Is it right that the thin strip of concrete only starts about half way down so you can go wide at the start and then pull it back in?
In that case you seem to able to go a long way off track, and for almost the whole length of the straight without getting a penalty - see below, wide exit from the corner, stays wide and re-enters the track almost at the end of the straight:-

He must have a different game as I just picked up about 7 hours worth of penalties on my last race 😂

Maybe if you go a bit over it registered but if you go extreme it glitches?

That's a cracking time there mate, I'm going to have to win a few more races to get back into A if I want to see you in a lobby again!!!

Have you noticed less of a DR gain? I got a win last night and it was about 400DR instead of the usual 600/700? Assume this is simply down to there being 4 less cars to gain Dr from? I think I've answered my own question there to be fair 🤦‍♂️
Stringer, I think it is the thin strip of concrete that the Aliens use. Ill never be that accurate and would probably get penalised every time. 😩 🤠

Looks like I have opened a can of worms here. I'm sure 1 of the more 'experienced' members will clarify this for us. On Tidgney's weekly video for the Daily races he does mention the thin strip, if that helps. 🤠

Mate, I believe it's that really thin piece you are on with your front right in the last picture not the whole of the run off to the left!! 😳🫣🤠

Did you happen to see if they lifted slightly to negate the advantage?

I'll let you try it, seeing as you've had plenty of practice at getting penalties! 😂

It's not me, it's the guy who was chasing me - as you can see he went really wide of the concrete strip, and I thought you had to keep your right hand wheels on that strip? The last picture shows him crossing the strip to get back on track....
Did you happen to see if they lifted slightly to negate the advantage?
No, he didn't lift at all.

No, he didn't lift at all.
It's either really stupid, or there's an intentional thing going on here which is too complicated for us mere mortals to understand, bear with me...

They go off track so far that the game calculates the extra metres covered, plus the impact on the driver with regards to dirty tyres and determines that the time gained is offset by those factors.

Perhaps a more conservative, but also illegal, line would still have triggered a penalty.

Realistically though, it's probably not working as intended.

Has anyone being doing daily C?

How is it? fun or just a slip stream fest?

@bone_tone I can confirm that I cannot find the magic path that guy found 🤦‍♂️

What a strange night in the Merc. Initially I was very slow, struggling to get into 15s, slowly figured it out and ran a 15.1. Not as fast as some of you animals here but it had me on pole in both my races in mixed A/B rooms.

Won the first and should have won the second but got myself a penalty at a bad time. So far so good though, seems a fun race and the replay visuals are excellent.

Very unexpected win at WG just, nice decent race apart from me being put out of contention by a missed braking point at the bus stop, but a couple pens later and hey presto! 😁

Nice to see @Bondwhar out there,

I actually didn’t know what the hell leader was doing, last corner nearly he was still 2 secs ahead, so 0.5 pen or not, hold your head mate! 😁 it’s almost like he gave up 😂

Well done , sadly punted orf at the bus stop and took an age to recover! 😩🤠

I love, love, LOVE this old Merc. Creeping up into uncharted alien territory now 👾

I watched the No.1 time and the short shifting is sort of working but I can’t get below 1.14.8 - has yours got a replay to watch? Or got any tips? 😁 it’s a great time trial and race isn’t it

Did 3 races on Daytona. I like how close it is, and I like it that it's the slower group 4 cars this time. There is more margin for error, and the field is ridiculously close together (at least for a long portion of the race), even in lower DR B lobbies.

That being said. The way to overtake is push to pass apparently. In all 3 races I lost places in the first lap due to people barging their way through. In the first race I got pushed on the grass in the infield and had to recover from the back. Finished P12 after a nice fight with P11.

In the second race I was doing okay. In lap 4 I was P9, entering turn 1. The car in front pushed another car off the track. That person responded by a retaliation punt in the next braking zone, but hit me instead of him sigh. Again I had to go from the back, this time with severe damage. The guy punting me was 5 seconds behind me, and quit after a few laps. I was 12 seconds behind the pack (which was P1 all the way to P12 within 6 seconds of each other). So dull I had to drive all those laps completely by myself, instead of having fun within the pack of racers.

In the third race someone again pushed me off, and again the perpetrator just drove on. After the pitstops I was again right behind him and I couldn't resist pushing him wide in turn 5. I am not proud of this, but I just had it with all this clumsy driving. It's okay if you bump me around, but just wait up when it happens. Now it just seems that everybody wants to get the highest finishing position possible, at all costs. I saw this behavior again at the finish line. I was in a nice battle for P7, I was P9 and bumpdrafted P8. He could overtake P7 and I could follow, maybe even overtake them both, only for P7 to cut short over the grass and finished in front of us without getting any track limit penalties.

Honestly you'd be better off watching Tidgney or the top 10 replays. I'm more like a monkey given an infinite amount of time at a typewriter being able to write Hamlet - I'm so inconsistent, it takes me many hours and hundreds of laps to hit upon a lap of the gods.

Here's an old photo of me in my rig:

I saved my 14.500. you could D/L it and race the ghost.

Haven't really got any tips, I just try to copy the WR.

@Lightsider74 @BuzzdoggZ

Yeah I know what you mean, I think sometimes driving style has something to do with it, you can come off a corner and the time is just there! I’ll keep plugging away, I’ll try some different WR times because they too have their different styles.

Keep hunting 😁

Definitely. I prefer a bit of lift-off oversteer rather than on-power oversteer which the Merc has. It's making me slightly hesitant to get on the throttle as early as needed.

Had one P2, the rest have been P10+ so far. It's a DR massacre 😆

Got home from the office and seeing as you’re all having fun on A, did a few laps.

There’s a bit left there — braked a touch late for T1 and the bus stop, and I’m trying not to lean on the gearbox as much as P1 is.

Happy with it though. Might do a few races later.

Can share the lap or just the VR POV — honestly makes the bus stop feel a lot less scary and a lot more repeatable when you see it from that perspective.

Nice lap too mate! Wondered when you’d come to the party, were all having a blast it would seem in the face of terrible daily choices by PD 😁

I’m back squeezing a race in at 5am so I’m defo hooked by A

The DR increase isn’t the best but it’s good racing too, upload away, always good to see how the other half are doing it

Chips are down now 🤣🤣🤣, great time 👍. I think i am going to break a habit and load a ghost to help me 🙉

Just to add to your point on the VR perspective, it 100% makes it far easier to hug that first inside wall. In fact in VR this track is absolutely fantastic i think. I will find more time, i just need to watch a couple of top replays and follow a ghost

Managed to find a little bit of time, better than the half second I am usually away from the top 😁

Edit. And almost had a bunch of DR As 😁
