I don't want any "NFS like" in my GT!

Keep in mind NFS:PU is about 20 years old, it's Nothing (yes, capital N) like the modern, please-the-tweenies, versions of NFS. It was more like the GT series, elegant, instead of boardroom based.

Okay okay how about this. The story mode of GT is of course, GT Life. Its a open city world where a GT player explores the city, but the main goal is to compete in events in order to progress through the game, like the old GT's. But these events will take place going in the Event building to takepart in races. That'll be the game's main object to complete it.

A 'story mode' is just about the last thing that GT5 needs ... how about a more intuitive and better planned out career progression up through the ranks instead!?

I think that is what story mode Kaz implied. I dont really see it being a mode with a story behind it, if that makes sense.

Actually, even though the magnetic wall has caused me to curse on many occasions for it's sheer stupidity and contradiction to the phrase "real driving simulator", what I would which for MOST, above any story or career mode, is a PROPER AI that actually races against you.

- Proper AI that actually battles instead of running their own zombie lines
- Proper race qualifying (no more starting from 5th, 7th, or 12th)
- Proper race distances (3 laps is just wrong)

This would transform GT5's A-Spec.

I dont think all people understand what he means with a storymode. I think he don't means a storymode with a story and videos.

He means a career starting with karts and than seasons like FIFA, F1. You race and if you're good some teams will ask you if you want to join their team in the GT3 for example.

Its not a NFS storymode so free roam is a waste of ressources and money.

Exactly, really simple to understand guys...
I'd like something like that. A "simulator" of the life of a driver as well, starting with amateur stuff just like now but more deep, with actual championship (Super gt is the first thing i can think of :dopey:) You can keep the actual gt mode for a simplier and more "classic" gt experience.
It's really that difficult?

Did you even read the first post along with the OPs contribution? He's clearly implying a video/cinematic based story. I think everyone just brought the OPs vision and took a realistic spin on it (ie; detailed career mode).

How to do free roam and real circuit racing.... Your based out of a huge city (some japanese city with mountains) You go to racing school (gt license) then after you get a chance to race for a racing team.. This is how your going to travel through out the tracks in the game thru your racing team.. And after x amount of time you will have enough money to start your own team and then start hiring Bobs to help race and build race funds.. And then you guys can work your way from lower tier racing (rm cars) all the way up to f1 ,wrc, fia gt1. and you can master all the styles of racing or just chose to master some..

Now for free roam.. Your race team is based out of your city and you can drive around to shops to buy parts for your car.. Or items for your team like race suites and helmets etc etc.. And you can also set up races with friends In the mountains or in the streets or you can rive around and follow the rules...
For tuning it needs to be deeper we may need 2 or 3 different forms of rm cars each car..
My idea

Pretty great idea if you ask me. Let's see how Forza Horizon ends up being and how they implement free roam to a Simulator. (Yes I will buy that game and see how it is!)

I love this idea. 👍 GT Life, as a big free roam city. Where a driver and creating his team to work their way up to become the world's bestest and fastest driver ever existed in the world of Gran Turismo. :)

I honestly don't understand the widespread fascination with free roam.

I like racing games. I'd hope they'd make the racing better, or at least somewhat realistic.

In my opinion, free roam as a main feature is too much for a GT game. But as a side feature, it does open up to a lot of "extra" possibilities that have never been experienced in a GT game, and only in games like Test Drive Unlimited or Midnight Club. If you've never liked racing games with free roam, I guess it can be hard to understand. My guess is the people with this fascination is those that have played, know, or liked the games that I mentioned and of similarity. It's something that has never been done with "realistic" physics and I think something Forza horizon is trying to attempt.

I have no interest in story mode. That said, the start as an armature thing sounds boring and cliche.

Start as a rich former world class racer (which is probably more accurate for people who have played GT for 1000000000000 hours) who is trying to start a new race team using his own bottomless pit of money (which still makes you poor compared to factory backed teams). You decide on a race series to enter and get some cars, mechanics, and drivers. Initially, with your amazing skill and experience, your team dominates. However, as you go to bigger sports, your team needs to be strong everywhere, it's no long enough to rely on you. You face a choice, keep your current drivers and help them improve, or replace them with better racers using your name and recent successes.

Sticking with your original team leads to a session of intense training where you take your drivers through special events and unofficial races (interactive B-Spec training?). You could also try to build up a good relationship with a particular manufacturer, which leads to better cars/parts/support and eventually the ability to provide your input into the vehicle design process (putting GT's fantasy versions of real race cars to good use).

Should you abandon your team, they might come back as rivals and end up as the biggest obstacles to winning (conveniently).

Another idea for a story would involve a car maker mode where you start a company.

I wouldn't want any of this to be mandatory, though I guess it wouldn't differ from everything before. We would just get cut scenes.

A Race Driver Grid "story" would be great.

You need to create a team. Earn money. Buy a car. Contract a 2nd pilot. Win races and get new sponsors and each one gives you different amounts of money per different race result. You can put a certain amount of sponsors of course.

At first you can start being a young boy racing in Kartings with your own team. Then moving to Formula 3000 or Formula Ford/BMW, etc. Then depending on the level and money combined you can buy expensive cars to enter in different competitions like Touring cars (WTCC, British TC, V8 Supercars), FIA GT (a regular FIA GT car cost about 400000 euros MB SLS GT3...then you need pneumatics, etc), Super GT, DTM, Porsche Cup...etc

Of course every category in their own country or all being fictional championships all around the world but with all categories with realistic rules and regulations, etc.

Then of course you have the WEC competition and Rally and at the top of all F1 with the biggest prizes and you being a pro. (if we can´t have the licence PD can invent something with a similar car of the Formula GT...)

Possibilities are there...PD can combine the regular licence tests with this. They should give it a little bit more sense to the "GT Life" thing.

My 2 cents. Elaborate. lol

I am also not interested in a story mode.
All I want is heaps and heaps and heaps of events - I want to be able to select any car in my garage and have an event for it.
I would also like many more tracks, an event creator, and a proper track creator - where you could for example generate a 40-50km track - point to point, and just go for a drive.

So - tracks and events.

Lol your not the only one buying it.. and thanks

im starting to like that :)

I really like some concepts there, anyways I have my own (similar to others)
You start as a street racing driver (Special stages, Paris, Tokyo etc.) then as you build up some reputation, you start getting pro-teams contracts offers.

When you already signed one, depending on which one you signed (Touring cars, Rally, Some Formula 3000, time attack etc.) You start on a low-budget car, and after winning some races, you get some sponsors, get better cars etc. At that time you start expanding into other categories. At the last races, you can team up with Bobs (and Bobettes) for endurance races.

At last, you have to make a choice, making a new team (B-spec) or continue racing (Seasonal Events). Which ever you choose, you are free to expand your collection of cars.

Please tell me your opinions! :dopey:

There's already a Story Mode within GT5. It's called A Spec. You can't boot up a fresh new game, buy the FGT and enter the Dreamcar Championship. Funnily enough you can't buy a go-kart and start karting first either.

Splitting up different genres within GT5 is a bad idea, leads to specific scrunity and resentment from series that don't get the investiment other genres do. That being said, GT hasn't really invested too much on other genres than circuit racing. If GT's idea of completion is a Triple Crown winner, It needs to put a lot more investiment into the other two crown jewels. Separate F1 & F3000 championships with Nationwide & Sprint championships on the other side.
Within GT5, both Daytona, Monaco and Le Mans are considered inferior to the Ring 24hr.

Free roam? This isn't need for speed! Or Driver, for that matter. No, closed competitions with specific restrictions & quirks are required for GT. The focus shouldn't be on some fictional city that doesn't hold any relevance. I know people like to merge SS5 & SSR11 into some super city, with links to the the other GT staples such as Deep Forest, Trial Mountain & High Speed Ring etc...into like a GT island, but it couldn't work at the moment.

The flaws in the Class & Credit systems are far more fundamental and detrimental to GT's career mode than this Story idea.

They should make it a dating sim.

The whole point is you build up your racing career to impress a grid girl until she'll go out with you, or maybe just that blond girl who chats on the cellphone all day.

Gran Turismo 5 - The Real Driving/Dating Simulator.

...Yeah...no... :dopey:

I don't mind the concept of a story mode, just not in GT. Should be kept the way it is with no storyline, just the age old progression from Sunday Cup racing in old FTO's and 206's up to 24h endurance races in LMP's. Licences should return to a more meaningful role and cars should be much harder to acquire at the start of the game. The majority of the cars tend to be slow and are disproportionally misrepresented. There should certainly be a Skyline series at least. So many available cars, same for Mazdas and Mitsubishis.

Maybe they should have separate "halls" or "tabs" for race series such as NASCAR and Super GT which can only be unlocked after achieving the required licence, car and wins in other series.

GT was always more about racing everyday cars than fully fledged racing series with team mates, sponsors etc, to me anyway. Certainly wouldn't like it to revolve around a fixed story, that would just be awful. I.e.

Yes, this would work too.

GT doesn't need a "Horizon" title or feature.

Don't expect to get laid in a Standard backseat... chicks only go for Premium.

That isn't the definition of a story mode. The only reason you can't do what you mention is because of a level system blocking you, not being you haven't progressed to that part of the 'story' yet.

As long as a major part of the story was racing road cars then I'd be ok with it. For me the road cars are the most enjoyable ones in the game. Don't misunderstand me though. The race cars are still good too.

Love the idea.

I'd hope future titles be it involving story or not has more of an appreciation of the value of money.
I want to feel as if I earned those RS, or engine mods.
The current formula has us all buying whatever we want, whenever we want.
Money grows on trees and falls from the heavens in the current GT World. Much like it did before 2008.
Kaz, we need a recession.

Lol money wasnt so easy to come by in gt5 its cause ppl cried why its so easy now

Lack of credits was never the issue for me, leveling up used to be rough. I guess I'm just part of the old school GT community and likes things to be tough.

A story mode would be a good idea but I would likely skip most of the movie stuff to get on with racing.

Assuming his work is about cars, do some of you actually think he has any idea how to wright a story? We know he is not going to farm that out to a different company to take care of because thats not how they work. Remember they love to behind schedule to much for them to add another burden on their already over worked sweat shop they have as a crew.

I think a story mode from PD would turn out like a comic book cut out. Remember how Jeff Gordon looks? Now imagine seeing that every other race or so. Nahhh, PD stick to making cars and letting me drive them. Leave that to the studios that put less dev time into making a car feel like a arcade racer!
