GT5 Rooms are packed, should we worry?

I looked at the public lobbies in GT5 the other day and there were hundreds of different rooms open (obviously only 100 come up at a time). Lots of dirty and cops'n'robbers rooms but also lots of clean racing too. When I did a search for lobbies with SRF disabled it still came up with 47 rooms just in my region (uk). In GT6 that many never appear (maybe 3 or 4). Now considering GTPlanets GT5 threads are practically dead there are still a hell of a lot of people still playing and enjoying GT5 online (obviously we at GTP only represent a small proportion of online players).

I wonder if we are getting all available rooms shown or if PD are just giving a limited number of results (either on purpose or due to a bug). I understand that GT5 has possibly sold 4 times the number of games that GT6 (allowing for ? PSN sales).

If those GT6 results are indicative of the sparsity of public rooms then is it because all GTP events are only using friends only rooms? Are many people waiting for bug fixes, the community upgrades to see what we get? Are people still working through career mode first? I know that's something I have been more focussed on to try and enjoy career mode by giving myself a greater challenge in races and have also spent quite some time just trying out new cars in arcade mode while building up a collection. Personally I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of setting up a series through GTP until GT6 makes it easier for us.

I've noticed that too gt6 online has been a lamo experience so far, not that many rooms
Hopefully it will get fixed soon. I did set up my own room there that was better.
Been playing online on forza5 it's easier too get on and find races.

I'm not surprised, at least going by what Kaz said sometime ago. Pulling the plug on the servers in May should be a nice surprise for those unaware of it.

Finally, he shared a fascinating statistic, confirming that over “100,000 people log in every day” to play Gran Turismo 5 – a high level of long-term player engagement for a game nearing three years in age.

Are you sure it's not because you're searching globally on gt5 and nationally on gt6. Also, if you update the page 3 times, different lobbies show up. I find it really hard to find a room that suits me as well. I have never played online in gt5 because of all the updates, though.

When people "log in to play" GT5 or GT6 it can mean very different things: is this what happens when you turn the game on and have access to the PSN in order to get the "log in bonus" or is that when you enter the lobby and or seasonal section?

I'm very well aware of that fact. Still though, there are plenty of people who play it online on a daily basis.

Yes I have noticed it to, turned on GT5 a couple of times to have a peek online. Was pretty surprised to be honest.

I went back to Shuffle racing in GT5, GT6 online just isn't cutting it at the moment. I'll be Shuffling from 19:00 hours (GMT) tonight onwards. If you wanna join me, follow the link in my signature. 👍

Lower price + not the revolution most people hoped for = people play the old game. ;) Maybe.
Personally ... if I look for 500-550-600pp rooms GT6 has more than enough full rooms.

Given the negativity surrounding GT6's online play currently (I don't use online, just what I've read on here), I can't say I'm surprised that a lot of people would be playing GT5 online...at least until they fix all the GT6 online issues and introduce the communities/clubs features

Does anyone even read OP's anymore?:lol:

John's reason for posting is his concern over the paucity of rooms in GT6, it has nothing to do with GT5 still being popular, that's just the context for his post. The number of open lobbies is small in GT6, especially considering it's a brand new game. And I don't believe people are hiding in private rooms either. I regularly open a "friends only" tuning room and before I do, I check to see who is online on my friend's list and it's often nobody and many of my "friends" are people who are regular GTP posters you see here every day.

Pure speculation but I think GT5's terrible online experience combined with GT6's buggy launch and lack of any real improvement beyond a couple of more sort options has killed online racing in GT. You can't sort your searches in any meaningful ways beyond SRF, no matching, no leaderboards, no driver ratings. Instead online is a free for all crapshoot outside of private lobbies with your friends and unless they are online on a very regular basis or you join a league, you have nowhere to race.

The more casual players surely love GT5+SRF, because its so much arcade-ish and the cars are glued to the track, its very hard to spin.

Quite right Johnny.

Just one thing I discovered last night when trying to see friends rooms whether international or local. Pressing the triangle for update button multiple times eventually finds their rooms. Finally I found a friend's only room I knew was open but only after pressing update 13 times. That might be giving a false low sense of the number of players online.

I think PD only has a certain amount of time before people get tired of waiting for the updates and leave for other games. I even turn my PS4 on now and again and toy with the idea of starting a FIFA, NFS RIVALS, Assasins' Creed game. Then I turn it off and return to GT6......for now.

I've yet to have one good race online with GT6, can never find a room that looks good, & if I create one no-one joins. I think there's just alot more people that own a copy of GT5 then there is those with GT6 at this stage.

I haven't been in any public rooms online in 6 yet, I prefer to race with a group that i know, and can learn each others driving styles and such

Once PD releases the community features I have heard about (quick race, clubs, shuffle? etc.) GT6 will probably have more players online.

And some are probably playing GT5 online ("everyday I'm shuffling") while they can before the servers are shut.

I ain't sure , but honuestly i found it so much easier to find lobbies in GT5 ...

Streetcar 450-500-550pp on sport ( hard if possible ) no aids rooms we're popping up left and right , nowadays i spend more time looking for a lobby then actually racing ... All i come accross are 450pp on RS lobbies , starting to get annoying ....

Anybody who missed the cash money glitch faces a very daunting barrier of entry. I see many people on my friend list playing GT6 but have never ever seen them in an online lobby. They're probably grinding credits to get some decent cars.

I haven't logged into GT6 online in quite a while. I'm waiting for the community update supposedly coming at the end of February. At this point I do in fact have a better experience playing GT5 so I'm not surprised. I can join a shuffle room and know I'm in for a good time. With GT6 there are no shuffle rooms and it's a complete crap shoot if you're going into a good room or not.

Could it have something to do with the fact that online is locked at the very beginning of the game? That has kept me out of GT6 lobbies. I just don't bother with singleplayer racing games anymore, especially not the ones which assume that players have absolutely no clue how to master a real driving simulator.

I like that feature, personally I'd like to have the choice to lock lobbies to certain licenses. iRacing style.

Griefers would still exist, but the likelihood of a griefer getting into a room locked to holders of an S license only would be more remote. So they'd languish in the lower ranked lobbies where it'd be a lot less fun for them to cause hassle. Especially as all the lower licensed lobby would be populated exclusively by griefers.

I doubt PD is ever coming up with an iRacing driver rating any time soon so a license test doesn't sound like such a bad idea. However, I'd like to see a special license test or series of tests, specifically around online racing, like the WRS qualifying system. 2 or 3 different types of cars on 2 or 3 different tracks, run your best laps, submit, and based on your times you get one of say five online licenses. Hosts would then have the ability to restrict lobby access to any level of license they desire, or leave it open to anyone.

Outside of an actual iRacing style safety rating, speed is the best indicator of how clean a driver is. Usually the faster someone is, the cleaner they are, although it's far from guaranteed. You'd also be sorting drivers in you lobby so they are close to you in speed. If you're in the level 5 (slowest class) you might limit your lobby to level 5 or 4 to keep the competition tight. Level 1 or 2 drivers might do the same. For that reason alone it's worth doing in my books.

I can't really see PD taking it any further than this being that the game is obviously geared to casual video game players and not actual racers or people interested in racing.

In GT6 I find it very hard to find small endurance races now with around 550pp & tire restrictions... I remember on GT5 we had all that every day of the week... now I am lost on GT6 :( the game is awesome though... but what I see in the rooms is mostly drag racing with maxed out hp and very few road racing... I love drag racing.. but nobody drag race mild tuned cars in GT6 at all... I dont want to go un-realistic in the game and start maxing out the power of every single car that I have fine tune for road racing.

Here's what I know. Whenever someone moves from GT5 to GT6, they are overwhelmed by the difference in the physics and they say "screw this, I'm going back to 5". Funny how there are also so many people still playing GT5 with hang ups about realism, but when faced with more realistic physics that require more thoughtful driving, they just can't cope.

I think that when the servers go down, there will be a big migration. I for one have not looked back at GT5 and don't ever plan to.

I know few people, who simply don't want to buy GT6 yet, because they find it not enough innovative. GT5.2 nothing more. They're right i think, half of the announced features didn't made it to release date, 3 moths later still no new features. But instead we have lot of bugs, poor performance and dialed back graphics...

Too bad i let myself be fooled by hype, i bought GT6 in release day for full price, but now i think it was not worth the money i spend.
