What do you think about the settings?

They don't make any mention of Transmission, Driving Aids or Tyres.
I assume that we can do what we want with these.

http://www.gt4ireland.com/
This site says across the top of the page:
Today's top 16 average time 7:23.353

I just had a quick go at this yesterday and I only managed a 7:42. Very poor.

i think that we are allowed to do whatever we want with those settings.

i had a go yesterday as well and did 7.54. but it was all careful driving 'cos my total practice on the ring is less than 10 laps, so it is fair to say i don't know this track at all. im not going to try anymore, i just cant hack this track :(. maybe if i had more time to practice.
the ring is just not for me. takes too long and i have absolutely no experience on it.

apart form settings, they dont mention staying on track at all times, and the way they are going to verify times most probably can't tell them if you stayed on track or not.

"The stig" is the test-driver for the BBC program "Top Gear". The first "Stig" died when filming for the program in 2003, there is a new "Stig" now.

http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/stig_condolence/01/

I believe, that the3rd stig is allready racing for TOP GEAR.
Indeed one STIG died(not during shooting TOP GEAR), what happened with the other one am not sure yet, couldnt find it with google so fast. Have to look into it further.

Yes, I think we can do whatever we want with the settings.
And as long as you've got a recorded time, I think you can take the track anyway you can.

I managed a 31.981 last night and I can see lots of room for improvement, but it is such a demanding track! I've still got to drop 10 more seconds. That'll be tough.
All I can do is try :)

DemonSeed, don't give up yet, you've still got a few days to go.
That crazy Nurburgring Nordschleif is a very difficult and long track. 10 laps practice obviously isn't enough, but sure you can get 10 laps done in not much more than an hour. To get further in the GT game you'll have to get more practice at that track anyway, why not get that practice now? There are a few days left and what have you got to lose? Nothing. And what can you win? A 55k car.

Thanks for support, I might try again of course. It's just i don't really have patience :). i am quite far into the game [over 70%] but every time i have to race the ring, b-spec it is. so i dont have enough track time to know how to drive on it.

it is not as much difficult, as long. i dont mind the track setup, the length of the lap is killing me :). anyways, i shall try again tonite. that if i can stop myself from doing other tracks in other cars :)

good luck to you neilx

There is a similar competition in Italy but the rules are different.

You have to go to Nissan showrooms across Italy on specific days and race in LAN games against other people. The circuit for the preliminary events is Midfield. The top 10 from the country then later meet up in Rome and will time trail on El Capitan, Grand Canyon and Citta di Aria. This is to come up with the starting grid for the big final, 2 laps at Laguna Seca.

They really picked two of the worst tracks for me (Canyon and Capitan), so I stand no chance. In the rules it says you're able to pick the car you want but it doesn't dwell into details.

The final is to be held on may 18th and the top prize is also a Nissan 350Z.

there are competitions like that all over europe i suppose, as after winning here you are supposed to go to european finals. which means, there has to be some competition in most of european countries.

i'd love to live in italy. i own midfield :)

Midfield? I always thought that was Japanese.

Midfield? I always thought that was Japanese.

Err, no, as far as I know it's a fictional track, it is just being used for the competition that takes place in Italy...

Yes, a fictional track in Japan, but used for your Italian competition.
I was confused :)

I'm from Ireland and I had given it a go but talking to mates of mine who have Logitech Driving Force Pro wheels, I couldn't get to within an ass' roar of their times so I've just left it. I was down to a 7m35 lap at my last check but I'm having much more fun progressing at my own pace in the game.

So if you managed a 7:35 but weren't within an ass' roar of their times, what times were they getting?
And have they entered that competition?

For those who are in the US around the SoCal Area (Pomona/Walnut). We plan on hosting our own tournament for GT4. Rules are still being thought out, but we plan on having it in about a month. I'll post more info soon. It seems as if there's going to be a 3-5 buck fee to enter, and winner takes most of the pot, with the second place getting a smaller percentage. But we'll see how this goes.

just post it as your own thread, you will have much more people replying. :)

I tried posting, but it takes a while for the moderator to actually let it go through. :)

Just discovered this. Crap! Paddy eile anseo, by the way...
I'm at work now til 7am, home by 7.30 so that gives me about 40.5 hrs before the deadline to practice...
7.22.831 is todays average Top 16 time...
Does this lap have to be clean? or can I use all the tricks I can think of to get around the 'Ring?
[edit] sorry, that's what I get for not reading all the thread...
Which I'd checked this out earlier...

Re: PS2 and GT4 saturatiuon in Ireland:
Everyone has this game! for example,
I share an apartment with one other person, and we both have this game!
Over half the people in my office have it, and there are a few guys at the garage where he works has it. My brother has it, my sister wants it, and all their freinds.
I reckon that since no -one wants to go to the pub anymore, everyone's at home in front of the PS2...

sorry if that made no sense. it's 4:40 in the morning, and night shift can do funny things to your brain!

Re: bad form, I wouldn't worry too much there's bound to be a UK version of this soon, no doubt. It's just cos ( and I quote)

18. The promoter is Sony Computer Entertainment, Segrave House, 20 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2.

I didnt waste much time with this since theres no point being in the US, but I just tried once and after running a third of a lap and getting a feel for the car, a started over, ran one lap, and quit with a time of 7'26.5xx

This makes me mad that I cant enter. It was a pretty good lap, and it'd be hard to shave another 4 seconds off... but the course is so long, so I figure I could do it somehow!

But theres no point in dwelling on it I guess. Someone better represent GTplanet! 👍

if anyone wants me to do a lap, cos i can do a 7'17.xxx no probs, then i'll upload my game data, and then you can make out that u did it. what do u think?

logically:
apart from the verification method they use about which we dont know a thing [i mean, what kind of information is stored in this code?] , if you make it in the first 16 , you have to go and race against those other 15 people. so using your lap time could pass, but then, humiliation would follow if whoever was using your time, wouldnt be able to show the skill in the battle against other 15 people.:)

morally:
cheating is baaaad, very baad. and kills personal satisfaction:)

p.s. thats a clean lap or you cutting it wherever you can?

it was just a suggestion, and i realise now that ur right, ur gonna get embarresed big time against the other 15 people.

The lap i did 3 weeks ago (7'16.0xx), i did not go off the track at all, but theres really only three places where u can gain an advantage by cutting corners, the shickane sectin in T1, the 2nd shickane section just before T3, and the last shickane section near the end.

Today's top 16 average time: 7:20.020

I managed a 7:29 last night. Still not good enough :(

just given the competion my last go. i just dont have the skill to get around the track faster than 7:21'***. hollo 1 i'd love to see your 7:16.*** my god thats fast good luck everyone who can enter

I've got to figure out how to get ludacrisly fast times. I'm fast compared to a computer and most people in my area but you guys can undercut me by more than four seconds! Yea, on a good day... Are you guys crazy?

far from crazy mate, far from crazy

just send your best time. 7.21 should be enough, 7.20 is an average of 16 times, you might have good enough time to qualify.

i can send u an x-port replay if u'd like, its still on my memory card for some reason :dopey: ta ta

Yes, I'd like to see an x-port reply of a 7:16, thanks.

I never did enter that competition. I only had a few hours practice during the week and wasn't able to have another go on Friday or Saturday. The best I'd managed was a 7:29 and I don't think that was good enough.

Got the call from Sony today. I made it into the top 16. Wohooooooo
Just to let u guys know, the top 16 times ranged from 7:06.*** to 7:16.00*

Personally, i ran a 7:14.5**
Pretty chuffed to be honest, wasn't expecting it.

The top 16 are going head to head in knockout rounds of the Nurburgring in the 350Z.

Don't really fancy me chances, but at least ill walk away with some free gear.
/me hopes i get a Logitech steering wheel!!!

How on earth is 7:06 possible with that car????? I managed 7:22 and made no mistakes except a little caution in the tightest bends. Could U do 7:06 with cutting grass and likewise? Wouldn't that make the cheater a loser in the finals?
btw: I'm not eligible sice I'm not from Ireland. And I could be a crappy driver.....

7'06 is NOT possible if u drove it clean like i did, i couls see how you could make a few seconds if u cut corners, but 10 secs, geeez.

good luck GAIDEN, congratulations on making it in the top sixteen, in ur 7'14.5 lap u did, did u cut corners?

Lets just say, hypothetically, that you could do ANYTHING to help you go faster, i.e. cut corners/surf barriers etc., just how fast could you guys go? Just to see if anyone could get their time down to 7:06. Maybe you guys could help me out and post anything that picks you up time, like, say, ridin the barrier at the first carousell.
