How

How's Centreparcs? I've enjoyed you being away so that I could be above you in the daily B leader board for a few days

Yeah it’s all good mate! You can enjoy probably all week because I intend to catch up on race A and try to improve there but I may now take the gauntlet and do a few of B, but you may well be quite safe 😁

I'm officially cursed in the Golf GTi...

"Many times the bridesmaid, never the bride" comes to mind.

I've posted a few P2s, a handful of podiums, but the story has generally been the same.

Stuck behind a stubborn Q1 with an otherworldly quali time, and end up getting swallowed up in the fight for 2nd, OR just about sneak my nose in front only to get 'nudged' politely into a barrier at the earliest opportunity by some (frequently the same) salty ranking-obsessive.

Hilariously, the only time I had a clear run to the win, I found myself far out in front, heading into the sunset and I got a disconnection 20 seconds away from glory (I've only suffered a mid race d/c about 3 times in 5 years before now).

I think the universe is trying to tell me something.

My plan is to get back and to stick a time in the 42s down, these days I couldn’t care for wins (I have enough already😁) but u do hope there is some good racing as I want to cement my A rank and feel this could help, it certainly won’t won’t if folk are brake testing, wall crushing or side swiping, that’ll be annoying.

Also isn’t it about today we normally can see next weeks races already? 🤔

It’s usually half way through Friday we get them posted I think mate.

Let’s get that A cemented for the push to A+ 🙌🙌🙌

Laguna is a great circuit and world known, actually the one great track from America which I am dying to see here is Road America, Lime rock too. But I guess we all have our tracks which we don’t like or can’t get on with, mine is Fuji, detest it.

Hopefully the next game has some world alternative tracks added

I went to Road America for the IMSA race a few years ago. What a track. Had a hot lap in a fast Lexus before the race. Just epic. And walking around the track us like being in a national park. People camping everywhere. The little town nearby is fun too. You can drive around the old street course which RA replaced.

Lime Rock is on my list too!

@Gurzu - thanks for posting that! Such a great track. Standing on the hill you can see the cars flying down the corkscrew, and on the other side hitting 180mph on the front straight. Club track it’s not!

As for passing at Laguna, a few years ago (‘22 or ‘23), Newgarden made two passes going into the corkscrew (without going off on the exit like Zanardi) in the Indy Car race. You can also see passes into T11 (last turn), and into the Andretti hairpin.

@brockie

Don't get me wrong, the racing has been very fun for the most part but it seems silly to watch P1 drive into the distance (or just plain block your overtake) rather than have a good honest race of it.

I'm like you, I have as much fun fighting for P12 as I am fighting for P1 (which is exceedingly rare!). What doesn't add up to me is those folks who like to have a quali time that they can brag about, but have no intention of actually sparring head to head on the racetrack, fairly and cleanly.

If I may gentlemen, offer a couple of thoughts.

Firstly racing is racing regardless of QT, lobby, DR or splits.

That’s why we really show up, it’s not to win but it’s to be in a room it’s possible sometimes.

On the QT racecraft thing I don’t have a lot to say other than I was at some points very fast and very inconsistent and either getting used to a wheel or then VR everyone’s on a different stage of the journey.

And lastly let’s not forget the fun is in the battles, running away for 5 races and then put in a quicker lobby always smarts quite a bit

My point is Glen, that in the case of this week's particular Race A, if and when I've been starting to pull a gap from P3 and im looking forward to that "fun battle" (which in this case would be a battle of wits, lasting up until the final lap), I'm getting denied the pleasure MOST OF THE TIME because simply having an overspeed heading onto a straight is deemed illegal by my would-be adversary.

I want to have race run its course, and see who blinks first, who cracks under the pressure and makes that late small error. I don't want to be punished because someone's ego doesn't allow even one position swap. It's basically akin to them throwing in the towel and admitting that they're not up for the contest.

And there's no hope of anyone, them or you, getting switched into a different lobby, so it stagnates.

No I understand that, but all I’m saying is more game theory mindset. If you win great, if you have fun great, but play to stay in the game.

I get massively frustrated so not going to preach from a pulpit and decree absolutes but I’ve started to think about it more like blackjack in that you can only play to the house odds.

Being real though, A is one of those quirky ones this week where you are really fast and then the lobbies split to A+ farmers or A specialist and then you have a combo where passing literally is almost impossible to do when the pace consistency rises.

I don’t have much more than it’s a clumsy race and annoying, just watching @Tidgney

Race guide again even in Monday morning top split it was awkward and chaotic

Anyone getting issues with the new Porsche not loading in GT Auto/Freezing the screen if you put oil in before it's loaded?

It's only that car causing the issue for me for some reason

I think you're being overly charitable to the players I've encountered.

There's a difference between accepting a kooky ecosystem and exploiting one.

That’s fair, but I can’t or you can’t fix that so all you can do is be frustrated but enjoy the races.

Or not enjoy them.

I think something needs to be said generally for the forum is winning is to be celebrated but a good 3-16th race is just a good as a win.

I know the sorts of lobbies you are in mate and you just have to laugh or cry. In those situations I skip a session for QT as you get reshuffled most of the time and that helps.

But being candid with the new physics with the dunlops all of the racing is closer at the moment and the margins aren’t what we would have had before. So that in mind we can except their are sweaty people, that 2nd is a positive DR result and it’s always going to be like this and pace or control is the only escape to where you need to be

I couldn't have said it better myself really.

I am enjoying the racing, DR and positions don't concern me in the slightest. It was more a throwaway comment that I definitely should have a win (whether that matters or not) by now, and the only reasons that I don't aren't motorsports reasons.

I try to do my very best to get back to DR-A, only to find myself in utterly BRUTAL A/A+ split rooms and wishing I was back in with the B peeps. Rinse and repeat.
haha I had this for C/B for a while but feel like I've managed to get myself solidly into B now.

At the top of B does it get quicker than say where I am at 17k DR? Or is everyone mixed together based on SR? I'm trying to work out how the matchmaking works and where my plateau in terms of pace will be as at the moment my 1.40.3xx is having me P1-P4 in the lobbies I find myself in.

Last weekend I did 5 races at DF to see how I could cope after almost 4 months of "absence". I need to say that I (somhow) found peace. I was stupidly punted 3 times when 1st or 2nd by guys 1.5 s far behind. My reaction was always: "Okay, nevermind". No rage, no regrett, no nothing, just bring it to the finish line as best as you can enjoying the ride. I then focused on myself only, my drive and my mistakes without taking care of whatever others were doing. At the end of the session my DR was ar 900 pts lower. I couldn't care less. I really feel now in a way better place than some months ago.
Enjoy your racing weekend, everyone.

Edit: @Stringerbell in high B you need to get your QT lower by at least 0.5 s to be safe. Mixed A/B lobbies are btw the most "dangerous" cause filled with desperados. 😉

Good to hear you're back racing, hopefully more regularly now?

.5 seconds? ok I will stay where I am then

Yep, I will race more and more cause my beloved tendonitis is almost gone. So it will be Kyoto Gardens all weekend. Hoping to be able to get down to a solid low '39 ('39.6 at the moment). For Tokyo I'll just try to go down to a mid-low '42 if possible, but I don't see myself racing there anyway. Laguna Seca is a radioactive site for me, so I'll stay quite far from any activities there also.

I’ve had a few guys at Laguna, finding it nigh on impossible!!

Is 39.6 sticking you out at pole at gardens?
