International Street Car Challenge
Created in cooperation by Azuremen and TankSpanker

Week 2: Fruit Pile
We’ll be running all 3 classes around Apricot Hill this week, as well as the new challenge class. It will be conducted in typical hot lap fashion – fastest lap wins, 2 tires must remain on tarmac or curb at all times.

Class definitions will remain the same as last week, we’re still hoping more competitiveness will emerge naturally as more car/tuning combinations are (hopefully) discovered. If it does not after this week steps such as offering larger/smaller budgets for particular cars, or limiting the PWR of certain cars may become necessary. We’re relying on some data collection from the new challenge class to aid in our decision.

The existence of the STS class is also in question. It seemed under utilized last week, and if interest in it is not expressed (by completing the poll at the top of this post), we will cut it from the running order to reduce the amount of concurrent ‘stuff’ that is taking place. It is by far the most difficult class for us to balance since the range of performance at that level is so varied – and the expense to achieve that level is just as varied. We also find that it doesn’t necessarily fit the description of this ‘Street Car Challenge,’ emphasis on the word street.

Enough on that,

The Classes:
You may run in any one, two, three, or all four of the following classes.
(Reminder, PWR means power to weight ratio, determined by weight/horsepower)

Street Touring B (STB)
Minimum PWR: 4.5
Budget: $70000

Street Touring A (STA)
Minimum PWR: 3.0
Budget: $100000

Street Touring Special (STS)
Minimum PWR: 2.0
Budget: $130000

Street Touring Challenge (STC) *NEW*
This class was devised midway through last weeks running as a means of both offering a slightly more confined setting for competition, as well as a method of comparing driving and tuning abilities on a common platform. We hope if becomes popular. Its budget restrictions will generally be a bit tighter than the classes mentioned above, such that it will place further emphasis on the part selection process.

This weeks challenge will put you in a roadster – a Miata to be exact. You have your choice of any of the four Miatas sold at the dealer screen. The catch is that you are only being allotted $50000 to fund your car and its modifications. No PWR restriction is being imposed. However, the regular restriction of sports tires still applies, and they are still provided free (think of it as having a gratuitous tire sponsor). Make the car as fast as you possibly can, quickest hot lap is the goal (no specific cut-off time for this week).

The skinny:

No PWR restriction
1 Miata
4 sports tires
$50000 (minus the car cost)

Individual Challenges:
This was brought up near the end of the week one thread. I have no problems with entrants issuing individual challenges within this thread for the other entrants to try and accomplish. Afterall, the name is International Street Car Challenge. All that I ask, is that before a challenge is posted, that it be cleared by either myself or Azuremen via pm or on AIM/MSN. This is simply as a precaution so that there doesn’t become too much going on at one single time in this thread. I would also ask that challenges not be made with the ‘top running’ cars within each class. The results for the individual challenges will not be tabulated on the leaderboard, but if there are enough entrants in any particular one, mention may be made to it in the results post. Once an individual challenge has been approved you may post it below, and I will add it to this post as well.

Rules:
Please remember to view and/or review all the rules in the Official GT3 ISCC Rules Thread .

We encourage T-time discussion, and discussion regarding car choices and tuning options will also be permitted. Full laptimes are not to be posted for the STC, STB, STA or STS. Laptime posting for individual challenges (should any be issued) is permitted.

Time Submission:
Time will be due at midnight Pacific Time, Friday, February 18th. This equates to 8:00am GMT, Saturday February 19th. Required will be your class(es) entered, vehicle, its PWR, and your T-times and laptime. You may pm these to either myself or Azuremen

As ever, we will be using Luxy's Leaderboard to track split times.

New Calculator:
Yes, I modified the calculator somewhat, to account for the addition of the STC. Also included is a laptime recorder – its not particularly useful, but took all of 5 seconds to add, so I figured ‘why not’. It can be found attached at the end of this post.

There, I hope I haven’t left anything out. Start turning those times.

in in STS, and woot i can run all my cars again, and ive got a few mx5's that ive won so i will most liekly enter all 4 classes :dopey:

This seems fun. I'll give it the old college try. Quick question though: when you say minimum PWR, lets say the 4.5 one, say I have a car that has a 3.4 PWR, would that be STB, or STA class?

Bring on the Miatas :trouble:

Miata MX-5 LS (the expensive one)

0'14.183
0'30.283
1'03.025

Still a bit more left in that T3. I slid just a bit in the left sweeper ... I've seen 1'02.8 on a dirty lap.

I'll keep my tuning on the down low for now ... :)

You've got an STA car 👍

2.000-2.999 = STS
3.000-4.499 = STA
4.500+ = STB

It would be a shame if STS would get deleted from the picture. I had a lot of fun last week on STS and Small_Fryz gave me plenty of competition, and it was a close call (if you would count the 1'20.740 dirty lap that I made). I liked running for the STS, I cannot lie :D

If it is decided that STS needs to be removed, maybe the STC will make up for it from time to time (?) - meaning once in a while we might get to run faster vehicles - hopefully ;)

Anyway... I am going to give this a run shortly.
Glad my Mazda RX-7 Type RS(J) is already broken in :D and ready to go in both classes (STA - STS)

I will try the STC as well, time permitting.
I bought a Max Drive - so, go check in Week 1 Results for my replays (shortly).

Caught Luxy - STC:

T1: 0'14.232
T2: 0'30.628
T3: 1'02.804

I have to say, though, that my Mazda is a little bit more power oriented than Luxy's :sly:
I am not going to reveal it, yet - but if you read what I just said correctly you should be able to figure out which one it is :D

that looks much like my clean time right now
I dont have my exact times in STC right now, I'm not near my PS2 at the moment

you can still go quicker, though
I saw 13.8xx in T1 this morning - then the phone rang and I got dirty when I unpaused it

Alright! Apricot Hill :yuck:!

I'll be running STA, maybe STB. Probaly won't go into STS though... I may try the Miata challenge. You'll be hearing more from me. Adios. ;)

times after one day:

STA:
car - not a Mazda, not American (and therefore not last week's car either)
T1 - 13.048
T2 - 25.500
T3 - 58.381

My new STA car feels perfect for this track and is going slightly faster than my fully broken in Z06 from the Laguna Challenge. So it should only get faster. I will still tweak my Z06 though, and see if i can pull anything more out of it.

STB:
car - MR2 GT-S, same as week 1
T1 - 14.169
T2 - 30.298
T3 - 1'02.180

Not much to say about STB really. Tried out a few different cars, R32 GTS-t, some silvias, FC, even a 300zx, but nothing was matching my MR2. I might change to the 300 later. It has the whole originality thing going for it, and I feel it has some definite potential here if i can get it setup properly.

STC:
car - a Miata
T1 - 14.072
T2 - 30.104
T3 - 1'01.891

STC should still get considerably quicker. I found a better method of tuning my chosen miata after running the time posted above. Basically, I found 8 extra HP and got a better flywheel, and even after doing so my total cost is 200 less than it was previously. I have seen T1's in the 13.8xx range, and T2's dipping into the mid 29s, but the phone has a rude tendency to ring at that point. :grumpy:

hopefully these all get quicker. I'm quite sure they will, everything still felt kind of slow right now - still have to finish breaking in my STA and STC

no plans to run a car in STS this week, it caused more frustration than joy for me last week. I may renege on this though if the times look doable.

edit: Leaderboard Updated

Regarding the poll, I'd love to run my Trueno SS in STS class. Or maybe you can make a separate class for prize cars? Because I know I'd like to try my Trueno SS or RX-8 in that class. It just sucks that I cant use some of my favorite cars.

Maybe you could allow prize cars to run STS with a budget of like $70,000 cr and keeping with the PWR? That would allow for some more diversity among cars, such as being able to use a Z concept, RX-8, or even the Vanquish, just to name a few.

Just a suggestion to add more variety and mix things up a bit.

I second that idea 👍
Man I miss my super-duper-kick-@ss cars :( :D

There should be a Class just for prize cars - that would definitely be nice. I was suggesting pretty much something similar in the Week 1 thread, but I think it got overlooked since there were so many posts about T times and such...

Hint for TankSpanker to go dig that up ;) - as my post was a way of continuing our little conversation about the 'Challenges'

Prize cars are not allowed to run in the classes as they are laid out because certain ones, such as your beloved Trueno SS, already has some aftermarket parts installed. Certainly some dont, such as the Nissan Z and RX-8, but the line had to be drawn somewhere. Prize cars not allowed.

I would, however, be open to allowing a individual challenge with prize cars if someone wants to start one. Just make sure to get the approval of either myself or Azuremen via PM or MSN/AIM before you go posting it . Have another read over the Individual Challenges section in the first post of this thread.

also, a new time :D :
had a brilliant idea and changed cars again for STA
car - still not a Mazda, still not American, and still not broken in
T1 - 13.192
T2 - 28.370
T3 - 57.947

hoping someone else posts some quick times for STA soon to let me know if any of these new cars I'm running are on the pace or not. But I might have to wait a bit, dont think many people are running yet. I think these couple of new cars I set up could be competitive, but I can't be absolutely positive at this point.

Here is what I got after 5 or 6 laps with the usual (Mazda RX-7 Type RS(J))

STA
T1: 0'13.155
T2: 0'28.444
T3: 0'57.874

Still lot of room for imrpovement...

STC - Some Mazda ;)
T1: 0'14.240
T2: 0'30.624
T3: 1'02.213

Same here... car not even fully broken in, yet...

thanks
looks like i wasnt going as fast as i thought
Actually, I did prove this for myself - went back out in my Z06 and shattered my times after some retuning. I really do not want to use it again though. I'm determined to find something else just as fast.

Same here... the 'Mazda' indiscussed tiranny is getting pretty old pretty fast...
I want to prove that the driver (ME) makes the difference - not the car ;)

So, off I go to find me a new vehicle :D

The Wizard.

welll guys, i will give some cars a run within next 24hr hopefully and post some times, all except STC is sitting in my garage ready to go.

EDIT!!
STA
12.968
27.992
57.430

seen T3's in the 56's but couldnt nail last sector, got last sector sorted out now, just a matter of time before im into the 56's. I can easily see .5 off my lap

EDIT 2!!!
STA
12.830
27.789
57.098

Bettered my lap by .6, i think there is another .2 in last sector, and maybe another .1 to take out of T3, if i can improve me lap by another .3 i will be very happy.

I'll keep my tuning on the down low for now ... :)

Changed my setup a bit, and easily ran a 1'02.5 ... then I read TheWizard and TankSpankers splits and realized I must not have the right car (I put in some effort to get those times, and you two blew them right out of the water straight away).

So I poked around, and figured out what I was doing wrong ... ran 3 laps in my new ride, badly set up, and got a 1'01.8 T3, and beat my best time by 1.250.

Like I said before, bring on the Miatas :trouble: ;)

EDIT:

Ran some more laps, and wow was I driving the wrong car before :dunce:

13.6
28.8
59.1

The last sector was a little slow, but not too bad. The rest of the lap was pretty much spot on.

Yeah, there is some Miata that when tuned comes with a lot more animals under the hood :D
Looks like you found her, Luxy 👍

No way? So am I using the wrong one as well? :scared:
Mine only has 320+ hamsters :( + a donkey...
And it's almost halfway broken in...

I hope you are kidding - wait a minute...
You almost got me here :D

I just bought every Mazda Miata avaiable at the Dealer, FULLY tuned each one of them in the engine department, and they all go in the neighborhood of 300+ donkeys :D

Quit scaring people, TankSpanker - it is not a nice thing to do ;)

EDIT: I figured it out: 1 HP = 2 MP (Monkey Power) - now, who's good at math?! :sly:

No, not just yet - at least not for me... I only did 10 laps at the most in my Miata, and that was enough to get me those times... I know I can find some more extra seconds here and there :sly:

I just want to make sure, though - We are talking about STC Class, right? The one were you are allotted only 50,000 credits for all the mods AND the car, right?

I mean, not in this ^ particular post of yours, but the previous ones...

I was chatting with Small_Fryz this morning, and realized that no-one else is using the same setup I am for STC. I won't give it all away, but I'll just say that my Miata has 350+ hampsters, and it's within the budget.

ya, thats certainly not how i had mine
i had one with around 275 emu's, and one at 320 or so

maybe its time for another retune - this will be the 5th or 6th

anyways
after the mandatory valentines day break imposed by my GF, i'm prepared to start running again
