Wowzers the pace in C this week is hot!!!!!

I can’t even break into top 1,000 and it’s only Tuesday! God knows how low the barrier will be by the weekend!

1.40.252 for Lewis at the top is outrageous!!!!

That left hander where you take it nearly flat is so tricky. Honestly felt like I was absolutely nailing it, check telemetry and I lose 3 tenths in that tiny section to Tidgney 😂 god knows how he is carrying so much speed

Can people add me on my alt please PSN: stringerkratos

It’s very lonely on the naughty step and I’m going to be here for a while

Thanks, but even when my DR is B, it's still insanely common for me to be put in tough rooms and I just can't understand why I don't have the talent necessary for getting top 100.

Same.

I have too much going on to dedicate the time to practicing. Back in the GT1/2 days, when I was a student, and the GT3 days when I could leave my job in its office, I could sink hundreds of hours in and set decent times on the old leaderboard sites. Now I just play for fun and/or work purposes (no quicker way to suck fun out of a hobby than having it be your job), and rarely even do Daily Races.

Gets easier and more enjoyable when you don't set over-the-top goals for yourself, creating unnecessary stress and pressure.
Even DR A requires hours per week of practice to be competitive and consistent in daily races. In dr B you must be able to qualify high enough and then be consistently fast on lap 1 to stay clear of the mayhem. Takes weekly practice atleast until you have mastered ALL of the tracks at some level. And as many have said, that point between DR B and DR A is fierce. DR B has a lot of drivers who are VERY fast. Only thing keeping them at DR B is inconsistency or too agressive driving. Or lack of time.

I think the key is to be consistent and pick your battles - especially in DR B. If you put your nose in every crack and defend every position till death you will just end up ruining more of your races. You go door to door with fast but dirty DR B drivers, and they will catch you enought to dive bomb every time. Play the long game - let the guys battle and wait for the fruit to fall. P3-p6 finishes are best aim, and most of the time you can get that "neutral" p7/8 just by staying out of trouble.

Only reason I aim for dr A, is cleaner racing. when you get deeper in DR A, around 34k-35k points, the racing gets a lot more relaxed and clean. BUT it means its also tighter as people make less mistakes. Make one small one yourself and you go from podium to 12th. And staying in dr A atleast for me requires few hours of training every week. There is no way I can just drop in to dailies and maintain my DR. Even after decades with Gran Turismo.

For me the thing is, that when you have reached DR A few times and you know you can do it if you put in the time and training, it gets less stressfull to "let loose" and drop to DR B when you dont have the time to train every week.

Thanks. It's just I've been playing the game for years and I still can't make it to the top 100 players in the leaderboards in the long run. I've been stuck in limbo between A and B and right now I'm B and I've never made it to A+. I just always feel so slow and underpowered as a controller user.
Have you ever tried using a wheel? It takes weeks/months to get up to even your pad pace in my experience.

Have you thought about time trialling? especially trying to beat a small group of rivals with similar pace? It's still fun and competitive but less intense than actual "live" racing.

You sound like a decent/sincere chap with similar DR level to me and I hear your frustration regarding a perceived lack of pace. I've said a few times before I came to PS5 and GT7 from Xbox and Forza Motorsport. To say it was a rude awakening would be an understatement! I could get an occasional top 10 leaderboard time in Forza yet my first weekly time trial in GT7 put me at around 15,000th!!

(If you want some friendly Time Trialling competition on any combo let me know :) )

This is truth bomb stuff, should be a sticky.

I'm sorry to say this, but I've lost all hope. Even when I try braking earlier and coasting like people recommend here, I still can't go outrageously fast. I feel like I can only dream of ever making it to A+, let alone the Gran Turismo World Series. It just seems like there's something wrong with me that makes it impossible for me to reach the same level as the absolute best Gran Turismo players and the fact that I often can't match my times with elite players even when I try doing the same tracks again and again and again really shows that there's some sort of insurmountable barrier for me... I'm just a mediocre wannabe at the game and I just can't go outrageously fast as a controller user... I've tried so many different strategies for years and I still can't get better... I'm sorry.
I totally understand your frustration. That said, lack of improvement is mostly due to bad habits. Recognise those habits is the first step towards improvements.
Don't just look at an élite's replay; analyse it. Braking marks, lines (really important) and track limits, brake releasing marks, trailbraking technique, throttle inputs (flat out, 80%, 50%?). Analyse your replay with the same scrutiny and see the defferences from the alien you chose as reference. On pad is not easy, I mean, there's not so many people like Calster25 out there. Personally I set an alt account in order to train my weaknesses; one of wich is consistency. I believe is maybe the most common one coupled with the knowledge of where your tyres exactly are in any given moment. DR for that account is definitely irrelevant. I do experiments on it, so I don't care. Nevertheless, to give you some context, the 1st time I raced gr3 in Sardegna on medium I was at 1.4% delay from the best time (sweaty, plateauing) when nowadays I started the week at 1.2% delay with room for improvements hopefully till 0.8% (wich is as a '41 flat my bold target for the weekend). Remember also that being, let's say, always between the 200 fastest times in a Daily means being inside the fastest 0.3% of the weekly participants (using 70'000 as average for a "hot combo").
Check Luke's channel, if you didn't yet, it will surely help. Sparks did also a nice video recently on the "topic"; check his channel too.

I've tried using two Thrustmaster wheels in the past, but they both disappointed me, so I returned them.

It can take a long time to adapt and i am not a gear guy but I had a real cheap and nasty t150 and hated it, never got within 2 seconds of my pad times. Tried a proper wheel at a car show and decided to take the plunge to a fanatec Gt DD and it took about 3 to 4 weeks, could not imagine going back, night and day stuff.

Thanks, but I've tried analyzing an expert player's replay in the past and mimicking their braking points and I still can't go as fast as them...

Man, I really feel for you! There's indeed SO MUCH to think about when it comes to trying to find pace.

As @Gurzu says, firstly get your racing line on point, because that's the easiest factor to control. Braking points and accelerator/brake modulation can be debated and practiced each to one's own comfort zone, but the racing line is generally immutable. Once you know your car is occupying the correct part of the track, everything else will eventually fall into place with practice.

I've been playing GT since the very beginning, online racing since GT Sport in 2017 and I'm on 2,500 races on GT7 and I'm STILL learning techniques because I'm STILL slow.

Going back to my opening sentence, just try to learn one or two aspects at a time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Believe in yourself and try to relax.

(Also, add GT Planet members to your PSN, then you can use those normal human times to find out who is similar pace, then use them as a benchmark instead)

So true, I’m DR A and sometimes I don’t race till the weekend trying to be prepared and have a good quali time. Picking one race for the week helps too. The wheel was a game changer for me but it took a few weeks to adjust. I’m on the Logitech Pro.

Take it one race at a time, my man. You'll never know how far you can go unless you keep at it.

Can people add me on my alt please PSN: stringerkratos
Check your privacy settings mate, when I click add, nothing happens, you may have it set to no one can friend request you

Sorry everyone.

Had myself on private and couldn’t receive any friend requests. Can you add again please or pop your PSN here and I’ll add you

Wow that Jag is a much better race car to drive, for me at least, it’s better in the corners and doesn’t feel so sluggish pulling out of them, that’s it, that’s my car for the duration.

Reaching the lofty heights of upper B, just raced a mixed A/B lobby starting 12th and managed to bring it home in 5th 😁

Just caught this Aston Martin on the final straight and took him by a hundredth!

As close as it was, could have been an 8th finish too

I'm gonna definitely try it. Yesterday's Luke's lap guide was based on the Jag, wich has quite similar (if not exactly) same marks as the Genesis, but is faster on straights and more gentil on tyres. The engine's sound is also the one you want to hear rather than the awful drilling machine of Hyundai.

The Jaguar is fast, but it has trouble going through Eau Rouge at Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps without slowing down.

I kindly disagree on that. You can go trough Eau Rouge with basically all gr3 cars flat out, especially with the new physic.

Maybe with a steering wheel, but I have trouble doing it with the Jaguar as a controller user and with BOP applied.

Lovely mate, I'm in B lobbies at the moment on the alt so will hopefully see you out on track!

Is that in Luke's members section?

I'm struggling in T1 and the left hander at the start of S3 where you tap the brakes and throw it left, is tha Jag better or worse in those sections?

Hmm.. must say I havent tried, but Eau Rouge is a typical example of wrong driving line, as it often doesnt involve lift-off, brake or shifting. Its purely about the line and steering input. Its also one where you should use outside kerb at entry. That is another big thing of being fast in GT7 - to know where and how to use kerbs and track limits. One of my weaknesses, as in GT7 you would have to learn the invisible limits corner by corner. I just take it safe.

Thanks. It's just easier to go through Eau Rouge without slowing down with some cars than with others. The Jaguar's handling isn't its strong suit which is why it's harder with that car.

Turn 1 for me is braking in the second of the red markers at the end of barrier on the right, down to second but first if I over do it and short shift to second, thatt uphill right then left hander I’m dropping to third to throw as close to the left hand side as I can without touching the wall, I think this can probably be done in 4th though,

Yes you'll find in the members section.
I believe it's more a matter of taste than the actual differences between the cars.

Yeah 4th is better for that, I'm just losing about 4-5MPH at the apex compared to the top times but it's so tight to keep it on the road on the exit at that speed.

T1 I'm just struggling to get that smoothness, very jerky which is coting me a couple of tenths.

Squeeked into the 41's but need to find 6 or 7 tenths from somewhere

It’s certainly tough at the top en? 😂😂
