GT5 Car Database

Well when we get the full game I'll need people to help fill in all the blanks on things such as prices and level requirements. I'd imagine we'd all take a little chunk and look at updating and validating data.

Basically I want to use it as a resource that people can use for keeping track of a collection or completing licences and races.
For instance, having trouble getting gold on a FF race? Just filter for all FF cars and see which has the best power to weight ratio that you can afford.
Trying to get your head around all the Skylines and GT-Rs? Join the club, but keep track with this.
Just made level 10? See what cars you can get and which you can't afford with this.
Playing GT5 like pokemon? Well this is your new pokedex.

Would something explain that my previous (and first) post on page 3 is ignored?

I'm hard at work on that car DB with the same purpose slackboy exposed. ;-)

Slackboy, do you want/allow me to merge your datas in my DB ?

BTW, i hope to find a GT5 copy tomorrow evening (friday, it should be available in Paris)

Yeah that would be fine. Just wait for me to upload a more recent copy tonight.
It's 12:30 here now. I'll be home in about 6 hours when I'll post something new up.

Nice. I'll sleep at this time (it's 3am here), i'll get that tomorrow (before searching through the town for a GT5 copy...)

I will help when I can if you need it for updating... let us know what you want us to do... I for one want all the colors and will have multiple colors of some of the better cars in my mind. I also hope the stealth edition cars besides the 787b will make a return as well.

Here's to hoping we don't have to wait for day 694 again, or whatever that was... arghh@@

That's pretty much exactly what I had planned already. My list has a checklist feature in place too, so people can filter cars based on whether they own them or not as well as any other filtering you would think you'd need. It also keeps track of how many unique cars you own of the 1031.

New file: Link

Yeah basically if we get three or four or five of us we can divvy up the makes and models that don't have info. Even if we do maybe ten cars each a day we can knock it off in three weeks. I have leave from work in a couple of weeks so I'll be working full time on GT5 (and watching cricket).

If we would use Google Docs to share the spreadsheet there could be several of us updating it at the same time.

Unless someone have made a site with db where we can work together and get it up-to-date. :)

Can I call false advertising here please.

Although I give the utmost respect to falango and others for giving up their time to provide a service for people, it's probably more community spirited than I'm likely to be, I need to just point one thing out.

An Excel spreadsheet is NOT a database.

Hey Falango, I know you're excited to make this, but I and Jump_Ace are doing exactly the same thing, and we already have the database in SQL, as well as the website to host it. The only thing left is adding the cars and their specs :D. What do you think of making kind of a partnership?

That's a database, SQL.

SQL is a language. ;) But yeah..

So I assume some people would prefer it in an Oracle table, eh?
Well I spend an inordinate amount of time writing SAS and SQL code at work. I hate it. I do it because no-one else in my section can. I assume it's not as universal a skill set as the ability to use an excel spreadsheet.

So I politely refuse your pedantic complaint. You can import it into a RDBMS of your own. Feel free.

Sorry for not being literally correct............

I wanted to take the time to collect data and share it. I don't see no respect there, so back down alright??

Is there something ready for the 23rd/24th regarding web-site/db etc?
Just wanna know if I should code my own stuff or not.

I'm happy to help to collect data etc and know some people who can assist as well.

It should be ok for me, as far as we're talking of a minimal functionnal thing.
Here's my DB status :
UI : almost finished. It allows user to filter and order data, plus a nice feature to tag a car as "owned" (or remove it from the list) in just one clic, without having to reload the webpage. Remaining work consist in removing code/link that won't make it for the 23th/24th (and reactivate it after the release, when i can), and handle specific units.
Data : car list done with official data (not much => name, year, maker...). Some data from GT4 (Sackboy file) will be imported tomorrow, but it'll let blanks in the DB. I consider to set-up a submit system for GT5 in-game data, but i'd do it at the end.
Hosting : no files online yet, but hosting is ready.

I got the game this morning (and sadly away from home all the day...), i didn't play as much as i'd want but i did notice that :
- i must add a "car level" field in DB, it is as important as in-game cash until the player reach the maximum level.
- some data are still hidden in the game itselft for some cars
- we can only see Premium models at cars retailers. Standard car specs can only be seen randomly on Used Cars screen, and that won't help to fill the DB.
- I didn't find a way to test a car ingame in a reliable way (test or drag track). Maybe we'll unlock this by playing A-spec (i'm only level 4...)

good luck finding all the cars.
Will be one hell of a task.
800 Standard cars under 1 used dealership which only shows 30 at a time and it refreshes every few minutes.
And of course you not guaranteed to get 30 different cars each time.

Good news Milouse, looking forward to it.
I guess you are planning to have users being able to update car data? That would be great where many people could contribute to populate details. :)

We might get some standard cars as rewards for licenses or races as well. There are some rare standard cars that would qualify as good reward cars.

EDIT:

Confirming standard cars as rewards, as amar212 has confirmed he received a standard car as a reward for license tests. In fact, 2 of the 3 rewards for the first level of licenses are standard cars.

Would you be able to a link to the most recent version on the first post..

Can I suggest that you use dropbox for hosting, its free and you can put the spreadsheet in a public folder, you could also create a shared folder that you can all work on to update the spreadsheet. Google Docs (like someone has already mentioned.) is worth a look as well.

I have hosting already that I will upload it to. I have an early version of mine with no technical car data in it because originally I wanted to wait until release to enter it all. I guess I could just go ahead and use GT4 and GT5P for that data to start off. I'll start putting that together tomorrow morning and upload the first verison.

Anytime. I think it would be a better idea to work together on this, and right now we have several people going at it. Anyone that has data collected already, can they upload what they currently have and provide a link to me via PM. What I can do is distribute that link amongst us that are collecting this stuff, and we can decide on a template to use so we can go forward with one project rather than lots.

Well if this does work out maybe the spreadsheet could be added to the GT5 guide on the site and a link to this thread added to the 'GT5 Forum Index'

It can be a good idea. Seems like Monstermunch has a lot of experience in this sort of thing...and a lot of time :)

What are your default unit in your country for Torque (Nm, lb-ft...) and Power (HP, PS, ch...) ?
It is now (in GT5) set by the system settings and not by an ingame menu...

I bought a used car and noticed that power was 280 PS in Used Car list spec sheet, but 298 PS in my garage.
Was this happening in GT4 too ?
I don't like this when working on a database...
