meh - GT4 they drive right through you and FM they wait patiently behind you. One day someone will figure out how to code AI to AVOID you and yet be aggressive and pass you if you are going slow - TOCA did a decent job of this, but you could still park and hold up the entire group and yet get slammed back and forth and into walls. I guess atleast FM and GT4 provide consistency!

They already did ; Grand Prix Legends. A 7 (?) year old game. Best AI ever. It's amazing. :)

The Ai in Gt4 is pretty good, what do you!, in real world if you stop at a idiot place or slow down at an high speed corner you will also hae the entire field in your rear wing, even in Formula 1 there not that robotic(even not Schumi) to avoid such things, cause the car will go spinning, so you choose the "to slam in the back off the other" option and hope to avoid a crash, you don't turn the wheel heavily cause then you will have an certain crash. So Gt4 ai is very good, Forza is real sucky, Forza things you won't see in real life.

I wish I could get my hands on it - my laptop might even be capable of running that.

well, the only thing wrong with your statement is that you will apply the brakes if you are given the chance (reaction time) because it's not only their car you are destroying, it's your own as well. GT4 has no damage, and more than that the AI doesn't care if it slams into you because it is a mindless drone. I'm not saying FM is better or worse (and I don't want to get into that discussion - respecting egghead's wishes) I am just saying neither one have gotten it right from what I have seen.

Well ; that's what i wanted to show but failed ; you can stop everywhere on the track, even after a slow corner ; they alwasy bump into you.

Believe me ; the AI sucks. They won't drive always into you (strange :S) but it really is bad. Very bad. That is just the problem with all race games the last couple of years. DTM has it's good moments but it's not good. It just has "it's" moments.

Good ai : GPL. Bad ai : All other race games.

Well it´s just a demo,so you cant really say that the AI sucks(Not every time they wait for you, other times they avoid you!and the AI in Forza is miles ahead of GT4!

In the first post i say it's the demo and i hope it will change. Again ; plz keep the flaming out of here (not saying that you flame ;) ). Those vids are just to show the difference.

If your on somebodys tail its to late to brake and the only option is to swing away heavily and crash. On GT4 if there quite far away they don't crash into you, cause they apply barkes.

Lol miles ahead?? ahahah, they think you are an pace car ahaahahah, and in GT4 ithey only have the emergency situations they crash . so please read this thread and watch the vids.

Yep neither one has got it right. From the vid the ai seemed like it had ample time to slow down,That was one of the funniest thing i saw now the car actually turned into the car deliberately if then the car started sliding sideways then the other car seemed to just power through it pushing it even more off the road and kept on going. In Forza demo i dont think i ever had a car just power through me like i wasnt there. I mean what would u have a car that will run right through u knock u off the track or car that sits behind u and wait for u to drive.

Pretty good as long as they dont bounce me off the road from a little to medium hit from the side.

Well i dont have to see videos when a have the demo!the AI in all the GTgames have sucked, they are a little better in GT4P but not much(It´s the same story)the race starts 10seconds later you take the lead, then you never see them again(It becoms very boring)but in Forza you have to actually race against the AI!I love both GT and Forza but the AI in Forza is so much funnyer to race against(Because their is someone to race against)and again the V8enginesounds in GT4 sounds just like householdmachines!(Very sad) :indiff:

Didn´t mean to sound hostile "Egghead"(Sorry) :)

Sorry for my crappy English!

Your English is good. I can understand it perfect. :)

Yes, i have to agree ; Forza demo Ai offers me alot of more challenge then the AI in GT4. It's still easy but it can be a challenge.

But the fact remains that they both aren't good. And the question remains ; why can't devs get it right? In NFSU2 you want crappy bumpy ai (but not cheating like they did in NFSU1) but in a realistic looking racegame you want good AI.

Yeah!haha :dopey: the NFSU AI they can bump yo(so you crash into the wall)but when you bump them(You again crash into the wall)It´s a little disturbing that there are som many cargames with crappy AI,i mean i would rather have challenging AI than 700 cars in a game(Not that i dont love different cars)but great AI is so much better! But now when both PS3 & Xbox2 are on the way maybe that´s something that is gonna change(I hope) 👍

Love the videos Egghead! And thanks for the spyker :D (Dutchy <-)

About the sound, I agree that Forza's sound is deeper and more ehh growly? More like it would sound like standing a few feet away from a 350hp 4.6 liter V8, but... if Im correct GT4 tries to duplicate the sound you hear while you are driving IN the car. And while driving in the car, you won't be able to hear that much of the muffler, simply because you're in the front of it. Im not at all saying GT4s sound is spott on, it's far from spott on. But go sit in a car with a vidcam or audio equipement and record your ride. It won't sound that spectacular at all.

When you're sitting in a car the sounds you should hear is the tranny, the wind, the engine revs and the turbo and/or blow-off valve, the tires on the road and a bit of the muffler. Now I know GT3 implemented all of this. Not very accurately, because imo the transmission sound was way to loud, same goes for the wind, but at least you could hear all the different sounds.

I haven't played Forza, so I can't base an opinion about that. Just remember that the stuff that looks or sounds the most beautiful, doesn't actually have the be the most realistic.

Guys, can we please knock off the double and tripple postings? if you want to quote 2 different people, copy and paste the text from below, and then paste it in with the "

text goes here [/quote"
username
(you need to clse that last bracket, but if I did it it would show up as a real quote)

Egghead
I wanted to do that but the problem with both games is that it doesn't sound good. In Forza it's too loud or to soft (except the 2nd bump cam.. but that's too low on the ground so that drives shi te). In GT4 it's always tooooooo soft, you can only hear the turbo for 99999.9% of the time. That's why i used the behind view.

Np. :)
and the sounds in the FM demo are unfinished some cars have diffrent sounds in diffrent views and some dont have diffrent sounds.

One more thing to add before I go to bed: nobody seems to have mentioned the fact that while forza has damage, it is far from realistic. Some of those walls you hit (egghead) would have required the jaws of life to extract you from the mangled wreckage, and a helecopter to transport you to the nearest lvl 3 trauma center. I hope this gets fixed for the release of forza as well. I don't own x-box, but I am always rooting for every game to be as good as it possibly can be even if I will never get to play it.

Only 50 mb of webspace and i promised a short LMP vid, so you have to wait till i have space again. Sorry. :)

I WILL wait    .

I watched VS videos without sound (no speakers in school) and GT4 graphics looked much better but that's only my opinion.

Exactly! In an arcade game, I'd expect damage like this for entertainment. But in a driving simulator which is supposed to be as real as possible, I want real damage. If you put your car into a wall, that's it, the race is over! And I rather have no damage at all than the damage seen in Forza.

But GT4 fails at a similar task: fuel! If you run out of fuel in GT4, the car doesn't stop! It only slows down to 80 km/h, so you can still reach the pits and refuel. That's just as unreal as the damage in Forza is. I mean I do unterstand the strategy, meaning you are being punished for running out of fuel with this speed limit. But I'd rather have the real deal, if you don't refuel your car will stop - game over.

Cheers,
the Interceptor

Yep and i want to see real drivers inside the cars and real rubber marks on the road. and real sound of tires losing grip on the road.and increasead grip from rubber being left on the road at certain placs.

Well if the inside sounds dont sound as good as the outside i think ill go with the outside sounds since theyre spectacular. yeah i notice gt4 4 has the wind sound prettty good though.

Great videos.
Forza is good, the tyres signs when you brake are cool.
But I'm not planning to buy a Xbox, I hate that console, so I'll wait for 03/09. That's all.

It depends what you mean with sound "good", do you mean it doesn't sound realistic enough, or maybe it's not loud enough etcc. It's like with the graphics, Forza's are more detailed, but less realistic. Same goes with the sound as far as I could tell from the movies. Since I will be driving from the inside of the car, I don't want to hear a loud low bass rumble. Im not saying I don't like the sound, Im saying it shouldn't be there.

Gt4 is just better, you can keep enjoying it cause of all the cars and tracks(NURBURGRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

While GPL is a great game (based on what I hear as I've not played it as of yet)
I would not compare PC games to console games because there's not a single console on the market today that can compete with a PC's computing power...

As for topic at hand, reviewing the pics that are on page 1 of this thread, I actually like the pic of Laguna Seca from FM, as it looks a bit more 'real'...based soley on the surrounding areas & not so much the car and/or track...yet GT4 is no slouch as well!

You forget that a game console only has to do games and DVD's, a pc has to do alot more.

GT4 has a cockpit view i didnt know that.As far as i saw u will drive all the cars from the outside . When i said sound good yes meaning realistic.Yes to me the engines sound sound more authentic. There were things in the forza engines sounds that u could not hear in the gt cars.but the Forza cars didnt have any audible tire and barley hearable wind sounds.

Second watch: Forza has SO bad AI and damages GT4 is simply better! And Forza is GT-series copy!
O really.
They state that the game is

absolutely amazing when it comes to depth, sense of speed,

graphics, and racing realism (except for one major flaw... read

on). However, they also say how incredibly lame and easy it is for

someone to win a race that their having problems with. First off,

they say that, of course, there is no damage so someone can hurl

themselves at another opponent with no side effects. Which can be

used to go around turns entirely too fast to be realistic, and

bumping off of opponents to stay on the track. It is also said

that the AI has seen very little improvement from GT3 to GT4.

"...the merely minor AI upgrade and Polyphony's complete failure

to fix the way Lunatic driving guarantees cheap wins. True (there

are some upgrades in AI), but they still don't come close to

taking advantage of opportunities off the racing line the way any

real driver would. Between that and the invulnerablility of your

car, cutting corners and "bounce" passing are failsafe, cheap-ass

paths to victory. It's an astounding lapse in realism for a series

that so highly prizes and touts its own authenticity." -PSM
