cars as GT2 and combine that with the superior graphics of GT3, the physics of GT3 and the analog control of GT3, GT4 should decimate all. :)

I have to agree with you that yes I was dissappointed with gt3 and thought it did take a step back at first because they didn't continue the vareity of cars but the improved graphics and physics made up for it greatly.
