In my opinion, the BGM selection was rather good when it started out (Cubanate FTW), and got better until hitting its peak in GT3, when Daiki Kasho began working with PD and created some truly awesome racing tunes. GT4 was when I felt it began declining (Seriously, who wants to race to swing music? Unnecessary PD.) GT5's wasn't so bad for me, but somehow it hit the absolute nadir with GT6 and that is what caused me to replace nearly all the BGM tracks with my own.

Of course, I just turned the music off :P might bring back my own tunes though.

I've tried racing without music.... I gotta have tunes :)

If we bring it back to the OP, this thread is almost meaningless, as it's so many varying opinions that don't mean anything. 'Good music' is not something that can be put down definitively. I, for example, think the GT6 soundtrack is just as good as any other GT soundtrack. I do stand by what I said about primary demographics, as a game released in 2014 that is a weird blend of current music, up and coming music and 20 year old stuff won't really be appealing to all the 16 year olds who will want to buy the game. The GT series has some sort of a niche problem, as it has a cult fanbase of generally more mature people, meaning generally older music. That means PD must somehow strike a balance of making it sound like it's from 2014, but not just having a list of hardcore DnB and dubstep, which I think they've done a good job of in GT6 - a good example would be Depeche Mode. I doubt a lot, if any GT6 players under 18 will have heard of them, but the Feed Me remix gives it a sound which doesn't bore/annoy the kids.

Let me test my understanding... do you believe that the soundtracks of prior GTs DIDNT pander to the proper demographic because they had older music?

No, they've always struck a decent balance. I was merely picking GT6 as an example. I was trying to say they have a kind of niche problem with soundtracks.

Ok, I think I'm on the same page now.

So perhaps the best solution would simply be to have a more robust function for installing your own BGM and perhaps play down their own indigenous music choices.

I think they can keep their own music choices, just give us the chance to delete it if we choose. It all comes down to musical preferences again.

F-Buttons and Wooden Shijps are way cool! Good find, PD!

I always wonder how they find very obscure music that works very well on GT games.

I suppose it's not fitting to ask whether anyone has a link to the complete bgm track listing in GT6? I mean, since the music sucks so much and all... :D

I totally agree with this post! GT3 OST was pretty awesome but now since GT5 first thing i do is turn off the music as well. I then listen with to whatever i want including the old faves from GT1-GT3... Daiki Kasho - Obscure, Foo Fighters - My Hero, GT1 - Race Preperations Menu Tune etc. but i listen to those on my cell with headphone earbuds. while my tv is cranked up; best of both worlds! I also have a seprate pair of dj headphones i use when i hook them to the tv; then i put those over my earbuds for extreme immersion but i digress lol yall should give that a shot!

As long as Daiki Kasho continues to make more songs, then I don't really have a problem with the soundtrack. GT5's soundtrack was pretty disappointing, but GT6's turned out to better. 15 Daiki Kasho songs for the win.

No ta. As a musician i value my hearing.

I actually use a Logitech wireless headset that supports audio chat. Has separate volume controls for chat and game audio and cancels all "outside" noise. Talk about a fully immersing audio experience... you can even tell which of your tires is squealing with that new 3D sound engine. This way, earbuds underneath the big headset are obsolete for me.
