Started playing GT7 after about 5 years off sim racing. Bought a Logitech RS50 to upgrade from the G29 collecting dust. Very rusty (was never that good anyways), but having a lot of fun, despite the punters. After getting down to D with the Gr3 race last week, switched it up to driving the Nissan at Fuji. Reminded me of my first car I ever had, a 1986 Mazda RX7, that wasn't big on horsepower but could be thrown around on the road like a little toy. Finally got my first win after 10+ pole positions and spinning out from the lead more than once, which felt great. I'm dedicated to using no racing line this time around, which is more fun, but less consistent for sure.

My early observation was racing in D resulted in less punts than racing in C, solely for the fact that ghosting is increased. Maybe it's more common to get punted when racing Gr3 cars compared to a 1990s road car, though, because the delta between closing speed into the corner compared to what the braking car is slowing down to is much greater. A bit harder to punt someone if your car was never going super fast in the first place.

guys, I have question, after last week massive grind, I decided to skip manufacturer cup and also I want to kinda retire from Sport mode for a while to just chill in "single player" mode.. To make long story short, my question is will I lose DR rank due to inactivity? I'm just not good enough to go further without wheel..

Normally by now you can see the next race C but it’s blank and says nothing available 😱😱

No, it will remain as it is, as will SR

Race A: Mercedes W196R @ Watkins Glen Short
6 laps (<8 minutes race time)
RH tyres
Rolling start

Race B: Gr.3 @ Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
5 laps (~8 minutes race time)
RH Tyres
Rolling Start

Race C: Gr.4 @ Daytona Road Course
11 Laps (>21 minutes race time)
2x fuel/4x tyre
RM/RS tyres
Required compound change

Looks like opendns don't like the cut of PD's gib.

Race A Merc W 196 R '55 RH

Little bit disappointed with this week. Love Watkins Glen but would've preferred a different car. Let's see. Race B is Dump imho.

Don’t think I’m going to attempt race A this week, but I’ll hold out on judging B until I’ve done a few days of it, it’s a new track for dailies I would say and with Gr3 will be better than the gr4 was 😁

Race C looks dull as dishwater - just watched sammysnake.

Race B is a fun course to drive around, only problem is when other people are there. feel like it's going to be another SPA/Brands Hatch filth fest!!!

Haha I feel the same. Trying to pick a game to play!

Although if we get a group of us at least time trialing B so we can have a leaderboard battle I’d be up for that?
Sorry but I'm really happy not starting GT7 for a week.

You never know mate, might turn into a peach, so I’m going to stick at B, can’t face another week like last week

Race A seems fun and I'm actually fast on that layout 🧐 I'll see if I'll have time to play to put in some qualy laps

Hey guys, Saturday I managed an 1:16.266 at HSR, being for once in a while inside the 0.5% delay from aliens. Didn’t have the time to actually race; Sunday I felt quite "off". Looking at this week Dailies, I don't feel that enthusiastic. I think I'll throw some laps at CGV in the Viper (or Aston, since it's looking op) just to see. In Gr4 with the 155 it was fun btw, curious to see how it is with Gr3. Glen in the Merc can be something, I'll put some laps there too maybe.
Enjoy your racing week, everyone.

And maybe another new car to drive in gr3 this week? Looks like the Aston is being used a lot this, what’s every body using at CGV?

What would you have had instead?

I've raced the W196 R way back some half year ago or whatever it was (at Trial Mountain) and it's really, really nice to drive, the one question mark is the tyre compound though, I'm pretty sure we were on Sports that time. RH sounds a bit too grippy for 1955, like it just happened with Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 time trial.

So I won't be a hypocrite as I am always suggesting the old race cars are underused in Sport mode but man, they finally do as I ask and it's the same car we used 18 months ago, the last time we used an old race car! Numpties.

Not a fan of the tracks in B or C so no trainer will lock into A this week. Agree with my pasty friend above, I think SH may have been a better tyre.

Did a race B at lunch and man that was eye opening, BS lobby but literally everyone barged through the corner if there was a car there or not, 3 or 4 spin outs first lap, this one is going to take some getting used for most, not sure if I’m interested in that one! Tried the Aston, the Viper and the Porsche and neither felt great.

Hopefully this old Merc has some appeal

It's a very fun drive the Merc, as are most of the old race cars because they have decent mechanical grip and not a lot of aero.

Montreal is a dreadful race track, just a series f chicanes. There's a great CDN track an hour from me, Mosport the former F1 circuit. It'd be a far better addition the game for likely 1/100th the license fee.

This was what I was worried about - It was fun in Gr4 a while back but even then it was quite dirty, assumed it would be even more compounded with Gr3

Did a few quali laps on Daytona. Nice that the F-type is the meta. It feels floaty to drive, but still okay. This track reminds me how bad I am at the bus stop. I am 2 seconds behind the top time. I lose 1 second in the infield, and another full second due to the bus stop. Just can't seem to take it as fast and narrow as the top guys are doing. That's going to take some practicing.

Yes, please, for Mosport!

My problem with old race cars in Sport Mode is you can’t use a shifter. Something about pulling a paddle in a W196 doesn’t feel right (but that’s probably just me).

Not a great week, but maybe it’s time I learned Daytona road course.

Oh it was bizarre, wasn't it? 800kg and 150hp! I felt like I was going to rip the chassis from the axles!

And yes, the Merc used to be on SS tyres if my memory serves me but also we have had it before with RH. It's been featured in at least one Daily Race and a TT.

Trying to improve my Q time in the Mercedes (which is awesome to drive in VR) by following 1 of the aliens 👽. But how do they not get a penalty for this lap infringement is beyond me!
