Trying to improve my Q time in the Mercedes (which is awesome to drive in VR) by following 1 of the aliens šŸ‘½. But how do they not get a penalty for this lap infringement is beyond me!

It does look weird, but hey, here's what real races at Watkins Glen look like:

I'm really enjoying the old Merc - slower cars suit my slow reactions better and WG is one of my favourite tracks.

I've had some great racing today with some very respectful drivers. Even into the bus stop it has mostly been sensible. Hopefully all the boy racers stick to races B and C, and leave A to the old boys.

Montreal is a dreadful race track, just a series f chicanes.

THat is one track I just cannot gel with at all, every corner feels so slippery, each to his own but avoid it at all costs.
I'm sensing a theme here . Hope next week brings you some more acceptable circuits.
By the way Mosport is in Project Motor Racing. The track list in that game is quite good, just a pity about the rest of it.

I actually like all 3 tracks this week, but I have no time to race. Such is life.

What would you have had instead?

I've raced the W196 R way back some half year ago or whatever it was (at Trial Mountain) and it's really, really nice to drive, the one question mark is the tyre compound though, I'm pretty sure we were on Sports that time. RH sounds a bit too grippy for 1955, like it just happened with Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 time trial.
Nothing against the old Merc really just not into that style. Not sure what id've chosen maybe an old muscle car.

Enjoyed the cars in A the past 3 weeks so can't complain.

Yes, I can never understand how people get round this corner like that(and wider sometimes!) without getting a penalty. And they manage it every lap too.

I get a penalty if I'm a centimetre over the line.....

Here's an example - this guy was closing in on me, saw him go wide in my rearview mirror, thought that should slow him down a bit! But no, no penalty šŸ¤”

In all fairness, Watkins Glen Short in general has had loads of candidates over the years. The old Merc is just another one to add to the pile.

SVG is the best sleeper talent in world motorsport for the last 15 years, a dead set legitimate gun. Can drive anything fast, really, really fast.

Because the replays aren’t accurate firstly and secondly there are some lines that the game doesn’t consider as penalty worth.

Tidgney has a video on it.

If you look at that on bumper cam I bet it doesn’t look as wide as that.

Also just a side note if you are that wide at that part of the exit you are on the absolute limit vs just nailing a consistent fast time.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Mercedes-Glenz

A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday. The week’s lineup keeps things firmly in North America, with stops at Watkins Glen, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and Daytona...

Here's this weeks guide for those interested! My honest opinion is that I think this week is even worse than last week which is saying something!

Yeah I agree, usually I can embrace the chaos or focus on the technical but honestly this week feels pretty bad and almost send everyone to the GTWS to drum up lobbies.

On a personal note A is fine, it’s A. B is not my thing the circuit just doesn’t have real overtaking points (fairly) and is clumsy for most players.

C is fine but a bit well mediocre C it’s fine but just not very dynamic.

Oi!!! Why have you all been hiding daily A from me for the last 4 months šŸ‘€šŸ‘€šŸ‘€

Just had my first crack at it and it’s quite fun!!! Very different driving technique and feel but I’m having a blast! Absolutely setting fire to DR but who cares šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

No he definitely exceeds what we would all normally consider the track limit, however Tidgney has explained in this weeks races that there is a thin strip of concrete passed the rumble strips that counts as ā€˜on the track’.
End of broadcast 🤠

I love Race A. But, damn those track limits are insane. Sometimes I think "Why they don't get a penalty" because they cut some corners with 2 cars width :D

NGL implement the NASCAR track limits for the WG short, that's fun and cool. But if you're going to do that then also implement the IMSA limits at Road Atlanta in T5 so that you can run all the way onto that access road. And the Daytona limits where you can cut the end of the bus stop without worry.

OR hard enforce the white line as limits.

I am loving this Race A...well, i have not actually done a race yet but i will. Tried a few laps before my dinner

I am quite happy with a 1.15.033 but i will be much happier if i break into the 14's 🤣.
About time i got to use it after spending 20m on it šŸ™‰

I think I’ve found a home for the week, that old Merc is really good fun around WG, I was sure the last time I used it I hated it, but this is seriously good fun and the leaderboard battle will be epic too I reckon,

Was a little surprised to start on pole after hitting a mid 1.15 earlier and I really close race with me and p2, even better a 0.5 sec pen doesn’t kill you completely. We both had one and I managed to squeeze couple of tenths victory at the first attempt

If nothing else this could be a DR goldmine 😁

Poor week for sure but maybe at least something to see the week out lunch wise, perhaps go back to CGV once folk learn how to pass properly there

I'm just not good enough to go further without wheel..
Genuine question; are you already experienced with a wheel?

Because if not, and near-term improvement is your goal, then your self imposed hiatus from online racing probably isn't preferable to just getting yourself out on the track. You're likely aware of this, but getting a wheel won't guarantee you gain a higher ability ceiling.

To say you can't possibly get any better without a significant hardware change when you're at the beginning of DR A is selling yourself short!

yes friend, I'm sim racer since long time ago, I'm actually much faster with a wheel and can barely addapt to controller but I have lots of things going on in life atm so getting sim rig is on the bottom of my priorities unfortunately

That's a cracking time there mate, I'm going to have to win a few more races to get back into A if I want to see you in a lobby again!!!

Is it right that the thin strip of concrete only starts about half way down so you can go wide at the start and then pull it back in?

Have you noticed less of a DR gain? I got a win last night and it was about 400DR instead of the usual 600/700? Assume this is simply down to there being 4 less cars to gain Dr from? I think I've answered my own question there to be fair šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

I haven’t to be honest but yes makes sense due to the mix of lobbies, my interest is cooling on WG, this morning race was more fight at all costs to win, which doesn’t interest.

The slip stream also seems op?

I’d still like to get a top 100 time though 😁

I love Race B. If you are on the outside in the chicanes with big asphalt areas and get barely pushed off by an opponent, you don't get a penalty. So you can just overtake for free with a massive timecut. Some call it cheating, I call it Hamilton-Line.
