I remember watching that - i think it was either jeremey or Richard the Hamster at the race track laguna and they had a honda NSX and they compared it to GT4.

Yes, but GT4 was known as simulation only with N1 or N2 tyres, Jeremy used S2 or S3 and he didn't beat in game time of course. I hope this time GT will come with as much real cars as possible, can't stand SLR doing Nurburgring under 7 minutes etc.

As I remember, Jeremy was also using ASM and Traction Control when he did the GT lap of Laguna Seca... ? That makes it an arcade lap and not a sim lap.

I remember that Jeremy said that there are bumps on the real track and other stuff that isn't in GT4, so making GT4 not as realistic as PD and other people say it is. This is my opinion.

is this the appropiate place to 'bag out' Gran Turismo 4 for its flaws?

I think it's a brilliant idea, with the training in the real car it shouldn't be a problem. If the chosen one has surreal talent online but is rubbish in a real car then he/she wouldn't pass the IB licence and he/she would miss out on the 24hr Enduro, simple.

I really hope at the very least someone like that wins the competition.

It's going to be very sad if some 100lb guy who never goes outside and can barely see over the wheel wins, or maybe even worst, someone who does not even have a driver's license.

How do you propose such a person gets through stage 3, or the the latter example for that matter. You quite clearly haven't bothered to read up on this or you would have known such details, yet you still seem to be very vocal in complaining about the whole thing.

.
Nope, you're right.

Back on topic.

I still don't know what this GT academy exactly is.

My understanding, and opinion is that GT Academy is tournament for Gran Turismo players to prove what they can do on a race track.

And Sony/Nissan wan't only the very best of GT players across Europe.

I think this is a golden opportunity for us. Let's race!

Personally I can see why they went for a time trial as the frist eliminator - it can demonstrate those people who have basic speed. Its the only fair way to do this as any sort of online race would just degenerate into a punting contest which is my biggest frustration with the game. To an extent it doesnt matter if the guy behind you is faster, he is still behind you and it is his or her job to make a safe pass, which one the whole doesnt happen. I also note the points made about racing fast and being fast on a time attack type event to be completely different. It is possible to post a fast lap on time attack for one lap - but then try to keep that up for 50 laps, continuously, with other cars around. It just doesnt compare.

I have some real world racing experience (okay Karting) but it can be a very stressful place. I always remembered my heart racing away at about 200bpm (think the pre-start sequence in the movie 'Le Mans') before the starts, especially when I knew I was in for a close race or the final. The other thing that is very real is the risk of error. For example, most people get on the gas in the game regardless of a car in front of them. In real life you just wouldn't do this, you would wait for the car in front to do this first, which gives them a few yards and the ability to hold you off for the length of a straight, and if you did do it you would almost certainly get black flagged.

I cant remember where it was posted (but it has already been posted in another thread), but the fastest line round the track for a time attack is different to that for a race. If you brake and aim for a late apex when in a race, you are effectively 'leaving the door open' and you can be pretty sure that when you get to the apex, you will have another car on the inside of you as you haven't protected the corner. Driving a 'protective' (by that I mean minor adjustment to the racing line to prevent handing easy oppotunities to a following driver - not blocking) line can often mean that you can keep someone behind you who is two seconds a lap quicker.

Anyway. I will be entering, I dont know how I will do, but in the tuned Suzuki Cappucino on the Eiger track in the GT demo, I was usually ranking reasonably well, but I dont have any idea of how many people played that game compared to the GT prologue (then again I havent really tried time trialling on prologue). Either way, it will be fun. best of luck to everyone.

What is all this fuss about, I think it's a great idea. Who cares if it's a publicity stunt, aren't all competitions. We all know sim is nothing like real life but, thats the point giving someone a real life experience. If the winner's rubbish in a real car so what they won there prize and I'm sure they will still have an amazing time. Who's really gonna care if they come last. This is all about taking part not about winning or losing the final event. I will be taking part, sure i don't have a chance but, so what it's only a game.

Stevisiov.

I'm washing my hands clean of their blood. Those who agree with it and are hosting it will have blood on their hands if these drivers crash and hurt themselves or someone else

You just summed up motorsports :sly:
