GT5 keeps freezing. Very close to giving up the game completely.

I've had zero issues with the online portion of the game, only once maybe twice i got a message saying that the servers were down, and at that time they were down for everyone.
 
If most people can connect flawlessly, I would have to venture a guess that the problem is at your end.

1: See if you ISP is doing weird things to your internet line.
2: Make sure your home network is set up properly
3: Make sure you have good internet speed and line quality.
 
I had this happen to me several times though a bit different. GT5 was just a bit sluggish in loading the online portion. I had to take out the game disc in order for it to go back to normal

I have checked everything and my Internet connection is fine. If you look around there's plenty of people like me having problems with online gt5

I too think it's something related to the connection to GT5 servers.

for example this morning I tried to launch GT5 before going to work and it wouldn't even load to the selection screen.
so I quickly signed out of the PSN, and instantly it worked

why on earth is this happening I wonder?:grumpy::grumpy:
I y can play "off-line" no problems, but I never experienced any such issue with any other game with my Ps3

I obviously have the latest patch installed:ouch::ouch:

my wireless internet connection on the PS3 works fine (NAT 2), and connects to PSN almost instantly so I don't really know what to check apart from trying DMZ

I tried again a couple of times this week to join an online race,and a friends lounge.
I couldn't join either! i am getting sick and tired of this shizzle right now.
I''ve had 3 races in 3 months,this is f#$*%@+ rediculous!:mad:

I''m done with this CRAP!
 
Im having some issues over the last two days as well. I can no longer join and game or lounge and I previously had no trouble with it whatsoever. Very frustrating.
 
Not being able to join a game is frustrating but I'm not even able to play, and do whatever without the game freezing. Even just receiving gifts.
Has anybody written to Sony or PD and what did they respond?
It's clear that a lot of people are having issues and it's not an isolated issue at all!!
 
My network is setup perfectly and I have no problems at all. PS3 is wired with a static ip address , I have a good router , the PS3 is in the DMZ and maybe not as relevant but I also use Open DNS servers. GT5 has never crashed and when I have played online it has been flawless aside from a little lag but that's the same as every other game I have played online.

It would be interesting to know what bandwidth the people who are having problems are getting. PSN requires a minimum speed to work properly so this could cause problems if it's not met. I'm not sure what the requirements are for PSN and I'm no expert so I could be wrong on this.

I have roughly 7mb download and 1mb upload

The reason I did what I said in my other post was because I was having problems with PSN itself it would sign me out randomly and most if not all games would not work properly. It's strange that it's only GT5 that is not working on yours. Have you tried putting the ps3 into the DMZ of the router? Other than that I can't think of anything else that can be done. I don't think it's PD's servers as I think that I would be having problems if that was the case but like I said I'm not an expert so I could be wrong.
 
The online play is a joke really, i have the simlar problem in online play, sometimes it just disconnects from the servers for no reason, but it is only when certain players host a race. So i think it has something to do with the person hosting the lobby. Las night i tried to join a server, and after some minutes i got disconected. Then i joined another server, and i didnt get any disconections. It was the same track with the same amount of players etc. Some people really have bad internet conections, specialy the US players, because i only play with foreign countries. According to a test US has one of the lowest average internet connection speeds in the western world.
 
I log in to the PSN but I don't race online. I have the latest and greatest patch but I haven't experience anything as far as freezing or GT5 not properly working. I only play for 2-3 hours a night 4-5 days a week. Either its a defective disk, your ISP, or an aged PS3.
 
The only thing I haven't tried is to have my disc exchanged, but hardly think that's the solution, plus I don't think the shop would exchange it now.

I can obviously play off-line, but why should I accept a limitation from a poorly implemented feature?

What does it mean "aged ps3"? Shouldn't all games be retrocompatible? Otherwise it would be unbelievable or at least people who bought the 60gb pS3, like me, should have been warned NOT to buy GT5
 
You missed the most important thing, it is the server stability thats is bad, in forza 3 i played with all US players and i never got disconnected. The server infrastructure is bad implemented in GT5. The disconect depends on whos hosting the lobby, otherwise i wouldnt been able to play on other servers right?

Head over to the PSN forums, there are people experiencing issues with their ISP DNS servers, some ISP's use the same DNS servers and they are basically renting them from another company. I'm on Optimum Online in NYC I have no such issues getting online in GT5. My PS3 is 2nd generation I think, 160GB with 2 USB, I am wired and DMZ to prevent NAT downgrading that seems to happen randomly depending on how your router feels that day. I'll look up the forum and see if I can find it and send you a link.

Connect to PSN without any problems. The problem I have is connecting to the gt servers or at least this is how it reads and this seems to slow the whole game down
 
I'm not so sure this is network related from some of the posts I've read. Any updates on this? Clean install is all that worked for me. Didn't delete my gamesave of course...
 
I had those problems, then I went wired, and never looked back.
 
I had the same message about time settings being incorrect and fixed it by setting the time to automatic update. I haven't had any network problems though.

I'd try connecting a network cable directly to the psn to see if it makes any difference. Or DMZ is also a worth a try.

You know, it's great that the online is free but to have a stable network I would pay.
If I pay for it I can damn well expect it to work or they would have to sort out the issues.

As it's free I can't really moan can I.

that's interesting as when I launch GT5 it actually says something like "check your time settings".
I never cared as my time is actually correct.

what automatic update are you talking about though? how do I fix this?

Did you ever try this? Even if you can't do this permanently due to the layout of your flat / house, it would give you a hint if it's the wifi part that is causing the trouble.

My game has only frozen when the server or network was in trouble. Never had a single lock up which is isolated to the PS3 system or Blue Ray disc.

I tried all the suggestions above (DMZ, port forwarding, time settings, reinstall the game) except go wired as it's quite difficult for me to do it

I just had the disc exchanged and tonight will try again

if not I will try to back up my save file, delete it and start from scratch and see if maybe that file was corrupt:yuck:

alternatively it could be my old 60GB PS3 is on its last leg (but still works fine for all other games, Black OPs for instance), and could even think of trading that in for a 160GB new one, but only if I was sure that this would be the solution
