GT5 increased showing of Airplanes.

I am a pilot in real life although all my experience is in a Cessna 172. (Embry Riddle student)

GT5 trailers have included many airplanes in them going back to the business jet drag race against an R10 and 787B.
I am trying to get a feel on why Kaz has shown an interest in flying machines of late.
I should say i am one of those people that thinks motorcycles should not be in GT as i like bikes too much and feel that a TT2 is a better solution. I also think I'd be interesting to have a "Real Flying Simulator" now that Microsoft has canned Flight Sim. (In a different game totally separate from GT)

GT has enough to worry about with car inclusion as I won't be satisfied with GT until every Group C prototype and 80's/90's F1 car are included.

Do you really think this observation deserves its own thread?
please... we have a general discussion thread for this...
I'll fly away :)

He has a point... But the new ones were mainly Red Bull racing planes.

I don't think you'll be seeing a PD made flight sim anytime soon... From a marketing perspective, Flight sims are such a specialised market, and have a very small audience. PD are always going to focus on Gran Turismo and Tourist Trophy I think.

Maybe they'll include the Top Gear thing Where Richard Hammond had to race the Euro Fighter with the Veyron... Or probably not

yeah what is with all the planes do you think its pd just syaing look how good are game is the cars are soo good and we can also do planes

Since i took the time to write up a thread, then yes, i obviously think it deserves one. If you have nothing useful to add, then "fly away" indeed.

To the rest of the posters, i agree. I think this is PD showing off their graphical talent. As i have a big interest in all forms of transport, i think I'd be interesting to even see other types represented as additions to spark an interest. Imagine the Monaco GP with Donzi sports racing baots in the Marina and a Red Bull air race taking place while the cars are racing. (Something that would never happen in real life)

Well, if they intend to create a flight sim ( which they could perhaps, although unlikely I have to admit ) they could do something like Red Bull Air Race ( not something done by other flight sims I believe ).
Although I wouldn't mind planes in GT5, travelling from one racetrack to another loaded with the car in the cargo bay or the occassional airplane race, etc.
But I think it's a safe bet those planes are just static backdrops for Photo Mode although Top Gear test track is technically an airport..........:)

I think I replied too quickly and my post may seem rude.
I never said that your observation is not valid, I just thought that a thread was too much.
Don't take it personally, I didn't want to hurt you. I hope you comprehend.

I think PD are simply exploring the atmosphere around motorsport, if you have been to any major motorsport events, there are a lot of airdisplays that take place too, Le Mans is even started with one.
As we have seen with the new Nurburgring, they have focused on adding more spectators, tents, and just basically making the whole feel of the game a bit more lively. The aircraft are simply another aspect of this.

You are basically witnessing Kaz's mental attention to detail rather than references to any new games.

I think Motominded sort of has a valid point. Because there is the matter of the (what appears to be) a Learjet on the runway at the same time as the cars. That must be another surprise for us.

Or as mentioned, Just added background detail.

DHL is the official transport used by F1.

I'm trying to find a photo of the WTCC plane as it heads to Macau.

We are used to nice cut scenes in GT and i agree that one where we see the cars travel to a destination would be interesting.

1. Le Mans and Indy 500 starts with Airplane flyover.
2. The new locations are on airports, Top Gear track and Red Bull's Hangar-7.
3. There are helicopters in the air on the rallytracks.

As a big race fan, i have to saw my favorite views after the onboard are the helicopter shots. They give the best indication of the speeds race cars and bikes can reach.

Totally agreed.
I would really love to have a helicopter cam for the replay; that would be great.
I think it's not going to happen, by the way, because it really enlarge the view range so that PD would have to detail also track surroundings...

Does anybody know what planes were flying over the Lambo in the E3 trailer? The only thing I love just as much as cars are planes, so it would be nice to know what those were.

Working in the aerospace industry, i appreciate the thread's owner's concern and interest. This is a valid thread.

Having said that, this may be jumping the guns just a bit; (although i was thinking exactly like you when i read the title... Real Flying Simulator  )

Nice vision, but i am afraid it's not going to be released until 2050, not until after GT8 or something. :scared:

I think his observation is not valid, and that this is a pointless/stupid thread.
Your reasonings are pretty basic and non-constructive in this thread, you don't belong here.

What did you just say? Some good English and grammar would be very much appreciated. Thank you for attending school first.

And that makes it acceptable to spam the thread does it?

Let me answer that with one word. NO.

Don't do this again unless you like the idea of an infraction.

Scaff

Depends, what does an infraction entail?

Seriously though, I'm the only one around here that thinks that threads like this are rubbish? THE PREVALENCE OF PLANES IN A CAR GAME??!?!?! What next, indepth soil analysis based on the road and ground textures used?

Fine - I'm out.
