i remember the first car i bought. It was a used blue mitsubishi mirage(or colt). then after that i had a used white mitsubishi lancer evo 3. Oh i had some good times with that. and the rest is history......

First car i got was a sylvia and i bought a racing muffler. it had the deepest growl. Was so cool to see the affect on the car!

Long Live GT

I used to sit up late at night in my grandparents house (who I lived with) with a Mad Catz wheel and pedals playing the game until 2:00-3:00 AM with the lights off so I was not distracted. Damn, that just infected me.

Now, if I only had a wheel for GT3....

I remember hearing about this awesome car game, then I got the demo and suddenly my brother and I were so hooked on it... we didn't have enough money for a Playstation but had enough for the game, so we bought it before buying the console... we would rent the console from Blockbusters, but not everyday. After one month we bought the console and started playing hardcore. We had big races between us, each trying to better the other's times with different cars. We'd challenge each other all the time. After a while he went to college and I left for the Army, he concentrated his free time to studying, me to Gran Turismo :D I went on to GT2, GT3, etc... but I remember GT1 well, I miss many of its cars, like the Nissan Plusar GTi and many others. I remember how much the game ruled, the whole thing of learning to drive the game, tuning the cars, earning money, damn that game was cool. Once in a blue moon I'll pop the GT1 disc in the PS2 and play it a bit, just for nostalgia sake... the GT series has come a long way and today tha future looks as exciting as those early laps around autumn ring or R11...

To me, Gran Turismo perfectly balanced arcade with simulation. Of course, you could race professionally on city streets while watching the bright lights of the city glitter on your metallic red Camaro, British Racing Green Aston Martin, or the most popular car in the GT series- the fire-breathing Castrol Supra. Gran Turismo 1 did not have the enhanced capabilities of its later titles, but you have to admit how much fun it can be. Only thing that WASN'T fun was racing Autumn Ring (except the mini course). Why did I say that? To me, that track is so unprofessional. You kill your car more than race it. It's first turn was reminiscent of the first hairpin turn at turn 1 at Grand Valley.

In any event, I still liked to mod out the 3000GT (called the GTO in the game) and use this street car against the competition. What was cooler was that for a hard-tuned car (no racing modification), I bought a second 3000GT, and all of my parts carried over.

When you can clear a lap at the High Speed Ring in under or just over 1 minute, you know you had a terrifyingly fast car.

I remember the first time I went under a minute on High Speed Ring in a Viper, that was awesome! Yes, the GTO was bad, and the FTO LM too.

YOU GUYS!!!

You don't mean the High Speed Ring, you mean the Test Track.

I'm sure I did a 77 second lap of the high speed ring in the Viper GTS-R, or the Cerebra LM.

That was bloody ages go though.

Yes, a 77 second lap would be slow.

Lap times at High Speed Ring tend to be well under a minute for cars with a reasonable amount of power. It's the Test Track where a sub-minute time might be considered somewhat remarkable.

Oops, I meant about 57 seconds.
I'm sure you could do the test course in around a min if you had a full tuned GT0, or skyline setup for maximum speed.

Gee, it almost makes me want to drag the old game out.

Another GT moment I'd like to add is how much fun it was to race Japan vs. America, America vs. Britain, and Britain vs. Japan. I mean, it just seemed cool that you could tune your car and then pit that car from either country and battle against others in a fight for pride and honor. You know, it is like a competitive college football game. A team plays for pride against their rival team (like Ohio State vs. Michigan), and when you could race like this, it is pretty fun. GT1 proved how racing games can be fun, while having professionalism intact.

Here are some notes I'd like to make.

Congratulations to the Honda Del Sol LM for winning the "car that's a son of a gun to drive (in a negative way)" award.

The Special Stage Route 11 gets the nod for the "most challenging while being wholly realistic" award.

The GTO/3000GT with the "best car to max out HP with and do 240 with great tuning" award.

Grand Valley Speedway for the "most professional race track" award.

And as a non-GT award, HyundaiRacer gets the nod for the "hottest looking avatar." Nothing like Anime...

Anyhow, moderate on! (^_^) Dear me...

:D Gee, Thanks! It's not everyday that you get an award for anything, even if it is for an avatar...

R11 is the race I hate the most, I just can't stand it, too damn long and too many damn corners... I just finished the R11 endurance race on GT3 a few days ago, and it sucked! It took me three days to finish it (I put it on pause and go take a shower, then play, then go to work, etc...) I am glad we didn't have any power failures, those happen quite often here...

I liked the Del Sol LM Edition, I thought it was awesome to drive it...

Heh I remember when I first played sim mode with an FC RX-7 as a starter car (red 'un), then in the first championship I won a Mazda Demio A-Spec... I thought it was because I raced in a Mazda that I won a Mazda as some sort of sponsorship thing

Pity that wasn't the case hehe :D

I can't remember what I started with. It may have been a Prelude. (At the urging of my Honda-loving friend)

The main thing that stands out to me is how little I knew about JDM cars back then. I remember seeing the names "Silvia", "Levin", and "Skyline" and having no idea what those cars were or if they were any good. I remember winning an S13 and selling it without even driving it, thinking it was some piece of crap.

Hello everyone!

Well, i figured it's the right thread to post my first post at GTP forums.

Anyway, I remember that at first GT was a way too hard for me (i was kind an NFS like guy). When i first got into that old Corvette ant tried it on the High Speed Ring track, i couldn't help spining the car. However after a while it just hit me, and ever since then i hardly play any other PSX/PS2 game.

I think that my first car in GT mode was Honda Prelude, i'm glad it's coming back in GT4 !

GT was my third game behind Hotwheels Turbo Racing and NFS 3 :hot pursuit. I remember sucking so bad in a...Supra in arcade, I think. It's so fuzzy, being over 6 years ago. I remember thnking," what the hell is a skyline?!" Man-o-man, Japan did not even exist to me back then. So, then that Christmas I got GT2, bought my first car, a warmed-over '91 Skyline GTS-t Type M. Then the '69 Vette. And the rest, as they say, is history.:sly::)

Grand Valley in any form is a great race track to run any car round. As a noob you don't realise what a great track it is, however if you do GV300 then you soon learn how good it feels to let your car reach its maximum speed down the straight and into that first corner.

crosstrainer
autumn ring mini with any stock car... such a frustrating race (when you're a n00b) but a fun fun fun race once you're better behind the wheel :)

Yeah, Autumn Mini was my very first race in a black 1988 Nissan Silvia Q. I didn't do so bad in it..probly hit grass once or twice, but I managed to win. But I remember doing the reversed version of the track in a Viper in the Normal race. That track is fun, man...you have to drift to survive in such a high-powered car!

I remember my mate was doing the Normal car race and was struggling with Autumn Mini, the first race in the series. I tried with a TVR Cerbera and although I was sliding all over the place managed to place well, 2nd or 3rd can't remember which. I was racing against the dreaded NSX which always rules out a 1st place finnish.

You ever tried the Griffith? Oh my lord, it's like driving on soap. Are TVRs popular in England BTW? I've never seen a real one here in america.

awwww GT1, how great it was!

Its a friend of mine who introduced me to the game, he had the Viper GTS at that time, god it was pure ownage! Never had so much fun playing a car game :)

One thing i loved about GT1 was the 'Race Modification' option :)

I've tried it on different races so yes I know what you mean. Great fun though if you don't mind not winning. They are popular yes, but they don't make that many, I think they are even hand made so they can't mass produce. I'm not sure that they are avaulable in the States which probably explains why you have never seen any. If you watch Le Mans you might see them in the background as the LMP's rush past, sometimes the TV director in England follows one for a while which is nice but it is a rare treat for us TVR lovers.

One day I would like to own and drive a Cerbera, the only car that Clarkson's scared off.

The Toyota since it is the fastest car in that game (to me, maxed out at 267mph)

I'm not sure about that; that was my brother's car of choice, and I always beat the piss out of him with my R33 Skyline V-Spec, even on the test ring. Maybe he just never messed with the gear ratios.
