ozvaldini: Could a story mode be implemented to better the gaming experience?
Yamauchi-san: Of course that’s possible. On a daily basis, new ideas and future visions come to mind to include in future Gran Turismo titles. So, responding to your question, yes, we are thinking of new ways to ensure that users will have the most fun.

This prompts a question; what ideas would you have for a GT5 "Story Mode"?

I would have the driver go up the ranks, and he would have an age as well. SO he'd start out in something like go-karts and move up to faster and faster cars. The pinnacle of this could be the WEC or the F1 championship. Not that complicated but the simpler the better in my opinion.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed career mode + GT Academy?

Basically GT Academy finalist 'career' mode. Instead of liscenses, have some of the same driving challenges the Finalist will face. After winning (lol) go on to your choice of careers: NASCAR, Rally, etc.

I'd love a story mode, but less than I'd love a massive open world to freely drive around. If all those things could be integrated into one driving/racing experience it would be great, but not at the expense of the current formula, but rather in addition to.

Add a poll.

I for one think we need a story line as much as we need the wide selection of horns [/sarcasm].

I can see if we guided a driver through his career (like someone else mentioned, with go karts etc), it would make more sense. If they had a well planned out career, making us work from the ground up and actually have the licenses mean something, that would be huge.

As for a storyline, the game doesn't need it.

If theres gonna be a story mode, make GT Life a free roam area to cruise around, to find missions and stuff like that to progress the game.

Look at ChoroQ/Road Trip Adventure. That game had a story, but the best part it was open world to explore. :)

STAY AWAY FROM THE STORY MODE OR SOME ONE WILL DIE!
we don't want another motorstorm apocalypse now do we!

An amateur career that goes up the ranks. Whether it would be something from Rally to F1 and etc, I am all up for it. It would be nice if you start from amateur track races with limited budget for fixing up the car. Of course no street drag racing, but rather drag racing on a track to get more money in addition to circuit races. From that, you get an invitation from an Academy and they'll teach you based on your own personal strength and weaknesses. Then you go from there to start your career. Sounds a bit like GT Academy winners doesn't it? Since there has always been licenses, maybe they can incorporate it to the story mode as well. We need to get class licenses in order to compete and minimum of track hours/races. Maybe you can also do different type of racing simultaneously or retire from lets say NASCAR and journey into rallying, touring, F1, and so forth.

Even to go further, maybe we start from Kart racing if you choose to go that way for longer career with big rewards rather than an already adult character. To even go further than this, maybe there should be a test or somesort to pass in order to "force" players to actually know the rules of racing.

Anything that gives us something to do in GT5, with some new objective and challenges, would be great in my opinion; a "story" based set of events is one good idea, going from Kart, small cars, to LMP short enduros (1-2 hours) and F1 championship, maybe inspired by some GT academy events; I have even finished all events (including the seasonal) on a secondary account, meaning that the number of events is much too short in GT5 (or I simply play to much....)

To add to the good ideas that have already been proposed, I would like the ability to pick a crew cheif/engineer when starting your career story or whatever its called. There should be a large variety available at the start, each with a unique personality and voice.

Basically this guy will stay with you throughout your career unless you replace him. He'll be the guy that reads out your lap times or split times on the radio. He'll be the guy that warns you about cooking your tires or any damage. He'll let you know what the weather forecast says. And he'll offer advice on setting up the car. He can level up like a B-spec driver. Each will have strengths and weaknesses

To add more to story/career mode I would like to see money play a much bigger part. Money is huge in racing and it should be simulated in GT6. Paying for tires or damage to cars, etc etc. Engine rebuilds on racecars should happen far more often. You should be able to "total" cars so they are unusable and cannot be repaired. It would be cool to say you've raced a car so many miles without a major accident. Maybe even hiring a pit crew team that has a salary and can level up like B-spec drivers.

This and my idea alone i think would make such a good story mode. As for the money, i think it should only be used when you're still amateur on something, and the company that sponsors you will handle the costs of running a team, but with budget and all. With that, you can sign to a different team if they invite you for more possibilities of having a better car and career. Also, your earnings will be use to buy parts for your own personal cars and cars in general. Basically, you work as a professional driver who gets their income primarily from driving. I personally like the idea of engineer and such.

Even though these types of threads are what GTP are about and they get people hyped and let us be creative they are pretty pointless, since PD don't look to us for ideas and only use their own.

A better Toca Race Driver then.

Sponsors is a really big deal in racing and it should get in. The better you do, the more races you win especially at higher levels gets you better sponsors which means more money they pay you on top of your race winnings. Instead of a blank driving suit the sponsors you earn will start to appear on it until you look like a top professional

To give Gran Turismo 6 endless PC sim style gameplay the challenge needs to be ongoing and dynamic. Maybe your sponsor wants you to run a certain race that you have no control over and they're counting on you to do well. Do well and they extend their contract, do poorly and they could drop you.

This isn't too far from reality. When Scott Speed lost his Formula 1 ride Red Bull wanted him to move to NASCAR and drive for the Red Bull team there. When things didn't go well Red Bull got rid of Speed and ended their sponsorship of him. Last time I checked Speed was suing Red Bull.

Madden NFL 13 is said to be the world's first sports RPG. Maybe GT6 can be the world's first racing RPG

I dont think all people understand what he means with a storymode. I think he don't means a storymode with a story and videos.

He means a career starting with karts and than seasons like FIFA, F1. You race and if you're good some teams will ask you if you want to join their team in the GT3 for example.

Its not a NFS storymode so free roam is a waste of ressources and money.

I don't think that story mode will come in gt5 but it's good to put it in gt6

I wouldn't mind a story/career in GT6. I believe the level system was a failed attempt to make career progress. I wouldn't mind seeing a story similar or a little the same as those in Pro Race Driver or Race Driver 2. But that doesn't mean they should quit on classic GT mode, they can have both as Codemasters did with Race Driver 3 (having a story mode and a work-your-way-up mode)

A story mode in Gran Turismo would be a deal breaker for me.

I'm not sure if GT6 needs a story mode to be honest. Infact, for what GT is, it can't have a story mode, if you're talking about cinematic scenes like in NFS or R:Racing Evolution. It just needs a good way to progress through its career mode. The leveling system in GT5, imo, is a step in the right direction, only it was implemented poorly. All it needs is that simple rookie driver-turned pro feel. I believe that's what GT5 tried to do with the leveling system, on the way that you can't just jump into a LeMans car in the beginning.

Bottom line, it needs a lot of events!

No story mode...
The current 'mode' PD is applying to their games is good enough for me, so there'll be no need to change it ;)

A proper career mode wold be nice

LOL!:lol::lol: The funny thing is, this is in fact true.

Since they are hesitant to make damage mandatory, I'm sure this was considered to be the best solution to the moronic wall-banging and wall-riding that has plagued so many games, GT included, in the past. GT5 online (no damage) without the magnetic walls would just be NFS Underground(a wall-grinding fest if you never played it) all over again, as there were tons of places in the old GT games in which the fastest line used the wall. Walls have even ruined some of the TTs in GT5 even with the magnetism.

I would rather have a B-Spec Bobette right now than a story mode.

And no, I wouldn't like a story mode in GT. It just doesn't fit well for me there. This is a racing simulator... Not sure if a story driven mode would actually be good for this series.

I don't really care for a story in the same sense as a Race Driver/GRID game but I would like to see a complete overhaul in how the A-Spec mode works and the races that are featured.

If I see Sunday cup, Grand Valley 300km and Laguna Seca 200miles etc in the exact same format as they are now in the next GT game I'm not going to be impressed

This.

GT4 was the best in the series, maybe they can leave B-Spec as it is (seriously, no matter how you put it B-Spec will always be the game playing itself, just boring.). Maybe make the special events part of the A-Spec series and just make more creative and interesting races.

I don't want any "NFS like" in my GT!

So no, keep it like that, and ad something else if you want...

*me talking to Yamauchi-San* :dopey:
