Gt4 pic art, wth

Well to tell you the truth, the cars look alot better to me. I remember in gt3, there where sharp corners in the wheel wells :| I dont see that in gt4p or the new gt4 build. I can't put my finger on it, but gt4 just looks way better than gt3 and gtc and yes, I have played gtc.

Well next time you play GTC, look at the cars a bit closer.

What makes me think gt4 kills gtc and gt3 in graphics is the track detail. When I see the replays, I'm like damn, look at the track. The tracks this time look as realistic as the cars, so everything is balanced and makes the game looks so much better :)

The track detail is better, as I've said many times before, but we can't accurately compare to GT3 or GTC until we see a track that appeared in either of thoes and then you can look at how the tracks looks better in GT4, but the graphics as a whole are not much better than GTC.

Sorry to interupt the bickering..(not really, but)....I figured I could ask a related, nOOby, question. What is the SCART cable and where can I get one? Seriously though, Thanx, carry on....

I have prologue, and these screenshots give a decent impression on what it looks like on my tv, ok?

You only get an accurate impression of the game when the snapshot is taken when the image isn't moving. The first picture is taken with the car standing still on the Fuji straight, with the brakes on. The second is in movement, but with the camera keeping the car steady in center. You can see that in the background, the alternate lines of the interlaced picture pull the graphics apart in two directions when capturing.

You don't see this happening on a normal TV because you can only see one set of lines at a time which makes the picture look steady and fluent on a normal TV, which after all only draws 30 full images per second, but makes it look like more by drawing 60 half images per second.

GT4 actually generates 60 full frames per second however, which you can only fully appreciate when you have a HD TV (Progressive Scan) and the game supports it. It is said that GT4 will in fact support progressive scan, and that would mean higher quality images would then be possible. If a capture card supports grabbing such images, a lot better captures can be achieved still.

Nevertheless there are capture cards which better deal with the alternative lines and can pull the image together to make them look better. A card like daan's does a pretty good job at this, I might get something like that again sometime. With the cheap cards, like I have now, it's a matter of timing and making sure you capture an image that doesn't move too much.

I think GT4 Prologue looks better than GT3 in many ways, although GT3 certainly doesn't look bad itself. But tracks like citta are just a work of art:

A scart cable is a cable that you can use to attach your PS2 to your TV, it looks pretty much the same as your standard PS2 cable, the difference it it sharpens up an image, not completely but it is noticable on most games, the cost about £10 and are available in most electronics stores like Dixons.

Arwin, neither of thoes pics are as high quality as the R5 one on page one.

thank you live4speed :)
No problem, and wecome to GTP if I haven't already done it.

Heres a question, Why doesn't the Lupo cup car have a roll cage?

Ok I'll put things in perspective and then I give up.

I personally think picture 4 looks best of all of them.

Again, live has owned himself. That gt4p is close to the new build of gt4. Ofc, arwin just has a basic capturing device while pd has the better equipment and that is gt4p, the new build has upgraded somewhat.

cobra and live, please don't turn this matter into a personal fued, as that degrades the quality of this discussion to one that will result in a locked topic. Try to keep behaving like adults and discuss with carefully worded arguments, not words like 'own'.

is that really possible? nah...

I think 4 looks the best, but it's not the highest quality shot, look hard at pic 3, in fact you'll probably notice better if you save both pics onto your computer and then enlarge them by equal percentages, then see which looks best. Not tried yet but I'm about to.

Edited post ignore

Just tried them both enlarged and there are loads more jaggies on pic 4 than 3. And for the sake of the discussionno more flaming at all.

Ok, I'll drop the stupid stuff. The pics arwin posted are close to the new build. Arwin did make some good captures but his equipment isn't as good as pd's to showcase the game. And dont forget, the new build is a small upgrade from gt4p, notice the blur, that adds to the good looks.

Do what I've just told you to do, and you''ll see the difference in pics.

That's the mistake, gaming sites like gamespot make this mistake, but blowing pics that small up and showing them. PD has the equipment to make gt4 pics 680x440 and look like they should.

True, but do it to both thoes pics Arwin posted, they are the same size so if you blow them up the same ammount you'll see which is better quality.

Look, I just disagree with you on the pics being art, or promo pics. I have compared the vids and the pics, and things are close, very close but one prob, the vid is low-res.

Okay, we should leave it at that. For now at least.

We can't leave it at that, because code will come here and talk bs and I will argue with him and you will join in with t5.

I'm not going to repeat anything I've said, but if you, Code or T5 quote me I might make a comment, nothing more.

I'm with Live here. No more needs to be said. :D But I do want to add that the contrast of the hong kong picture is lower, so that will look less jaggy when (re-)scaled backwards. ;) But the point was if this particular shot could be an in game shot, and I think I've made my point there. There are, however, other shots that I think are concept art.

Concept art is always created - they design tracks a lot more complicated and detailed and then scale it down to what the PS2 can actually handle.
