@Gurzu I saw that an immediately thought how darn close!!!!!

Meanwhile, in race A, not sure for how long but I’m on the perch! 😁
Nice, it's a rarity to see you at the top of the board. You must have had a few tricks up your sleeve to get yourself in the super-fast zone!

I have been racing Brands Hatch this week (DR B). I could set a qualifying time of 1.31.320. I did drive a 1.31.32x three times so consistency was there. Had hoped for a 1.30.x so I would start from pole all the time. So it was a range of Q1 to Q4. My observations are:

Gr4 races are imho not the best experiences. Vastly prefere Gr3. The cars are that slow, that overtaking is near impossible if the car in front does not make mistakes. This leads imho to more dirty driving. I have been in a race starting at P2. I was faster than P1 but had no chance to pass, made a little mistake so P3 hanging behind me for some laps could slip past and then I was hanging behind P2 for the rest of the race. We three, imho clean drivers, have been within 2s all the race. Then there have been enough races, where I was shoved out of the way. That seems the way to overtake in Gr4. Sad. The P2 of the first race mentioned was on P2 behind me in another race and was shoved out of the way. He ended on last place with the race timer ticking down, guess he went for the pits and stayed there. I could secure the win from pole with a 14s lead driving about 1s faster per lap than P2 . My laptimes were 1.31.9x to 1.32.3x. Had another pole to P1 race with 14s lead. And then there were those Q2/3/4 races where I was shoved away, shoved away again, got in the middle of the pack ... resulting in around P10+. So the verdict is, with clean drivers around the speed for P1-3 was there, but with dirty drivers around the results were meh.

I am quiet new to Gran Tourismo. GT7 is my first GT and I am playing it for 1 year now with limited time availible (kids, house, other hobbies). I am now 110 races in and my observation is, that you have to commit a certain time to succeed in daily races. I had 3 evenings this week (seldom) and this made it possible to set a qualifying time I was pleased with. As seen in the race reports above, this seems crucial to have the time to set a proper qualifying time and thus keep away from the mid pack madness. So I decided to only race dailies, if I can commit at least two evenings in that week. Everything else seems suicide. Set my goal to reach DR A by the end of the year and I guess low DR A is where the journey will end with my availible time to race. Other till end of year goals are finishing the license tests, the track experiences and get .5s faster to secure gold in TTs with fewer effort and more consistently. Looking at the qualifying or time trial times others around here achieve, insane, brutal talent, never doable for me.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the game, I think your comments and expectations are spot on.

I do agree that you need to spend an awful lot of time qualifying to get the best time possible to you, but I believe you can competitive without too much qualifying, if that makes sense, if your expectation is to get top 5s etc then you can do that from a top 10 position.

Or just qualifying against times against this group or the time trial group will give yiu a lot of satisfaction.

In DR A though it will be hard on limited time but you might enjoy racing at mid to high BS,

Either way, enjoy your journey and pop by and let us know how you are getting on 👍

I would love to know why at certain times in a month the lobby connections seem to struggle, sure there some people racing on the worst connections but even generally they seem really buggy/high latency.

My experience is, that from around place 10 anything can happen in the mid pack mayhem, from top 5 to bottom 5. I guess it evens out in the end, so if you go for constant progress in DR some qualifying effort is needed. Though I have to admit, that the fierce mid pack fights are absolutely thrilling and entertaining, if fought out fair. If you can qualify in the top pack, imho it seems better to not fight in race C in the first half of the race and rather get some gap to the rest. In the first race described I did get headlights by P3 and he bumpdrafted me once, guess this was a peace signal (learned here from the forum, thx).

TTs are indees a lot of fun and I think those made me faster, as you really have to analyze every corner how to gain time there.

Both of those points are absolutely spot on.

Mid pack is fun if everyone is focused on keeping the pace up while jostling and it’s not 3 cars trying to squeeze by at the same time!

Point 2 is absolutely how you should be thinking “race time and strategy” keep thinking like that and you will progress very very well.

For those limited on time I do encourage using any small time to do TT because it makes you more up to speed the next time you can race just pace wise if nothing else

Hey @Gurzu, nice to see you on track earlier, don’t think I’ve had the pleasure before! Finishing third put me back in A again so next week will see me hanging on as usual, and that’s if the track/car combo suits me 🤣. That was it for me, there’s only so many laps of Brands I can deal with in one week! Hope to see you on track again soon. Always nice to race against a forum regular.

A: Tokyo East C/W - Curated Civics 92 in touring car liveries

B: Catalunya GR3 - meh

C: Le Mans - Curated GR1 (GrC 90s) RM 1 stop required

Thinking personally a bit of a meh week again.
Will likely do a few B's - I should probably TT Race C as I'm absolutely hopeless there - I just don't enjoy the circuit enough to want to improve

Oh no, Group C at Le Mans is one my favourites, but I'm about to hit the road for a trip to the Lake District instead. 5hrs of motorway, what fun. Le Mans will have to wait for the weekend, I'll have to stick to jogging mountain trails in the meantime.

Race A and Race C would both be really appealing to me... except they're each at the only track those sets of cars are apparently allowed to race at.

As much as people like to talk about Suzuka or Deep Forest overuse, that's my biggest complaint with the general daily rotation - that when we do get some creativity on the car choice side, they only ever seem to race at the tracks they are "supposed to".

A and C liveries (and track combos) are from respective Special Events. However, C has one livery missing - the pink Italya R92CP:

There was a dupe R92CP with more power that has since been removed that I suspect is supposed to be that.

Did I binned, or was I punted? 🤣 Anyway, good to see you. Got only podiums this weekend and some countryside journeys. The best is the one where I was on pole against A+/A drivers. I choose to leave the second (A+) go and follow him, but the 3rd (sneaking inside) went 2nd leaving me 3rd in the end, with behind an A+ YT's streamer. I simply kept it together and left the Youtuber at bay with 4s margin, bringing home the podium.
Edit:
The grid...

Btw this week I don't see myself self racing, if not with the Civic in Race A.

I think you won the race I was in, with a megane second, or possibly vice versa, I’m terrible at remembering!

Don't get me started!

Repeat car choices is something I would've thought they would be striving to AVOID, with the number of possibilities we have.

And what's the deal with Engine Swaps being nonexistent for Daily Races and Time Trials?

Yeah I feel a little short changed by that choice of dailies.

Race A last week lasted only until the weekend, had enough by then so wanted something to accompany race A this week, which does look like my cup of tea I have to say 👍
You know I don't know why they can't shuffle the Race A slot halfway through the week. I mean, I do know why but i can't grasp it.

I'm like you, I was bored by the weekend and the trolls were out in force. Why couldn't the midweek racers get promoted to another Race A which gives us a tuned version of the car?

The first thing i did once i noped out of the destruction derby was load up a custom race using engine-swapped S2000s. It was brilliant!

Yeah 500 odd cars in the game 🤣

And this race A looks to have 3 different types of civic but one is a lot faster than the other two, what’s that about.

I did get a time just outside the top100 though at lunch, but I just don’t feel like gr3 catalunya this week.
