Does anyone know for sure if GT5 will be installed to the hard drive or is it just played off the disc itself? if it is installed directly to the HDD then i will most likely not be able to play it seeing as how my PS3 still shuts off when i play GT5P and Socom Confrontation. Thanks in advanced to anyone that can confirm that.

No clue,

My guess is you buy the Disc verion and some of the game will be required to install to HDD. Do not worry about crashing. It will be way more polished over SOCOM.

LSX
You can install disc games on the HD? HOWWW?

Isn't Prologue installed on HDD?
I'm pretty sure it's and you need to have still the disc in aswell to be able to play. Doesn't make much sense IMO, but what do I know about programming... :)

However there are many games that give you option to install about 5 GB in order to reduce loading times.

To prevent piracy. If you could download the game to the HDD and take out the disc, then all your friends could get it for free

If it saves loading times and wear and tear on the Blu Ray player the more it installs to the HDD the better for me anyway.

Yeah, the more it actually saves to the HDD, the better** for many of us.
**Provided you own a 160GB Play Station3®.
For now my free storage is around 17 GB only out of the whole 160 GB HDD. I've download lots of movies, musics, games and I have around 110 Demos. But when GT5 comes out and space is needed, I won't care about the stuff I had on my PS3, I'll just delete them.
The reason? Because all those stuff were there just to help me get busy instead of counting seconds to get the game in my hands :) I'll surely make an "Unboxing GT5" video on youtube. :D

Man... i have a 80gb disk, 40 gb still available... i dont store a lot, thats my philosophy ... play a demo, delete after get tired of... videos the same thing, and so on.. i keeps just what i need. Would be the same if i have a 250gb hdd... i dont like store old things just to keep them... anyway, i cand re-download any of my psn games when i miss them... so, why keep all of them at the same time?

I think sony has policy for max HD installation space reguirement. (under 10 gigs or something)

I would not mind even installing 100 gigs i did not have put disc in every time.

^^ When you get GT5 you won't need to switch a disc again untill GT6P comes ;)

i have a 40 gb PS3 and only 12 of those remain so will there be (or infact is)a harddrive for a PS3 or will i have to buy a new one because the main reason I bought a PS3 is to play GT5

I think GT5 will have an optional install in order to reduce load times, just like the umd version of GT PSP ;)

I would say that GT5P, just like Socom and Warhawk, need to be installed because there is a PSN version of the game

Sony only allows a 5GB max for installations (Game Data), not including DLC or updates ;)

Interesting.

GT5P is completely installed to the HDD like all(?, Burnout is an exception) other games available as BD and download.

I hope installation of GT5 will be optional.

I've got more than enough space left to install the whole lot, but I doubt SONY will be as friendly as Microsoft in that respect. Whatever the limit is, be it 5GB, then I hope we are able to install that to at least speed up the core of the game (initial load, menus etc.)

Yes you can change the HDD at the moment a 500GB is the largest for the PS3. The PS3 uses the same HDD as a laptop with a 2.5" disk. A 500Gb can be bought for about 75-100 dollars.

Honestly I could care less about load times seeing as every game on my hdd does it(three beeps with blinking light, sometimes yellow light). If I have the option to install that will be good but if I'm required to install then I'm going to have to buy a new PS3 which at the moment I can't, so hopefully some details come out soon.

I really don't care if it's 30gb or more! I got over 150gb free on my HDD.

thanks alot that is what I wanted to know you just saved me alot of money:tup:

It's not a technical limit though, as both Fallout 3 and Oblivion GOTY's take up over 6GBs each.

true, but those games include DLC and / or updates over their original releases

'out of the box' new releases must fit in the 5GB limit (that is probably why MGS4 have that per chapter installation thing)

@sems4arsenal: You should buy a 5400 rpm hd though.
The 7200 rpm ones produce more heat, that COULD lead to problems
