I agree with you to some extent, as ultimately i prioritise having fun over everything else.
My problem is, that as long as we had "Race A/unranked, B and C ranked" with the latter always being Group 3 & 4, there was only one direction my DR was traveling! Having a 'stay clean' race is fine but i often find myself mismatched because either I'm a big fish in the small A pond, or a small fish in the big B & C pond.
More than once I've 'ranked' up in a favourable combo only to be left in the dust in Race Car category combos.
There is a really interesting point in both what you and Neville are saying and there is an obvious one as well generally.
At launch A had quite a few junior hatch races that were ranked, these were fun and my first foray back in to online racing since GTR 2/ GTL the cars were controllable and I was lower ranked so progress wasn’t even on my radar more having fun and upping my race count.
Then A evolved/devolved to something very different, it was fine for me as I was happy bringing up the back in Daily B mostly in that period (still do now most weeks 🤣)
Over the 3 years I have improved in both race craft and as a driver in the game and am often moaning the same moan I did 1 year ago just moaning about being slow in A or Slow in B (DR) and bouncing between the 2.
What I have learned is pace and consistency HAVE to improve to solidify your ranking, I’m at a semi natural 1/3rd through the bar place for me it goes up and it goes down but I can always re-centre to about that position now, but it’s taken time and quality time doing my laps, the quality bit being I did them with learning in mind.
Back to Daily A, having done the amount of racing I have I find it a novelty both in combo choices but also the wild grid spreads A+ to E/B it’s just crazy and no offence to anyone typically the pace spread is almost comical in this sort of mix.
But this has a problem as well, it de incentivises new players to persist and practice and improve and for more experienced players it’s a meme/nothing race typically where the most experienced are seal clubbing or just doing x laps flag to flag to get the win with a few people in between not really trying or learning just trying to gain SR back that arguably in some extreme players SR swings shouldn’t be allowed.
So you have this race that is deliberately “different” to any of the other competitive PVP races but typically with the most unfriendly combos where th good keep looking “gooder” and the people trying to improve aren’t in an environment to actually learn to be better.
I think personally while the Daily race structure has been good since sport mode it’s becoming less and less fit for the purpose the video they make you watch is actually trying to convey.
