The layouts might turn out good, but what's outside of the road, at least from the video we've seen, looks very bland and unimpressive, as if the track was in the middle of nowhere.
I expected that and that's why I think that Course Maker tracks cannot replace original PD-made tracks, which look awesome.

Well it is to some extent, think Nurburgring :)

I can see the castle in the vid, but it is at 6pm, and the camera used doesn't have the best dynamic range
 
A few pages back showed up to 9 different layouts. The new course creator video shows only 7 and the last three are new pictures. Overall there could be at least 12 themes, hopefully you have to unlock more of them as you progress.
The video is too over exposed to make out the names except for Toscana Tarmac, Eifel Circuit, and Alaska Snow. I havnt seen anything yet on the snow course.

Looks like the tarmac races dont have an option for one-way, point to point tracks, only loops.

Good enough for cockpit or hood cam, if you can drive those twisty -5 Sharpness roads AND focus whats over the barrier then maybe you need a bit more stimulation than GT can offer you :lol:.

Banking angle was not present, maybe this was lost in translation as corner sharpness or corner complexity...

Still want to see the point to point and gravel stages with all -3 to -5 sharpness of corner.

But from what ive seen between sector 2 and 3 of the course maker clip, im stunnned.

These were the settings he entered.

And the Eifel had a WET option not rain, so no live rain only wet road is my guess...

This Course Maker might just be that box of tissues needed for the river I might cry over the loss of some of my favorite GT4 tracks. :)

@eieio i tihnk some of the tarmac themes DO, the ones that are 'driving roads' like Toscana(which im starting to believe has mixed surfaces) and belgian high fens , but in particular the Eifel and possibly the last one which looks like a karting venue are circuit themes and are by default looped because of the pit areas...

Gear changes are still unsynchronized.

The course maker is a fantastic addition to the game and one that I'm sure Turn 10 will be itching to imitate in Forza 4.

The fact we can create and share tracks which can be played online by everyone easily (assuming the online system is up to par) is truly fantastic.

Hopefully there is a point to point option available somehow though, because that would be ace.
 
Corner sharpness has a range of -5 to 5

What is the difference between -5 and 5?
The only thing I can think of, is the way the corner bends, opposites
 
Turning down the brightness/contrast on the video and going frame by frame, I can sorta make out some of the theme names

Toscana (tarmac)
E...something
L...something (gravel)
M...something
Alaska (snow)
Eiffel (circuit)

So what happened to Belgian High Fens?

I had a chance to study the video in Post #923. And before I begin, HELL YES the music is addictive! This is awesome lounge or chill style music that still hits the spot. You CAN have great menu music in the game without needing all songs to be screaming loud rock songs. Now on to more relevant material.

If you think about it, the themes are not that bad. We obviously know of the Eifel (circuit) and Toscana environments. Some of the other environments seem very suitable for almost any other kind of racing. One environment looks like a good locale for snow/ice racing. I sensed another circuit-type environment in there. I'm unsure, however, about the environment highlighted between 0:21 and 0:23. It doesn't seem like it, but that environment at the bottom may well be your temporary city/street circuit right there. It just has that feel going on context alone. City courses, though, can be very complex. It would be tough to make your own city course with a great level of distinction. These courses vary. What if you wanted to make your own New York, Tokyo, or Singapore style track? What if your city course idea is more about contemporary European cities? Or what if you wanted to make your own San Francisco-style course? The hope may be there to create such city courses. Or... it could be that contemporary, postmodern, permanent road course environment where you could make your own Yas Marina Circuit or something.

This makeshift course made in the video seems very interesting. Polyphony Digital likely thinks it would be tough to create absolutely unique courses. I have felt a bit disappointed about not trying to meticulously adjust the corners. Make no mistake about it- the whole execution of this deal is incredible. I made a video and a blog post regarding my whole thoughts on this Course Maker. I once questioned if I could take some of my own personal creations and try to re-create them (the layouts, at least) as best as I can. Judging on this video, that answer is "no" unless there's some future patch or something that will allow you much more refined detail of making courses.

It does seem wonderful. We'll need to see more courses with each of the environments, whether in videos and/or in pictures.

No idea but I wouldn't rely on journalists too much. ;)

It could be the L or M one if it's there.

The other E is likely Eifel (Road). There's a big windfarm in that region so it would make sense with all the turbines.

I've no idea how you're making these semi-visible, I can't see anything, but well done anyway!
 
I have one thing that Im wondering about.

When we generate the track it gives us the option of weather, wet or dry, but when we save our track do you think we will be able to change the conditions of the track? Because I doubt youll be able to bring up the generating screen again on a prevously created track, no?

You probably can, but need to set it up so it can be tested.
If not you could save one version and then save the other. :)
 
If there's a way to share circuits online, I'm thinking we're going to be ending up with a circuit design competition to go with the photo mode one.

Having another look at the video. Track width goes from -5 to 5 as well!

It could be related to the track width of the previous section. -5 would mean greatly narrows down from the previous section and 0 = stay the same?

Did you even watch it properly?

In sector 2 it is at -5, in sector it is at +5; it doesn't mean Sector 3 had the same as Sector 2 + 5. If it was the case, the road wouldn't have been wider in Sector 3.

Then why not logically put the values at 1-10 or something?
I mean zero would be the same as track default, so -5 is less than normal, and 5 would be greater than normal I suppose

That track he made was pretty long, he only went through 4 sections (of 7) in the video and that was around 2 mins in a 300hp race car.

The other 3 sectors were left default.

The course maker saves your values and can generate new layouts with the same criteria...
 
Then 5 isn't that wide then, I didn't feel any section was that wide, but maybe it wasn't in the video, since he stopped it halfway through

Anyway this will make a great resource for leagues for a long time to come.
Or share a track among friends and challange them all to beat your time

Well, then - track design competition it is. We'd all have to be friends to do it, and we'd probably need a bit of time on our hands. but it seems pretty straightforward: the winner picks the backdrop, whether the circuit is point-to-point or a closed loop, wet or dry, time of day, the number of sectors and anything else they can think of (ie one section must be super-narrow and super-twisty), then everyone posts a screencap or a link to their entry so all the interested parties can race on them, and Bob's your aunty.

You can adjust the time of day for the circuit, anywhere between 0600 hours and 1800 hours. I'm guessing the circuit is run in the winter if it's night at 1800 hours.

He didnt make it past sector 4, he entered it at 4:38 in his video, you can tell the track gets much wider, the -5 is barely enough for 2 cars and the +5 is about 3 or 4 cars wide.

There is proper night in the other themes, just not his one
 
Just me but I actually would've saved the one he raced on... it had some great sections... but then he generated another couple then saved...

1st one would've been named Eifel 001. Then I would've generated another edition... and saved it 002 if it was any good...
 
I am really looking forward to trying out this track generator. Should be able to come up with a lot of different combinations. I will definitely be creating a few of these very soon.

You accuse Americans of generalizing a geographical area, yet in doing that you are generalizing a huge group of people, which is honestly much more idiotic than not knowing or caring about where the Mexican borders reside. :dunce:
