My game freezes and crashes EVERY time I play it. so far, that's every day. It usually freezes while in the dealership and loading the car selection. Many times, the car image doesn't load and the background is blank. No buttons work and I need to force shut down my PS3. Then, every time I restart the system, it goes into recovery mode. This is getting very annoying.

Update:
I have been streaming a PS3 MP3 playlist into the game, opting out for the lackluster soundtrack. It appears that if I use the custom Menu BGM , the game crashes constantly in the menu areas. I set the BGM back to original setting and I've had no problems so far. I hope a patch can fix this very soon. Possibly a memory buffer problem?

freezes 1second at start of almost every race when you have USER BGM ...
some people had the same issue on some other forum

I have no idea what that poll is supposed to be elucidating.

I've had the game since a couple of days after launch. Had one freeze during the 1.02 update install, resumed just fine. Had two freezes trying to do seasonal events last week (both on the second time of asking; first seasonal went fine, froze after loading the second).

Nothing else before or since, but then I've not touched seasonals or online much (created my own room a few times with no hiccups). I had been using custom menu music, but can't remember if I switched it off before or after that.

4-year-old CECH-2003B unmodified, wireless connection.

I got my copy a few days after release, it froze once and needed to file check. I attributed it to my ancient fat boy ps3. This was last week so I had a decent game save I was nervous I was going to lose. But it loaded back up and has been running good since. Fingers crossed, but I have a feeling this may be what kills my faithful ps3.

I've had a couple of freezes so far on my Fat Boy 80gb PS3, and it seems like it's when I try to race with the Karts. Every time it does a file check after the triple beep. So far, so good as I've not lost any of my game info, but kind of leery to try the Karts until after a new patch/update.

Cheers

GT5 had the same issue, constantly freezing if a custom BGM was used. Seems that 6 is no different.

That might explain why I've been having freezing issues. I always use personal BGM. I can't help it. I HATE the music in the gt series. I guess I better either start using a stereo or gamble on it freezing...

Heh I wonder if the OP intentionally put that trick question in there to out all the fanboys or the haters. Sad that we can't have honest responders though.

I wouldn't say it freezes, it just shuts off and beeps 3 times. It happens anytime I try to race online. I can race online for about 10-15 minutes and then the screen turns black and it shuts off and beeps 3 times. I haven't been able to finish one online race yet. This happens offline too but rarely. Usually when I'm in the garage menu or the parts and paint menus. I'm using my original 60gb ps3 that I've had since about '07. This has never happened to my brother yet, he has 120gb slim. I don't know what's the deal but this needs to be fixed.

Most of my freezes were update related, So I wouldn't assume that it has "froze" on me while it does studder on replays but nothing that killed or froze it completely.

I usually game for about 1 -3 hours a day, and I usually get a freeze once every 2 weeks. (PS3 500GB Super Slim)

It always happens when leaving a race and returning back to the menu and has never happened anywhere else. (Single player)

The screen goes to that dark grey looking colour and just loads forever and sometimes I'm still able to use the PS guide button. But If I select to quit game, the PS3 does the triple beep and fully restarts and then begins to restore.

yep
that's freezing
Actually I would not say that is freezing. Freezing is when the game hangs on a screen and will not accept any input forcing you to either use the quit came option or power off the PS3.

If it shuts down with the 3 beeps that is not freezing, it is crashing. There is a difference

This poll while titled failure rate does not indicate a failure rate, just shows that some people have experienced at least 1 freeze or crash and others have not.

In order to have any kind of rate we would need to know how many times it fails compared to how much it is used. Pretty much all software will hang or crash from time to time given the right conditions.

After a month of 24-7 usage ,got 2 resets/freeze while updating and one freeze while loading leaderboard replay. There were also 2 instances when game refused to load any car into race - just empty prerace menu:D , but that was quickly solved by rebooting GT. Other than that it works perfect > Slim120+bluray GT

Frozen for the first time for me, having a blast driving the 2000 Ford Falcon XR8 around Bathurst, just approching 15 minutes before it just stopped. I have about 80 hours track time though, so one freeze in all time is quite impressive.

I've had my copy of GT6 since launch, and since then, I've had freezing on the "WARNING:" screen during start up about 8-9 times. It does it randomly, but I know when it stays on that screen for more than a few seconds, it's froze. Quiting the games causes the PS3 to beep 3 times and shutdown. Then of course the file check thing. What should be a quick start up, turns into a 15-20 minute aggravation.

Also, I've never had trouble with any of the updates.

I have a 160gb slim.

It's crashing whenever I go to the dealership to buy a car.
Everthing is fine until I try to view a car to purchase, then the sound disappears, car doesn't show up, but the rest of the screen is as normal.
When I try to go out to the menu there is only a black screen and sometimes it freezes, but I always have reset the PS3.
So far it's only the Nissan dealership.
But this has never happened before and my disc is in perfect condition.
I've viewed cars successfully at Nissan before.
Is it a 1.06 fault or do I have to get another GT6 disc?

I'm not using custom BGM either.

Any help will be appreciated as GT6 is unplayable for me at the moment.

The game doesn't just load off the BluRay; it caches to your harddrive also - that cache has a habit of getting corrupt, with many strange results. The first thing I'd try is clearing the cache in the in-game options. Should be under data files or similar.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to export all your replays and photos etc. and delete the game data via the XMB and re-install and update - that will take a while. Before that, it might be worth seeing if you can force the PS3 into "recovering" the hard-drive and seeing if that makes a difference. If you're getting corruption due to dying sectors, that recovery tool might help the filesystem / drive ignore the dead bits - the long term fix is to replace the drive, if that is the case. It helped me get back a load of downloaded games that mysteriously disappeared from the XMB after a dirty shutdown once.

I was a little confused as to which option to pick

I've had the game since release...but it definitely froze up on me within the first two weeks of playing it.

And it still freezes up on me....I'd say one to two times a week on average (usually playing 5, 6, 7 days per week)

Thank you very much !!
Clearing the cache worked.
Now I can finally buy a Nissan Skyline for the seasonal.

I have had trouble at my favorite track ever since that update - I don't think I have cleared my cache since the update. I will try that now.

Oh, Mt. Panorama.

My game freezes on my now & then & I find it very annoying. Usually after 3 beeps from the Play Station 3 & a data recovery if needed my games fine after that.
