There is no doubt that GT5 will be a huge seller. It may even beat the world record, which is held by MW2 I believe?

The game won't just appeal to gamers, it will also appeal to car enthusiasts... afterall, look at this forum, most members on here are car enthusiasts. There are also people who will buy GT5 due to it having Nascar and WRC. Also, don't forget the amount of parents buying it for their kids. There are also, of course, the average Joes who want GT5 for it's 'brag factor'. GT is Sony's biggest franchise and it will shift a boat load of PS3's, GT wheels, PS Eye's, PS Move's(?) and other GT branded items.

World record for all video games or PS3? PS3 yes MW2 currently has sold more copies over anyother PS3 title.

Best selling video game? Super Mario Bros. (unless you count WiiSports)

We should count in the cost to determine whether it is a commercial success or not. Is there anyone who knows the statistics? What is the expected revenue(from game sales & PS3 sales) and cost?

gt5p probably covered a big chunk of the costs, it sold and still sells very well and has probably really helped PD's finances in the long drought since TT.

Of course GT5 will be a huge seller.
Certainly because it's not only about gaming,
It's more about the car passion...
GT5 reaches a lot more people than just 'gamers'

Take into account that Gran Turismo games are not "one month" or "three month" wonder.

95% of video-games falls into above categories, where the sales they generate in their 90 days of market-presence are generally their final sales number.

Gran Turismo is one of the most unique franchises in the whole industry, with stabile sales all the way after initial release. Gran Turismo 4 generate substansial sales even today, as Platinum release for PS2 and same goes to GT5: Prologue.

It is very hard to predict the real success of GT5 and will it be able to beat stellar succes of GT3 A-Spec - mainly because overall hype for PlayStation 2 console and Gran Turismo 3's release in 2001 was much higher than it is for PS3 and GT5 today frankly speaking, and penetration of PS2 consoles was much higher than PS3 today - but there is no doubt that GT5 will probably be the top-selling first-party PS3 game so far, and probably all untill the PS4 release.

Only AAA third-party franchises such as Call of Duty or GTA can generate more intrest of PS3 owners on global scale than Gran Turismo.

There are unbleivable amount of consumers who are waiting release of GT5 in order to purchase their PS3 for the first time. In our GTSurgeons cummunity we have many members who are saving their funds for GT5 release and they will buy console just for GT5.

GT5 will sell in many millions and you also have to take into concern that GT5 will probably be the first game that will get enormous marketing push by car-mainstream media worldwide because in last 5 years Polyphony and Kazunori got great attention of great amount of press which is not game-relasted but car-related.

True, Forza did the same, partnering with Jalopnik and got so much attention from the media that petrolheads buy the game without even watching a decent video review.

The truth is, PD was always more focused in building relationships with the auto industry, this happened even when GT4 launched, but now, there is the upcoming Top Gear test track, which opens a lot of room for new customers and lovers of the most downloaded show in the web, and this will reflect directly on sales figures.

Probably over 2 million in pre orders alone, with an official WRC,Nascar and Super GT licenses i could see it outselling GT3 seeing as it should appeal to more people. Not to mention the inclusion of more exotic cars and partnerships with Mercedes, Top Gear and Nissan.

Agree, and this also shows they can actually release it at any time since it's not reliant on hype before the holiday season since it's a long term title with consistent sales over a long period with some peaks during those holiday seasons perhaps.
In short, people who are aware GT5 will arrive ( gamers/petrolheads who've already experienced previous GT's ) will probably buy it during its lifespan and the main reason to release it before or during a holiday season and create some hype through advertising, etc. is to lure newcomers or a new generation of gamers not aware of GT.

It is true that it appeals to a more wide audience, and 2 million in pre-orders certainly is possible :)

Triple-A or AAA is nothing more than a battery for my TV remote. :indiff:

As far as I know, this game will sell. It won't match Halo, Madden or MW2. But the game will sell exceeding their $60,000,000 budget. Talk about box office hits...:dunce:

I don't think it will break a record. I have to say this because this game doesn"t have the broad view of MW2. Now, granted, I never played MW2, but it is in almost any household with a video game console.

GT5 will come close though. I hope it breaks a record.
