GT7 Daily Race Discussion

Another disappointing week of daily races for me to be honest. I've never been that good at Red Bull Ring or with Group 4 cars and I have trouble getting outrageous qualifying times for that and moving that far up from where I started. I just don't know what's wrong with me and why it seems like I just don't have any serious talent for this game even when I practice hard...

Agreed. Boring week ahead. Red Bull Ring is a great track but the sausage curbs and penalty system to match is just a nightmare to finish a race without penalties, let alone record a fast qualifying lap. Not to mention Gr.4 races these days are just inundated with the Atenza... Such a boring boat of a car to drive. Just mash the gas peddle as hard as you can, nothing genuine about racing these cars.

Race C is the same. Can practically have a nap down the main straight. And turn 1 is just chaos so if you're starting on pole you're guaranteed to be sent into the wall from everyone behind you.

Ok after doing several Tokyo races I've decided this combo with this BOP is pretty darn fun. I've been competitive in the Supra, Audi, not so much the Ferrari, and I've tried a few laps with the Viper but I can't get that one to behave.

The main things to nail there are the T1-2 complex, that sharp left right after the lazy left right, and the exit onto the main straight. Everything else you can work around.
My QT is somewhere around 2:03:7xx but I've seen a 2:02:4xx on the clock in race trim with zero drafting help so I know I have more time in the Supra somewhere.

Finally Monza isn't a track that should exist or if you want it to please do something about the catastrophically dumb and bad first chicane. I know why it's there. I like the version of Monza without the first chicane better.

Took part in one Race C in morning. Surprisingly, I was stacked in a grid that was mainly DR C & D. I was on pole too.

Even though I won the race, it wasn't a satisfying victory. Firstly, I was racing against lower DR ranked players & secondly, all of them were as if hell bent in ruining each other's races. My winning gap to 2nd placed player of 39 seconds just proves what a mayhem it was.

Even though, I raced alone by myself, I kept my nose clean. These achievements I earned just because I was running by myself. Had I been amongst them, it would've ended in a frustrating race.

More than winning, I was more pleased with the fact that I started ahead avoiding all the typical chaos of mid pack fighting. This again proves qualifying well enough is like winning half the race already.

After 20 laps or so, I was able to set a PB qualy of 2:00:467. MY optimum was 2:00:005. I feel I can be faster in the Supra just because it's a FR car.

Yeah I've lost count of the times I've shouted "no way!" at the TV after getting a penalty.

I also found the car decent to drive after expecting it to have way less grip.

Murciélago at Monza on paper doesn’t sound too bad and I thought I’d spend some time there but probably not. Only two CRB in four attempts is already a sign to me that it’s going to be really, really bad and frustrating. Not enough drivers in GT7 are capable of driving this combo without screwing up literally everywhere. Makes for a terrible experience.

I rate Monza/Murciélago as a decent endurance combo.

The lap is relatively straightforward and I think consistent clean lapping under pressure from your opponent is the key ingredient to getting a win. 4 laps is enough just to get a taste for it.

Obviously it's a pipe dream but a thought worth sharing nonetheless.

That said my oh my in A/A+ lobbies the amount of people that get it so so wrong.

I mean you can’t set top 300 times and not understand how traffic works, honestly it’s been embarrassing how poor the braking is in the top 2-4 splits.

My funniest thoughts are “dude, I’m literally behind 3 people in the top 20 in the world, you don’t have to barge past because where else are you gonna go, I’ll just follow you instead till you get a pen pushing to hard”

I was gonna upload some VR footage but honestly I want people to learn not do one fast lap and have no race thinking.

Honestly, and I’ll say this one last time, the game is weak at creating better drivers.

It has all the mechanics to move people better but it chooses not to. That’s a choice they made.

Humans aren’t AI and mediocre pace and constant corner contact isn’t a lobby problem it’s a self reflection and ability problem.

Not often we see this side of you, you are normally the stoic voice of reason! Must have been a rough evening.

Fully agree with your other points, the choices PD have made in allowing the clumsy/dirty driving to become such a big part of the game that we just have tolerate is what has led me to racing way more casually now. Putting hours of effort into TT to shave tenths off the time and get a good starting position to just get punted or pushed off every other race just seems like a waste of time and too much emotional damage

Spending the week at Tokyo. Racing on alt account makes the absolute chaos look less disturbing. Seriously, 10 laps and geniuses try the move of a life time with 0.000001% succes probability at 1st corner, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on... Standards were quite low between Monday and yesterday. Eventually I got "The race" I was long looking for. Started 2nd, helped the 1st to break away (like nobody did with me on pole) and waited calmly till the last few laps. I Just can say that we made several km side by side (straights and corners) with barely any contact. Ended up 1st cause he lost it on my final lap 1st corner's attack, going too deep and clipping the wall. Lots of credit to the guy btw; in "normal" conditions he could have me killed multiples times (like many did without any second thought).

Glad you got a good race mate. It’s the one off clean, exciting, fun race that’s keeps us all coming back! Like the one good shot in a 4 hour round of golf 😂

On a side note, I don’t think track limit penalties should affect your SR as much as direct driving. You miss a few corners in a few races and you’re with the animals.

Had something similar myself. Albeit P10 to P8 but 5 laps of RBR bonnet to bumper in a bit slip stream gets the adrenaline pumping and is so much fun!!! Nothing dirty!

I didn’t hold out much hope for laddo behind me with that user name, his opening gambit of “I punish bad drivers” and an SR of B 😂😂 but he had so many opportunities to sling it up the inside and didn’t take one of them. We had zero contact the whole way round so kudos to him!!!

Gave RBR a lash last night, Glen mentioned precision, which is not a strength of mine at all. Optimal QT is a 37.6 but I am stuck on a 38.2, which is like 10 places in start position in DRB rooms. Ran two races, most guys trying to race fair but all you need is one idiot and it s game over, very frustrating. It's basically the Atenza cup with penalties galore, hugely annoying.

Another fantastic race of 1x 1x racing in the same cars, sweet! Perhaps they could remove my limbs and potentially eyes to maximise my enjoyment.

Seems like they can’t seem to work the BOP out to give us races where different cars can be used and 90% of the time it’s the Porsche, Citroen or Atenza!

So if they can’t sort the bop, maybe a simple solution is to start putting on some 1 car races in the Gr3 or Gr4 but take care that are rarely used, might be the only way we actually get a shot at driving an array of cars.

You hit the nail on the head.....Do You remember a few months back in Race C, we only had FR Gr.4 cars at St. Croix? For me, one of the best daily race combo ever.

Gr.3 or Gr.4, just offer a handful of cars & strictly omit the meta cars (Gr.3 - 992, M6) & ( Gr.4 - G70, GT by Citroen, Atenza). For eg; let there be FF cars once for Gr.4 racing. No one looks at them for their understeery nature. At least for a week, neglected cars will get some needed attention.

I wouldn't mind a set of similar powered road cars with racing tyres even as these cars with lots of grip offer the most enjoyment (imo).

Yeah group 4 is open to tweaking, so only FFWD or only RWD for example, just to break it up. Or ya know, alter the BOP.

I’m no programmer but this seems a very easy way for them to introduce a bit of variety.
I do wonder how long it takes them to set up the daily races, and how much maintenance they need, versus their income from ps plus/new game sales etc (disclaimer: I don’t know the PD or games industry business model AT ALL 🤣). Maybe they are trying to minimise costs at this point in the game’s life cycle. Even a few months ago they seemed to be putting more effort in.
Every week I dread seeing how depressed @Tidgney is at the week’s offering 😢

I had a bash today at Daily Race C only as RBR didn't seem interesting but I will try the Lambo race another time. So chugged in with the Ford GT with mixed results, alot of divebombing and crashes on turn 1 expected, but the penalties for barrie collision being given even though the person behind me pushed me into the wall oh joy. 3rd race with the R8 LMS 19 EVO, I put some more practice time in beforehand and managed a quick 2:01 as seen below in the pics. A decent time for me to start in 8th on the grid, in a fairly high B lobby. Some quick buggers in here and I managed to after some jostling and bashing all over, recover to 9th. There is no way you have a clean race in this one, the BARRY R's are out to get ya lol.
