There will never be motorbikes in Gran Turismo, the name Gran Turismo has everything to do with cars but not bikes, KY is after as much realism as possible and mixing cars and bikes will be heading the wrong way down the realism road and finally adding bikes would require two physics engines and that would double the work and the time it takes to make the game.

please dont go back into the bike discussion. CARS, CARS, AND MORE CARS is what its about here:banghead: please use the search facility provided integra

There have been a number of posts about the game being pushed back enough already. Of course this ignores the fact that November is the -first- official release date, therefore, the game has =never= slipped. So I still say that November can in fact be pushed back at least once, if not twice.

The game is basically finished at this point. The game itself, that is. What is causing the delays, to my knowledge, is problems with internet/online play. Apparantly there are some differences in how this is implemented in Japan, vs Euro, vs US.

I can not reveal my sources or else I would have to kill him.

Ferrari and Porsche are not holding up the game release. If they become available, they will be available via download. SCEA is not that worried about players without network, and one of the reasons for this is that the new price point of $149. includes the console -and- a network adapter. Besides, if you don't have network access, you can still buy a car from someone elses memory card.

Do not expect GT5 (omg, are we gonna start waiting for that already?) or PS3 for a very long time.

If you did not see the 2004 E3 presentation, I can tell you there was a lot of talk about 10-year product lifespan, and the fact that GT3 is still selling is not lost on SCEA either. They have the PSP to deal with starting January anyway, so like I said, don't hold your breath. If I had to guess at it, I would say that it is still not decided whether to go ahead with GT5 or wait until PS3 is far enough along to start coding games for it.

The only way GT5 will be out within the next 5 years is if the PSP tanks so bad that they are willing to forfiet 50% of expected GT4 sales -and- 50% of GT5 sales. I could explain some more of the economics but I can see that your eyes are beginning to glaze over already.

Interesting. All that wont be a problem assuming that GT4 isn't a gigantic letdown...

Besides... The sheer angst of every upset GT fan will cause the Earth to turn into a gigantic pork pie if that happens. So it's win-win.

umm....

WHAT is a pork-pie?

Wot the bloody  is that then?

If GT4 is a gigantic let-down, then it will only serve as a unifying force among the GT3/GT4 fan base, henceforth to be known as the "Rebel Alliance".

Darth KAZ and the Evil SCEA Empire will find itself embroiled in anarchy throughout the systems. The imperial stormprogrammers will certainly have their hands full as well.

May the forcefeedback be with you.

Interesting...

Cough syrup anyone?

You sound like you're in the know, I'd love to know where the 10 year product lifetime comment comes from. Whilst people will actually buy products for that long that's dwindling really fast, technology is releasing something new every 6 months if not sooner a lot of the time. You really think people will be buying PS2's in 2011?

*Pats beefcake sympathetically*

You need a friend. A chocolate friend. Mr Candy-bar doesn't judge you. Mr Candy-bar likes you just the way you are. Look at how yummy and sweet he is. There you go.

*Pats beefcake again*

Does anyone know when they stopped production of the original Playstation?

I think you guessed most of that, and /i dissagree with some of it, and I don't beleive you have any sources that will give you more info than journalists.

fyi, I am not one of those noobs that post release dates and car lists, as if they are based in reality.

I did post an "official" car list once that listed all the cars in GT4, that list is:

"There will be many different years and cars in GT4"

This is a comment strait from inside, and that is all he would say, despite being asked the question a number of different ways, in a futile attempt to trip him up. For the skeptics, that is fine that you don't believe me, nevertheless, that is the word from a real GT4 programmer.

So live4speed is partially correct. I do have a source, just not really useful so far. I don't know this person well, he's not really a 'friend' of mine or anything like that, although if I had known about this guy only few months earlier, I would prolly have a beta right now, alas. too late. they are all gone. Again, I don't care if you believe me or not, lets move on.

Eagle: As for the 10 year product lifespan, you do not have to take my word for it. This is strait from the keynote address delived by SCEA at E3 2004, and it is public and official information. It is also available for d/l if you know where to look.

As for the guessing about downloading new cars, I refer again to E3. There was a lot of talk about 'mini-transactions'. Sony is aware that people want to play online, and they are aware that we don't want to pay for it. They are also aware that people ARE willing to pay for individual items that they want.

So, therefore while it is true that I am guessing somewhat, it isn't really that much of a guess.

My economic postulations are the same as any others. They are always postulation, e.g., predicated on a presumption of how you think someone else will decide something. How often do economic theorists agree? not very often. So my guesses are as good as anyone elses, since no-one really agrees anyway.

I'll take that candybar now, and more of the cough syrup if theres any left.

Ok but you guessed the fact that Ferrari will be available. Also the games not quite finnished, KY is still adding cars, he said he will keep doing so until as close to reease as possible. But I'm guessing you were referring more to the game structure, graphics and engine ect.

As for the 10 year hardware lifecycle, this is indeed true.

However it does not mean the PS3 will be dealyed for another 4-5 years.

The PSONE is still on sale and selling well as a budget console in the West and as a major console in less developed, technologically wise, countries.

When PS3 is released in late 2006 the PS2 will take over the mantle of Sonys budget console.

With Xbox2 due to be shown publically during 2005 with a release date a short time later, Sony cannot be left behind.

Sony have said TV's including the Cell proccessor will be out late 2006. At the same time Sony have also said the PS3 will be the first Sony product to have the new Cell proccessor. All this points to a 2006 release date.

I still don't believe the hardware cycle thing. Why then would we have a 7 year gap followed by a 5 year gap? Technology is progressing far faster than that these days. The 10 year thing may apply to Sony and such products right now, but like I said, if we're still buying PS2's in 2011 I'm going to be pretty shocked. They're going to need to make the PS3 architecture either very impressive or very scalable to last 10 years, CELL might make it happen.

You miss the point.

The PS2 has only just been launched in some less technologically advanced countries, but is coming to the end of its lifespan as a major console in the US, Europe, Japan with declining sales.

However when the PS3 is launched in 2006, in the West, the PS2 will become a low priced, budget machine like the PSONE is at the moment. The PSONE is now being bought by youngsters and those who are new to gaming and do not want to shell out £100+ on a PS2 etc.

Unlike other console manufactuers Sony, with the Playstation brand, believe they can sell more than one Console at a time, to different markets.

Expect a mini PS2 to be launched around the PS3 launch.

I get what's being said about this 10 year cylcle. It's not going to be sold for 10 years in any one country but from the first country thats gets a PS2 to the end of production and supply for the last country that got them will be 10 years.

You could have a console on sale, in one country, for 10 years.

Just look at the repakaged PSONE. The console will just be sold at ever more competitive price levels until demand dries up.

There are millions upon millions of potential PS2 owners who have not yet bought a PS2 due to its price. When its being sold for £50 in a couple of years they may well pick one up, 5+ years after the original launch date.

You can see by the type of games being released for the PSONE now, they are very different to those released at the hight of the console.

sorry if I gave you the impression that I was suggesting that Ferrari will be added to GT4. I never meant that. Personally I don't think it will, I only meant that IF we were waiting for EA's agreement to expire, SC/PD isn't going to hold up GT4 to wait for it, because it can be added after the games release.

So I'm definitely not suggesting that Ferrari is going to be in the game, I was just using that for an example.

HOWEVER what would be cooler than Nurburgring with a

Enzo / Cien / McLaren / Speed 12 / Bugatti Veyron / 787B showdown?

Not much would be cooler exept if you replaced the Cien with a CLK-GTR. I get everything you were saying now so thanks for clearing that up.

ok back on topic, i heard today from electronic boutique that it will be released in september.. but as you know it could be held back... (i was getting myself another PS2 :D i missed it alot after i sold my last one)
