GT5 Track Editor Thread

It's been suggested that a lot of the early screenshots we saw were mock-ups rather than real screens. While it's possible that the Gamestop videos are an old build, it's just as likely that they are a more recent, actual build and differ from the older screens because the older screens weren't "real".

Gamestop video menu does not show the one way/loop circuit type option, which was confirmed by Kaz at Gamescom. As is rain and night.
Therefore it's old, by logical conclusion.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this already (it's a long thread), but some kind of linkage to Google Maps would be pretty amazing.

As PD have started to create new features that involve linking the game to websites (such as the ability to upload a replay video to Youtube), it would seem feasible that you could somehow connect Google Maps to GT5's track editor and select sections of public road that GT could 'read' and roughly replicate. That would be amazing, and would also allow pretty much any race circuit in the world to be unofficially recreated too.

If they could do this via three dimensions i.e vary the height of terrain etc, it would be pretty much all you could ever want by way of circuits/raceways....

Wishfull thinking I think....[sigh]

I think we can add "dawn in Rome" to the list of themes. According to PSM3.

With what might almost be all the themes shown, it's starting to look like there might not be any generic city themes. There was some speculation in recent trailers that some of the night courses might have been created by the Course Maker.

Assuming all this track creator stuff is true a city theme creates issues. If that video is accurate it appears all the terrain in each theme can be paved. In other words, there isn't any area on the theme that the course creator can't randomly lay track on.

This creates infinite possibilities for tracks. To do it on a city circuit they would have to completely rewrite the code because the course creator couldn't randomly lay track out anywhere, it would have to follow roads already laid out through the city(unless you want a track that takes you through buildings). This wouldn't allow infinite possibilities as you would always have to follow different variations of the road already modeled. That and also this would require modeling every single city street by hand first, instead of making a single track template that the game creates and lays out.

Then again they could have always made an open area in a city or on the outskirts that allows a track to randomly be modeled there and possibly have a few streets going into the city area that can connected to the outside track.

There are no city themes, just one generic track type and the rest rally/country side style

The article above is just repeating what was said in behind doors breakout sessions at Gamescom/TGS.
Magazines are fast becoming irrelevant....

That is what we have seen in public screenshots, which do not necessarily represent what will be in the final build.

How did they come with the "Dawn in Rome" theme?
This is the first time I've read about it.

"Dawn in Rome" was probably Toscana or something just lifted off the top of their heads as an example, not literally meaning dawn in Rome

Except Rome and Toscana are in Italy...And you know Americanos , Mexico is what they call the whole of South and Central America.

What I am thinking is the Course Maker will not create any fixed pit areas, as this might pose problems on courses that are created that don't have enough straightaway to allow fixed structures. I can see other building structure that are auto-populated on a city themed course that don't serve any purpose, but the pit garages with pit in, pit out might pose a problem with the generator. Unless when selecting a city theme, the generate forces a straightaway.

The "road" themes like toscana, german spring etc probably will not have pitlanes and paddock because of their "real world road" nature, you dont see Pits in Rallies, you see Service areas, which seem to be present...

Other themes like the Eifel circuit theme, IMO WILL include pit and paddock areas because of the circuit nature behind them.

And I do not think we will see any City themes, unless they have devised some sort of system to Auto-gen the environment around the road layout so you dont have to "follow the streets"...doubt it tho

Id rather see an "open" SS City stage, where we can just drive around all connecting roads as we could in Tokyo Highway Battle. Not for the whole cartoonish NFS action but pure highway fun like in real life.

Yes! That would be great!

Some people just love to show how neglected their sense of humor is.

Its because MOST americans will call any Latin-American a Mexican and so in turn believe that all of Central and South America is actually called Mexico. Its a joke, but its also very real.

Don't make stupid jokes and then blame it on other people's sense of humor, eh. ;)

So what happened to this menu? I don't see it in the video...
I have a theory that the Gamestop videos are of a really old build... notice also there is no rain and night time icon, even though it's on the same theme. And the allowed time of day is different as well, as are all the button designs and placement

Probably why they removed it

Is it just me, or is this generated track quite awesome with these long, quick downhill bends?

This gives us an infinite amount of tracks: I like.
I don't even mind that much that we can't edit the track ourselves.

Well you can set it, point to point or circuit, adjust the number of sectors (7 max i think) and the number of corners per sector(max 10) plus the radius or sharpness of those corners as well as banking, the topography remains the same throughout the theme, but will vary depending where the track itself is layed on the map.

So we can have a 10km track with up to 70 corners. Which is roughly half the size of the Nordschliefe but can be completely different each time.

And i REALLY like the fact that its so quick, changing layouts can be randomized or quickly "slideled" into shape, and loading only takes 20 seconds.

The file size for the custom courses must be very small too, so we can store 1000's of them.:D:D:D

I just WISH we could control the width of the road, its MUCH too wide for a good tarmac rally, perfect as a driving road, too wide for nail biting rally.

Track Creator vid, using the generic Effiel (Nurburgring area) circuit theme 👍

Looks like 7 themes, pity the contrast washes out the text.
Noticed the Nurburg castle on the hill in the background :)

You can set time of day and weather too, in the vid, 6am to 6 pm, day, plus a night option, sun/rain

Track editor looks like it can create some epic tracks. Wonder if it can do figure 8 tracks like Midfield or Suzuka

Taking on consideration than he hasn't played in carrer mode yet, maybe more themes will be available with our progress into the game, its seems pretty awesome and this could help to fix the lack of tracks (I can see a lot of Spa recreations coming :P)

I don't see anywhere in the videos where you can set the banking. Is it in another menu no one showed or is it something else that got left out or cut out?

The vid CoolColJ posted above shows there's a slider for track width and Tekken used it in the vid as well. pretty neat

The layouts might turn out good, but what's outside of the road, at least from the video we've seen, looks very bland and unimpressive, as if the track was in the middle of nowhere.
I expected that and that's why I think that Course Maker tracks cannot replace original PD-made tracks, which look awesome.
