GT5 keeps freezing. Very close to giving up the game completely.

I was getting disconnected and long pauses before I went wired. What I currently do is run wireless to my laptop from the router (about 20 or so metres), then wired from my laptop to the ps3.

I have setup bridging up on my laptop (I'm running a macbook pro, so if you are running something different, you'll have to figure out how yourself).

Basically what I found was that the wireless signal to the ps3 was crap, even though nothing else had problems.

So, now everything is wireless, but I have the ps3 using the laptops wireless. I have not had a problem since.

In conclusion:
1. The ps3 wireless is crap (I have an old model).
2. The online code for gt5 is complete rubbish.

anyway I fully agree with your conclusion number 2
 
All I know, is that it depends on the hosts internet connection and equipment, and the bad implemented online play in gt5. There are many problems in online play, like disconnection, lag, invisible cars etc. It maybe has something to do with your router also, as mentioned earlyer something with the NAT etc. But still we would be able to play without messing around with our internet equipment and stuff. I mean we can play other games without problem right? Not mention how sucessful the xbox 360 servers are comparing to Sonys. It just a matter of time, if we want more stabile and faster servers, than I think we must pay, because nothing is free. I could pay about 40$/year for servers, but in that case I want no problems what so ever.
 
I've had similar problem you speak about. Have you tried ejecting the disk? I don't know why but when I did that I never experienced an issue again.
 
Tried wired connection. Solved it.
Ps3 wireless sucks big time!!!!!!
Gonna have to find a long enough cable....

No, I had no problems with other games.

But now I have no problems with any games :) And GT5, while having some flaws, is awesome.
 
I haven't seen any issues with wireless with my PS3, but it could be your:

1) Your routers wireless signal
2) The materials your house/apt is made of. My last house.....you could not get a wireless signal outside the room with the router. (or radio signals inside the house). I think it had metal studs or something.
3) Your PS3 as you stated.

GT5 has some serious issues with lag, connectivity, etc. It really makes you wonder if they did something wonky with the network code.
 
I have the same problem... i can play ANY other game online without LAG, SSF4, FIFA11, log in in PSN account, download games... but cant connect to GT5 Servers.
I tried static IP and Manual DSN without luck.
 
Mine hangs up between menus. GT logo just stays there.
Doing my head in.
 
Seems as if different DNS servers are causing massive amounts of packet loss

I have never had a problem with the GT5 servers though, and my game has never frozen

Where is everyone located? I'm in USA with a coaxial connection
 
Im from Mexico... using a new PS3 SLIM 160GB.. and setting manual DSN settings was the only thing that could make me go online on GT5 servers.
 
i had this too, i couldnt do any race or it would freeze. it would even freeze in the GT LIFE MEnu. and GTA IV worked great without freeze.

So what i did. i delected 3-5 cars quick as i started GT5, then saved game quick for not to freeze again. then i restated gt5 and now i have no problems. i know its strange about deleting cars of garage, but i though it could be the amount of the cars in the garage that makes the game freeze. i dont know.

The only thing i know, my game works fine now since 4 weeks now. and online too !

I can only confirm that going wired fully solved my problem.
I still must say that GT5 is the ONLY game that required me to have a wired connection, and I still think it's really annoying, but at the end of the day I like the game too much and I solved my problem this way

PD sort this out with a patch please!!!!

and, for the record, I am based in London - UK

Now your other games that you play online will be better, you'll see 👍

Strange issue though as I have run mine wireless and still had no problems. I'm on a slim ps3 and on my fat ps3 the wireless was not as good as the slim so that could be it.
 
My PS3 started doing that a few weeks back. It got worse, and I had to get a new slim PS3. Perhaps those old fat PS3's are starting to groan :)
 
Ahh when i leave an online lobby my game pretty much always freezes now!! anyone else get this? :(
 
GT5 is freezing 9 times out of 10 every time I enter Open lounge.. and now after this update GT5 disconnect me from online after every 2 -3 hours for no reason.

PS notice. I have no problems with PSN, with any PS3 game online, I have very good internet, router is settet up just right (Nat type 2) everyhig is fine in tha area.

just GT5 servers realy are SOOOOOOO Slow.. and GT5 online itself is very unfinished in connection quality area! and I do like this game, even after all its done to me!

EDIT: seasonal events, GTlife and all other stuff apart from online part (lol) works brilliant! well I lied! sometimes it takes time to load up friends and see theyre stuff like cars, drivers, % of game, messages etc. (have about 75+friends) but when I had 25 it was no difference!

I had exactly the same issue with NFS Shift. After a few mins I would get booted. I was 100% sure it was the EA Servers but I was wrong. The only solution at that time was to DMZ my PS3 but for some weird reason, other games like COD MW2 wouldn't even load the online lobby. Turned out I had a rubbish router/modem.
If you have a good router, you don't have to worry about any DNS, port-forwarding or DMZ crap. I had a NetComm and changed to a NetGear and have had no issues one bit.

I connect my PS3 via Wi-Fi and have NAT 2. Try at a relatives/friends house to see if they experience the same issue.
Oh forgot to mention, if you internet has been shaped/slowed down, your game will freeze up all the time.
