Hi there folks,

take a look at this:

https://www.gtplanet.net/more-screenshots-videos-of-gt5s-new-damage-modeling/

it seems in the full retail game you get nowhere near this kind of damge. Im level 22 now and i tried hard to get this immense scale of damage but it never happened to me.

Could it be that PD scaled the physics down on the damage, just before the release of the full game?

Because those are screens from the kiosk demo, which was released just a few months before the official release.

please thell me your thoughts and experience about this case.

I'd rather have this kind of damage, than a toned down, which looks nowhere near to reality. The dmage in those pictures looks way better than i experienced it in the full game.

You say that, and I fully agree with you, but there were many people on here who, after seeing the kiosk demo damage, were very unimpressed. Quite a lot of people called for it to be toned down, so be careful what you wish for I guess.

I bet it's a political reason - car manufacturers complaining, or possibly Sony telling Kaz to tone down GT5 so they have somewhere to go for GT6. Can't peak too soon!

Man there's so many problems with this game I'd be fascinated to hear the story of how it came to be released. I wouldn't be surprised if there's been some screamer arguments at PD about it.

this sucks so badly.

I dont udnerstand those people, now everybody is complaining of how bad the car damage looks to be and how its nearly non-existent. FIrst the scream for toning it down, now they scream for more. I dont get these people...

i was very pleased, not to say amazed, when i saw those pictures popping up.

I thought: "wow GT5 also really manages to even get the damage right", but WTF is this **** we got in the end? it looks like garbage... they should have kept the kiosk demo damage it was way better and really had a realistic feel to it, due its entirely calculated with physics.

the damage in gt5 is kinda crappy ... but i dont care i try not to hit things anyways .. :)

edit: also iceman did you notice any changes in performance after the damage was done?

I just had 5 laps around a custom eiger track and this is my result...

...

Looks pretty much the same to me...

what lvl are you? and how did you crash?

was this the result of driving backwards and hiting frontal into the other car?

There is less deformation, thatn in the kiosk demo, which is obivous.

My theory is the damage engine (mostly mechanical) is not 100% finish due to bug, glitch,... what we see right now is just place holder. Also Kaz said it will be patched in this month so we have to wait and see.

Hopefully.

But what exactly i Kaz going to patch about it? wasnt it just, that mechanical damage will be included such as punctures and stuff?.

Hopefully they'll add the fully featured damage in the nextt patch.

Wow that spoiler is just... I don't even know, I think it should've fallen off by that point.

Has anyone gotten the dramatic door ripping off kind of damage we saw in the trailers yet?

Lvl 15, crashes were a variety of hitting the wall and flipping on the jumps, and I only did 5 laps, and there's only 5 corners to the track. I didn't drive in the opposite direction.

I'm hoping we'll get mechanical damage. I couldn't care less about cosmetic damage really. However, I do hope the damage will be inplemented throughout, meaning that AI cars that ram you in the back have the chance of messing up their steering.

I don't think that excuse is valid anymore these days for many manufacturers. Licensed cars are smashed to bits in NFS Hot Pursuit, and if I recall correctly GRID and NFS Shift also had extensive damage modeling. And DiRT 1+2 as well, but since they only use rally/race cars, perhaps the licensing deals are a bit different in those cases.

I do think they mentioned in an NFS Hot Pursuit interview though that Ferrari still wasn't ready to allow their cars to be heavily damaged in games, but there's no lack of other high profile manufacturers and cars in that game.

Oh, and just in case anyone should be ready to jump at me for comparing GT5 to Need For Speed :), I'm obviously strictly speaking about the subject of damage modeling here.

Clearly damage, rollovers and collision physics aren't PD's strongest point. They excell in driving physics, that's it. I think we have to accept that this is the damage we are getting for GT5. Far from the same quality as GRID, but so be it. And I'm quite sure that the damage that will be added through a patch later on will be the mechanical damage and that only. If they would tweak the visual damage aswell, that would be great of course, but I'm not hoping for it.

yes, infact it is a trophy to break your door off called "watch out for falling objects" or something like that.. the maximum damage appears in arcade mode in a professional race, using a rally car, crashed like 200 times and you can get both doors to swing and then break off and mangle the car. also I noticed you can damage the R34 skyline really well too. try that mode if you're looking for damage. can also add tire wear and fuel that will run out, etc.

some thing i noticed that bugs me more then the lack of cosmetic and mechanical damage is the lack of sound when hitting walls often you wont hear nothing after hitting a wall at over 100mph

That's because you're screaming obscenities too loud to notice. :dopey:

im not sure how the damage looks like crap on other peoples game. my game damage looks just like the demo. you can shred cars up. im only level 22 though and the cars have been destroyable since level 0. maybe its a US thing. i dont know. some standard cars can get messed up too like the Camaro SS.
