So... I'm guessing that the head tracking isn't actually following your head and moving the driver's head as well, it's actually to change the focus in which the virtual driver is looking at. This is brilliant really, if PD can pull it off by March of course...

Yes! Head tracking is back! I thought they scrapped it since it wasnt on the tgs features list.

Just the way I like it
The Sony rep explained that Polyphony's goal is for players to feel like they are experiencing what real racers see.[...] From his gestures, I suspect the head-tracking will be responsive more to leans than to head turns

"The other stand-out feature I was told about was head-tracking. The game will support the PlayStation 3 camera, the PlayStation Eye. While one wasn't hooked up at today's event, it was explained that the device will track a player's head movements. The goal is for the depth-of-field focal point far down the track to shift, matching your head movement. What you look at will be appear more clearly, in theory. So as you look a little to the right, the right part of what you see beyond your car may come more sharply into focus. But the car itself won't turn with your head, of course."

Thats actually huge, the attention to detail in this game is unreal.

Heres some things I noticed
Gears might not shift as well, for example.
Do you think that may be clutch damage as well as tranny damage? Maybe if you dont use clutch it gets damaged (like Forza)?

My Audi TT took no damage even as I bashed it against the wall. The Sony rep explained to me that damage for that car wasn't in the demo.
I think this proves that damage CAN be turned off.

From his gestures, I suspect the head-tracking will be responsive more to leans than to head turns, the latter of which obviously would make it hard to see the TV.
This clarifies the head tracking thing a lot IMO.

But GT's depth of field is wide anyway - in fact everything in view is in focus. For this ^^^ to work, they'd have to blur the rest of the screen you're not looking at. Doesn't make sense.

I think the FOV makes the most sense because people sit different distances from the screen, i.e. someone on a custom rig vs. a couch potato. if it was a "one size fits all" that would cause problems for the people.

I need to somehow intall a camera to my PlaySeats Evo chair.. hmmm

Great old news really! It has been confirmed since 1st PD website 1 day leak since E3!

I have to say the article is the biggest non-news news :) Doesn't help that the guy (the writer, or whatever they called nowadays) was pretty clueless.

Yea agreed after re-reading it your right. I was excited cause it was new :)

Funny whenever an article is written, most people come out and say that they were clueless just because they maybe didn't write something the way you would have done, or maybe didn''t ask a certain question. If you think you are better, go and do a better job yourself.

This could turn out to be be very nice.

The explanation reminds me of Uncharted 2 - the way things are more in or out of focus according to where your reticle is pointing. Maybe it's someting of this sort.

I hope that means we get finally a bit motion blur in the cockpitview and a better sense of speed.

Leaning head tracking could be very cool. You'll actually be leaning into a corner like in real life. How many people have you seen playing a sim for the first time, they lean into a corner because thats how it works in real life. By encouraging leaning your head to get the perfect view, the game is involving you more.

Its about as close you can get to reality without having a moving cockpit.

I always leaned when a car turned in bends he he.People were wondering what i was doing.Imagine what motorbike games would be like:D.There would be a wear patch in the carpet from getting my knee down :dopey:.

I am soooooo glad it isn't the type of headtracking where you turn the camera to look using small turns of your head, that sounded so bad.
The description's not too clear as to what it is exactly but i suspect it's the Johnny Lee style headtracking but maybe with some trick with depth of field. Could be very good, much more than just a gimmick, and totally awsome if combined with some sort of stereoscopic 3d viewing system.

UMM.. this is head tracking not focus tracking.. Soo if you move your head a little left then you will see a little left or more (adjustable)of left side of track..

I emulated it bit with a handphone camera and that is how implemented it would be.

And you don't need to use it ...

it helps to figure apex right on unknown track and give looots of imersion..

Though Johnny Lee style is cool for demos, I think that it actually takes away from the immersion. It really gives the image of sitting in front of a window instead of in the game.

UMM.. I don't think so, I definitely hope not.

Something tells me the PS3 eye will work just like Track IR. Which i will be very happy with it. Because Kaz mentioned in old E3 interviews that you will be able to LOOK AROUND THE COCKPIT of each car.
