A fellow GTer from Houston was watching the Astros kick some ass on FX, and reported seeing the tail-end of a GT4 commercial during the break. Unfortunately, I was watching the 'Stros on Fox 26 (the local channel), so I didn't get to see it -- long story, but we get our cable through DirecTV and Dish Network, so it's very possible that they showed the CM on Fox 26, but DirecTV replaced it with their own ad.

So, essentially I have no info for you aside from the fact that there WAS a GT4 commercial on TV just moments ago -- did anyone else see anything?

i didnt see anything and all this is gonna do is piss off a bunch of people who need more info, including me.

Come back with a link to the video, or maybe some other astros fanboy saw it and tivo'ed it, doubtful but always hopeful.

still.

Nemo:

Nobody's allowed to get pissed off here. I'm just doing my duty to the community -- reporting the news as it happens. I've been doing it for years -- I registered at GranTurismo.com in December 1998 and was around even before that, so I'm approaching six years in the GT community. That should be long enough to establish some degree of credibility, right? Besides, it could be argued that the commercial's content isn't even all that important -- the fact that the game is being marketed on TV already is what's important.

If you want a TiVo videocapture, you're dreamin', buddy... but maybe someone here has a more detailed account of what it encompassed. As far as Mark knows, there wasn't a voiceover or music. All he caught was the very tail end... there was a full-color GT4 logo over a race scene. He describes the scene in the following AIM conversation:

mark: I think it was supposed to be this car kicking up dust
mark: like a rally car
HondaKid86: in-game?
mark: well
mark: it didn't look like it
mark: it was like a scene created with the engine

The commercial closed with "Live in your world, play in ours."

I have FX on right now. I don't want to watch the stupid astros or cardinals, but I'm wathcing the comercials. Notherg yet!

I bet the ratings of FX just skyrocketed! :p

Jedi, sorry if it seemed like that post was directed at you. You and Maxeva snuck up on me there while I was typing the reply ;)

I don't think anyone's going to be pissed off, actually... for every immature eight year old on GTP, there are several other seasoned, logical members of the GT community who simply live for the details in the GT saga.

[ot]HondaKid86: Dang nice seeing you here. :)[/ot]

Sure it wasnt a PS2 commersial?

I doubt very much it was a commercial soley for the game GT4. I bet it was a commercial for the new PS2, and it showed a list of up and coming games for it. I remember the commercials for GT3 started about two or three days before the release date. I don't think Sony would show TV ads for a game that isn't set to be released for anohter two full months.

From what I know, it closed with the GT4 logo, indicating that it was a GT4 commercial rather than a generic PS2 commercial.

Nice to see you too, Bazz... I remember you. :)

Bah. Beat me to it by two minutes.

Wasn't there a commercial that had GT4 in it when Sony dropped the price of the PS2?

Well, to be fair, I can't purport to have seen it, so I can't make a final judgement.

Mark did say that he caught about the last ten seconds, and assuming it was a 30 second spot, I doubt they'd allot such a high fraction of spot time to GT4 if it was an ad for the new PS2.

I could be wrong, though.

In any case, GT4 is on TV in some capacity. :P

i saw the tail end of it as well. it did look like some kind of rally car or maybe an old sports car. it did a 180 and stopped and kicked up dust, then the GT4 logo came up.

oh and i live in pearland, about 20 mins south of you HondaKid. lol i also drive a honda (99 prelude). thought that was a funny coincidence

/edit

oops, sorry about double post. i thought it had froze up so i hit post again

First off, nice to have Houston represented again. Houston Texans whipped Tennessee at their home while a scoreless game was ended by a three-run blast by Houston in the bottom of the 9th. Good job, H-Town!

I think I've seen that before, HondaKid. It was a PS2 commercial with brief flashes of PS2 games including GT4. One such commerical had the in-car view of the 350Z and then a Lancer at the Grand Canyon. Afterwards, the usual PS2 deal. If that's the case, this is "welcome to months ago," as some people would say. If that's not the case, then just like in the NFL, we may need further review.

To all who don't know, when you see HondaKid86 as the starter of a thread, it will be in your best interest to pay attention. Yes, he goes way back as the single most reliable and amazing fact finder in GT history. I remember way back when waiting for GT2 and checking the old GT site and HondaKid was the man to deliver the goods. And if he didn't let you know just now of a possible GT4 commercial being seen, then you might not tune in to the World Series tomorrow night and you might have missed it yourselves.

Thanks HondaKid, and keep it up!

Jedi, sorry if it seemed like that post was directed at you.

Not at all. :) I was just responding to the "don't nobody get angry" thing, is all. :) But now I see it was actually a response to Nemo's post about people possibly getting angry in the quest for new information (it's like a drug, you know.. we need a regular fix.. hehe). So in that case, just forget I said anything at all.. ;)

I'm not quite so "frantic" for information that I'd get antsy about something like this.. unlike some of the other "news" threads, this one contained no specific information without proof, simply a mention that a GT4 commercial was seen on television. Which I find interesting, but not anything to get frantic over.

Except for the mention made above by Solid Lifters... after all, it IS rather early to be showing commercials on TV for a game that's not due out for two more months.. They don't even show film trailers on TV that early. Which brings up the REMOTE POSSIBILITY that PD may indeed have a "surprise" for us fairly soon.

I assume I'm not the only one scouring the various gaming news sites to see if the commercial has been posted online anywhere, so I figure we'll all see it soon enough. With two months left to wait for the game, I can wait a couple days for possible new footage. :)

"Yes, he goes way back as the single most reliable and amazing fact finder in GT history."

Gee. :) If this talk doesn't cease, my head will be too big to fit through the exit door of this thread!

enphynity, if you'd like to get together for some GT sometime, shoot me a PM -- it's nice to see people from nearby.

John, does the commercial you have in mind end with the GT4 logo? Just curious.

Again, I didn't see the commercial for myself, but Mark is a reliable pillar of the GT community just as many of you are. We've talked backchannel for a couple of years now, and I've actually been lucky enough to buy him lunch on one occasion.

I saw ads in ALL kinds of magazines for it now. However oneline in the add surprised and confirmed something for me.

Glory is not granted lightly. Test your skills on up to 100 of the world's most elite tracks. Break in over 500 powerhouse cars spanning a century of automotive history. Face unforgiving spectators that react to your every move. Pass or be passed.

Seems we haven't scratched the surface of tracks.

Just a little over a month to go.

Just a little over a month to go.

I'm pretty sure you mean just a little over 2 months to go... if you're in Europe... (2 months and a day)

Or Just a little under 2 months to go if you're in US... (2 months - 4 days.)

Or a month and a half to go if you're in Japan... (1 month and 14 days.)

hondakid86:

let me clarify, I wasnt so much as pissed as discouraged by the lack of info, the title of the thread is quite a grabber and you just got my hopes up. Now that I'm settled, congrats on being here for 6 years and nice to meet a fellow 18 year old GTer

I wouldn't be surprised if it does go gold. It's the most-wanted game in the racing genre. Although it may not be huge to some people, what they don't realize is that it's the top of its line with those others.

IMO, too many people overlook racing. It's more than just going around in circles. :)

From GranTurismoX.net, where I mirrored this post, comes this response from KMatt in Arkansas:

mattyk
It was a GT4 ad.

I only saw the tailend of it, where it was much like the old GT3 ads, except this one obviously had a big GT4 logo, with a "coming [whenever it comes out]"

I just saw the commercial about 5 minutes ago. Its not too much of a commercial. The background is black with the GT logo and says "The Drive of Your Life". The background fades away and they show the back end of the car just the tires and it does a 180 and theres pieces of rubber and dust. Not as much as I expected. I really didn't watch it too closely, I didnt realize it was for GT4 until the very end. And btw it is a very short commercial, I don't even think its 30 seconds.

Just saw a GT4 add in the ALCS. Looked like a camaro going around a turn and spinning (real life, not game play). It was a quick 15 second add.

I looks like sony is going to spend a lot of money on this game if they are buying adds in big events. Some had to have tivoed it, just wasn’t me. Not that there is much to see.
