Ok, here we go.

While racing we would still want a button to cycle through the basic views, though adding the much-desired Hood View to that cycle is a must.

Now, let's take this thing further and make it right.

Hit the Pause button during a race (or go to the tuning screen pre-race) and we should have some serious options here:

Aspect Ratio: standard, widescreen, superwide, etc..
Full Field Of View angle settings: x° - x°
Motion Blur: Off/Low/Med/High (possibly not needed with proper FOV)
Head Shake: Off/Low/Med/High
Head Turn: Off/Low/Med/High (looking towards apex)
Chase Inertia: Off/Tight/Loose
Chase Tilt: Off/Tight/Loose

-View-
Bumper
Hood
(adjustable front/back, height up/down, aim up/down in pause menu)
Roof (adjustable front/back, height up/down, aim up/down ............"........... )
Chase (adjustable close/far, height up/down, aim up/down ............"...........)
-Chase cam needs the option to assign a d-pad/joystick to rotate around the car during gameplay and/or replays.

Cockpit -with sliders to fully adjust height up/down, seat forward/back, aim left/right/up/down. Combine these with the right Aspect Ratio/FOV to get the perfect view from the cockpit. It would be nice to be able to add or remove the wheel, arms/hands, and helmet all separately like professional simulators.
*placement and style of Rear-view mirror should be an option. (see post# 119 )
*full layout of HUD items should be an option, as well.

*Saving these view settings for each car in the tuning section would really boost the customization level.
*Deleting/Re-adding views from the 'cycle' would be a convenient option, in case there are a couple you never use. That wonky Rooftop view would be the first to go around here.

I can add to this list if anyone has some good ideas / solutions in future posts.

This would be very nice to have. Possibly a bit tedious to get your ideal driving position perfectly but once you have it, you'll never have to change it again. I would very much welcome something like this. The only point which is questionable(to me at least) is the motion blur aspect. It should be as accurately to what you experience IRL as possible. Unless you're on drugs or something I really don't notice different levels on motion blur in my life.

How often do you travel at 160mph? The sense of speed in GT5 is just not there. Off would be what we have now, High would be akin to NFS Shift, and Low/Med settings should be able to give a very subtle blurring so we can feel that speed- which is exciting, no doubt.

Subtlety is key, in this case. I certainly would not want hyperspeed blurring like NFS Shift, but I would bet that a few of you crazies would love that.

I would be happy if the game remembered which view I chose and kept it instead of defaulting to bumper with each new load of the game.

I do think that increased view options from within a pause menu would be better than needing to drop back to the main menu. The DS4's touch screen should be perfect for those kind of tertiary options when it comes out. Of course, with GT6 looking likely for PS3 I'd hope that this still could be possible.

It would be nice to have these options. In some games the cockpit view was forward so you could see out the window better but some complained that they felt like an old lady leaned over clutching the wheel. In other games the cockpit view was farther back but some complained that all they saw was cockpit and couldn't see out the window. With options like these, they could get just the fit they want and everybody wins.

I like this idea, however for chase views I would add up/down as well. I was playing GT3 last week and the chase camera was too low and too close to the car and it took up what felt like 1/3rd of the screen, it was awful.

Forza also has a view where you can circle around the car, which would be nice to admire the aesthetics with. Often I don't waste time with replays so I don't really get to admire any car I drive in action as much as I would like.

I would love an option te set the seat further back into the cockpit. Some cars in GT5 have really anoying views wich totally block you side view

*added. good call.

Anybody else have ideas for the racing views and associated immersion to go with it?

I really hope PD adds this in Gt6

Yes, that is exactly what we need. Another option for cockpit mode would be whether to put the rear view mirror in the view no matter how you have adjusted the driving position. It should be possible to put it back to the genuine position for the ultra realists

I definitely would like to see a hood view, adjustable would be great but even if not adjustable would be ok. On the cockpit it you could adjust it to where the view was all the way forward to the windscreen that would be cool as well.

It just seems wierd driving in cockpit view. Consider that I am using a wheel and the TV is about 3-4 feet from the wheel then on the tv is another wheel and the dash its like I am sitting in the back seat.

This is exactly what I proposed for GT5, except I had four locations. Either Bumper or Hood could be moved around to be Hood view, I think my choice was Bumper cam. I also proposed that views could be deleted, in case you'd never use Bumper or Chase view for instance, though they could be re-added in the Options Menu. In addition, I thought it would be a good idea that you could edit and use settings saved to your car. So that maybe you'd want to lay back in your Lamborghini in Cockpit View but have your head up high and closer to the front in the BMW for instance.

^ added. Nice calls.

I also added 'Chase Tilt' after watching a replay at Daytona and noticing how chase cam stays flat with the horizon even when the road is severely banked.

Were you gone for a while? ;) Regardless, this is a good thread and I'm glad you bumped it.

Since your list is so comprehensive, I might bring something up. There is a difference between head shake and car shake. And the reason I bring this up is because a few people mentioned that the mild vibrations in the NASCAR cars, I think, caused them to have motion sickness. It seems that after an update sometime, it was reduced quite a bit. When I updated Forza 4, the car vibrations in-cockpit were less too.

In real life, you tend to shake with the car (head shake), which causes the whole field of view to judder. But in a game, this seems to cause the most trouble to the motion afflicted because the gaming position is rock solid. It seems that most games just shake the car (car shake of course), and a few if I'm recalling right, would vibrate the scenery a bit too (something in-between). I'm wondering if this should be a consideration. How do the latest PC sims like iRacing and rFactor 2 handle this? Or do they have options like this?

Hey everybody.
Since many people including me really request a adjustable FOV for GT6 I show you here why, and the advantages.

First of all myself and many others feel the FOV in GT5 is too narrow. It kills the overall view in Cockpit and on the other hand the sense of speed. As far as I know the FOV in GT5 is about right. But through a single monitor it's too narrow and makes only sense the way it is with a triple set up. Most of us don't own 3 PS3's and even 3 TV's or monitors, it's really hard to get a chance to improve our GT experience. When I tried PC sims I had the great advantage to set the degree of the FOV as I wanted. This way it easy and done in a few seconds to my pleasure. Such an option would be easily included into GT6. I go even as far that I would say that PD could add it to the quick menu when pressing Pause where also all the other options are such as Trackmap size etc.

The current FOV of GT5/6 is set to 55°. Just a small change does a huge improvement. The FOV Set to 59° changes first of all the overall view you have in the cockpit. And it improves the sense of speed without creating a annoying fish eye effect.

I hope PD will deliver us an option to adjust it. Or set it a little wider.

Here some examples I archieved changing the FOV in GT5 from 55° to 59°.

Yeah an options for FOV would be nice. They have 3 option ATM in cockpit view in GT5. I would like to also adjust height little bit. They have fixed the paddle shift animations from what I have seen. So that is good :)

Yep you have 3 options but only to get narrower now further back. Height would be nice aswell I second that.

Actually you need to narrow the field of view in order to make it realistic. On my pc setup I sit with my eyes approximately 26 inches from a 27" monitor. This yields a horizontal FOV of 44.7 degrees. If you want to widen your field of view to 59 or more degrees, while maintaining realism with a single monitor, you need to be sitting close to a very large monitor. Enough so that pixelation becomes an issue even at 1080p.

"This is something that we are looking at and it is possible in the future. Maybe. Possibly. We are thinking about this. Hypothetically." (laughs)

sitting close to the TV and having a narrow FOV kills the sense of speed completely you almost feel like not moving, and thats exactly what I dont want. Thats why I widen my FOV in GT5 to 59°

where/how are you guys widening your FOV? Is it in the multiscreen options, and it works even for one screen?
