I heard that gt4 was an extremly expensive game to make, but why exactly? Why did it cost more than a game like forza or dtm? I know GT4 has more cars than those games but still, that can't be the only reason.

Trips to tracks all over the world (Le Mans, Nurburgring, Fuji,......) + inviting people to have their car photographed and tested + all people working on the coding and testing have to be payed + marketing + making the discs and shipping them + ......

All that added to the the shops who want to have some profit on selling GT4.

Dude. No game is anywhere near as comprehensive as GT4. You can pretty much fine tune most every aspect of every car - and from what I hear, GT4 has well over 800. Polyphony Digital spends years on these projects, and they pool a lot of resources. To make sure the game is accurate, they actually purchase the vehicles they program into the game, in most cases. This way, they have unlimited access to settings, sounds, and the feel the car has when driving it. Take into account that Ky himself knows his way around the track, and the kind of connections he has - still, it's one hell of a project, and it takes a huge effort on the part of everyone involved.

did you ever watch any of the making of the game things in GT4, they went through some extensive research and tests just to get the cars in and to make them drive right. They made a steering wheel for the game. The DVD they use is bigger than normal hence more info, more expenive disk costs. There is probably a ton more, but it shows in game quality.

car mfg lisences
track lisences
paychecks for an additional x-years due to delays
getting LM cars and what not modelled (unlike standard cars, you can't really post to a supra enthusiast group or what not to get people to come out for free)
etc....

Yep, everything you've all mentioned is exactly right.

Mainly, it's the level of detail that's put into the GT series. It's easy to put a car into the game, make it handle just a bit better then another or just a bit faster. But PD doesn't take the easy way out. Hence, all the actual track time, etc..

Your saying they purchased 800+ cars to make gt4! ''WOW''

Not all. But Ky has his own garage, and I've heard rumor (rumor, again) that there are certain LM editions that have been released to eBay motors or other auctions following the discontinuation of the vehicle research.

Some vehicles are also "borrowed" or "rented" from the manufacturer, themselves.

I did a little research for a presentation of the field of gaming when I was in high school, and GT2 was my subject. For the record, I got an A-.

Because Forza crashed live yesterday at the CES 2005, and I hope GT4 won't crash like that ;)

LOL, seriously? That's a trip! That's the second time that's happened to microsoft. Back in 1998 it did that when Bill Gates tried to hook up a scanner to windows 98 and he got the "blue screen of death" Man that was funny!

BTW, let's NOT turn this into another GT4 vs Forza thread. Thanks :)

Well unfinished software does have a tendacy to be abit more unstable lol. Quite funny though, computers ALLWAYS go wrong when you want em to work.

not necessarily true
they send e-mails to admins of various car enthusiast boards (supras, wrx's, etc) and choose a few cars from the pool to model off of. they don't get paid. i actually recieved the e-mail from Supra Owner's Club Japan about 1.5 years ago asking for one of each model that's close to stock as possible with little to no body damage.

the deal was, you got to drive around the track they were doing the modeling and such at, for free...no other bonuses...

I haven't seen a price for the US version, but I assume it will be what $60-70USD? What is a standard videogame (I never have bought one)...$50'ish. $10-20USD bucks...big deal. I just spent ovr $300USD to get a japanese copy and a japanese PS2.

50$ is the standard for new PS2 games. Though NFS:U2 was 55$

Edit: Sorry, don't know how I got it on the wrong thread. Thanks Kensei

Actually, this version should be about 40K USD or a bit less in America. I believe it's the big anniversary version of the Z. I guess they just decided to make this one dedicated to GT4. Still a cool idea. :)

40k for Gt4! Ok that is a little much!

Wrong thread friend...hahaha :)

"Most cases" was an incorrect choice of words. "Certain cases" would have been more acceptable. My bad. ^_^;

Yeah! How did I do that!?!? Thanks bud.

EBGames are selling for 99 Aus dollars. Usualt PS2 release price for most major games. If it's true that it should/will be more, I'll go pre-order now cause their policy is any change in game price doesn't change for pre-ordered customers.

Because it is worth it. Demand and supply, its as easy as that.

Oh yeah and it cost a lot of money to make.

Did anyone mention to sponsor the 24h of lemans and a racing team at leas two years in a row?
That’s a lot of cash….
