Dear all, it seems that the discussion about what planes were flying over the lambo in the E3 trailer reached a conclusion that it looks like a mix of the rear end of an F-18, and the front of either a Su-27 or Su-20 because of the canards.

Yup, I think the conclusion's correct. Here's a screen capture of that flypast. :)

He has a point... But the new ones were mainly Red Bull racing planes.

I don't think you'll be seeing a PD made flight sim anytime soon... From a marketing perspective, Flight sims are such a specialised market, and have a very small audience. PD are always going to focus on Gran Turismo and Tourist Trophy I think.

Agreed well said.

got another e-mail and i think its got news in it !!!! so the red bull hangar responded again saying...The main target is to enrich the user experience and the game itself. The main focus in the game developement was the quality of the game but also the add additional features as spectacular venues. We have included three venues which we think are the beginning of a new user experience. The airplanes are well chosen and part of the spectacular venue of the Red Bull Hangar-7.

Best
Marcel
...

does this mean 3 new tracks as venues or what?!?!?! you guys decide

Given that they said three venues. I'm going to assume it means three picture-areas.

Indeed. As I said earlier, it's something right out of Ace Combat.

Does anyone else remember the blimp in GT3? I was playing GT3 at Trial Mountain yesterday, and almost lost the race I was in because it distracted distracted me and reminded me of this thread. If you don't remember where it is, you can see it over the start/finish line on forward or reverse. I've mostly been playing GT3, but has anyone else noticed any other aircraft in other GT titles or TT in the past?

I am a pilot in real life although all my experience is in a Cessna 172. (Embry Riddle student)

GT5 trailers have included many airplanes in them going back to the business jet drag race against an R10 and 787B.
I am trying to get a feel on why Kaz has shown an interest in flying machines of late.
I should say i am one of those people that thinks motorcycles should not be in GT as i like bikes too much and feel that a TT2 is a better solution. I also think I'd be interesting to have a "Real Flying Simulator" now that Microsoft has canned Flight Sim. (In a different game totally separate from GT)

GT has enough to worry about with car inclusion as I won't be satisfied with GT until every Group C prototype and 80's/90's F1 car are included.

Golden. 👍

Before the Le mans 24 hour race in GT4, after the start race there are 8 Airplanes flying by with different colors. I was trying to figure it out what kind of plane are those, but since it's too small I can't see it.

That appeared to be an autoclave.

It's where they bond the layers of carbon fibers for the F1 👍

I wouldn't really say that flight games have a small market and you can thank games such as Ace Combat for that.

As for PD making a flight, I would very much love to see PD make a flight/air combat sim and one comparable to the already awesome Aero Elite Combat Academy. Overall I wouldn't really say that the genre is limited to a particular group.

Ace Combat is definitely not a flight sim. Ace Combat is like the Need for Speed of flying games.

Looking at that pic above, I would say those jets look more fictional than real. I anything I would say that look crossed between a Saab JAS-39 Gripen and FA/18E.

For the record, Saab also is in the business of make fighter planes, the same goes for Mitsubishi(F-2A and F-2B; both being relative of the F-16) and Kawasaki(C-1)

True that Ace Combat isn't true sim Aero Elite Combat Academy is, but its very much a flight game that depend some fighter planet actual physics

akiraacecombat, Aero Elite is on the PS2, however the other games in the series are on the DC.

Totally agreed.
I would really love to have a helicopter cam for the replay; that would be great.
I think it's not going to happen, by the way, because it really enlarge the view range so that PD would have to detail also track surroundings...

they already show some airial shots in replays/trailers at Nurburgring, Madrid, Toscana, Suzuka & Fuji. I like those replays. i hope you can watch them alot in the full game.

I know this might be alittle off topic but I Love "ACE Combat" :D

Me too:tup: I played flying games so much that by the time I started playing shooters (Socom series ps2) I had to invert my aim in the options so when you press down on the stick, you look up like you do in flying.

DHL is the official transport used by F1.

I'm trying to find a photo of the WTCC plane as it heads to Macau.

We are used to nice cut scenes in GT and i agree that one where we see the cars travel to a destination would be interesting.

The load screen should be a pre-rendered video of a plane flying.

Um? Is this entire thread pointless or waht? The name is "The Real Driving Simulator" not "The Real Flying Simulator".
I don't want online if people are gonna start crashing Airbuses into my Mercedes. Back off Boeing.

see I am not the only one who is a fan of ace combat series, and I'm a huge fan of cod series at least I hope PD don't get serious with this idea, otherwise:

Gran Turismo "the real drive-by simulator"

It's an F18 with a canard. There is no mistaken it's engine/tail layout.

Don't make sense why didn't they just use a real plane. It shouldn't be that hard to get a license to use the F-18. Which means that they had to sit down and actually design a fake plane to use. Wasted use of resources I think.

Might be harder than you think ( I remember Ace Combat proudly showing the manufacturers which licences they aquired ) or too costly for a game which only uses them for background appearance ( as opposed to a flight sim ).
As for resources, it might actually be easier and less time consuming to "design" your own planes, loosely based on real ones, than to painstakingly replicate each detail.
But then again they did model a Boeing Jumbo Jet ( or was this also a "fake"? ) and the planes in the Red Bull Hangar ( although these were mostly classic planes ).:)
