GT5's disgusting choice of music

Honestly, I don't really mind the music for GT5 (or any GT game). The in-game race soundtrack is always nice and mixed with generally good picks for racing.

The menu music changes with every game, but generally the current lounge/jazz music with some classical mixed in is ok for me. I don't really know what good menu music for a driving game is, I mean it really depends on the mood and style of the game. If we were talking Ridge Racer, some fast-paced and twangy 90s bass rave stuff is perfect, for NFS Underground rap and hip-hop, etc. I think its quite fitting that GT is a slower-paced game and hence features slower paced menu music.

Its also nice to have the distinction of menus with slower music and racing with faster paced pop music.

At the end of the day though, its all a taste thing really because music is one the most subjective forms of media ever. Digusting is quite a strong word, I'm surprised anyone is "disgusted" by it :lol:. I think I'd be disgusted if they turned around with GT6 and featured only black metal, and I'm a fan of Emperor!

I also echo the "the lift music is kind of charming" comments - you know you are playing Gran Turismo if you hear lift music!

Also, the music in GT is a welcome break from the very stereotypical orchestral or rock soundtracks found in pretty much every other game out there.
 
The menu music is what gives Gran Turismo its charm.
It's trying to convey an atmosphere of class, not some underground 1,000+ BHP Civic race event with 15 million subwoofers rumbling the ground you're staying on.

I will however say that the songs before/after a race, Repair Service and UCD get incredibly irritating after a while, since it's always the same ol', same ol'.
 
Ardius, I totally agree with you. And with many others.

The thing about the music in GT5 can be hilarious.

I mean, it's always about style and elegance. And racing. And having fun. And enjoying your cars not only with the game itself but with the music in the previews of the race too.
At least it is the way I feel about it.

Winter Dreams, Dark Line, Current of the times, Rain and lady's heart, Solitude, Tracks of dream or Sunset Haze just to name a few, are GREAT examples of how the music has evolved in the series for me...
I know, this tracks are too much relaxed, but the rock, jazz, chill out and lounge music aspect are GREAT too.

GT5P has something so... I don't know, every GT game has something with the music and the game itself. About driving so fast on the evening of Sunday that everything around you become slow.

Sunset Haze it's my WAKE UP ringtone btw :)

Any way, you can always put your own MP3 if you want to.

The biggest downside is not be able to listen to my own list when im online and the voice chat is on.

First GT game huh? Sorry they don't blare screamo and gangster rap at you, and I hope they never do. The menu music is something that gives the series its charm and character.

But you know what's great about the series? Ever since 3, you've been able to chose what music you want to play during races. And now in 5, you can choose what music you want to play all the time. From the GT life screen, click on the button that is a musical note. Now press triangle on a song, and you can chose whether it plays during races, menus, slideshows, or never. WOW! The little things that reading the manual would've told you.

Oh, and yeah you can also use music off the PS3's hard drive in menus too. Again, reading the manual would've helped.

Everyone's talking about "The Entertainer" being a poor song for GT Auto in GT5. I'm not any ragtime fanatic, but that's a very good song. It's catchy and fun. And as I noted earlier, it really fits the lighthearted mood of GT Auto in GT5. The GT Auto theme from GT3 would be a better fit if this song wasn't selected for GT Auto in GT5.

Oh, and another thing... I even have "The Entertainer" as a song on my ancient cell phone. I'm reminded of that song everytime I hear it played in GT5.
 
I think GT5s choice of music is pretty good, much better then previous GT games.

Few songs which should return:

"Flow","Survivor" and the online lobby music in GT5P!
btw: I downloaded a sound compilation of a Ferrari F1 V12 from youtube and now its played in GT5 in the menu. I wish I could set it as the BGM in online lobbys or in the tuning section (not the tuning shop).

GT3's music is absolutely perfect.

Who picked the music for GT5? And it's not the songs that you can change, it's the menu music (UCD, pre-race screen, buying car music, finish race music, NCD music). The music is so bad it makes me not even want to do the things I listed above.

Anyone else feel this way?

You are wrong about questioning their selection, your opinion of what music should of been playing probably doesn't fit within the style and themes brought forwards in the menus. Your entitled to not like them but saying they are the wrong choice is incorrect.

Relaxed, Modern and slow tempo for the main menus. A little excitement in the car dealership and a cheeky chappy sort-of song in the UCD. All of which are the tones given from the soundtrack, all of which have been the themes made stronger by the game's evolution from driving video game to car enthusiast entertainment with a more mature tone in recent releases.
 
I don't quite mind the GT5 music, especialy Day to Live that new song it's quite good. And also that song with the nice bass lines I can't remember what its called off the top of my head tho...
 
GT5 music is spot on in my opinion. It appeals to a large audience and therefor has a very neutral music selection.

So I couldn't disagree more with the OP.

You did read the OP's post right? He's talking about the music you can't change. Like GT Auto, UCD and OCD music, etc. The music you can't change.

Love GTs menu music, sets a tone that is different from any other game.
 
I've never had a problem with music in any GT. I think GT5 music follows the trend of past GT's flawlessly.
