Is it something personal or are they awarding red SR randomly now?
My last 3 races at Sardegna
-5th all blue Dr SR
1st (from 7th) red SR S and immediately down to SR A ( strict, harsh because i just had contact in the first lap and beginning of 2nd the driver in front of me hit the left barrier in turn 2 and lost maybe 30 kmh and swerved.. But ok, i take)
But the last race, starting 5th, with all DR B un front of me. After turn 1 i am first. Finished in 7:07.xxx seven seconds ahead of P2, didn't touch anyone, went a little white in T1 once. (2tyres on the grass?)
Red SR A and directly down to SR B. While my Dr barely progressed. GT,the real driving frustrator

Any time you have contact with a fixed object or another vehicle, and any time you run three wheels beyond what's considered the track limit at that location, you lose SR. You can only gain SR by running a sector/split without doing any of those things.

Penalties are irrelevant, as is how heavy the contact is or how far you go off-track, or when it occurs in the race.

As I understand it, you gain SR at a much lower rate than you lose it, so one incident may require an entire clean race (depending on length) to offset it.

This is entirely true, the DR by its nature is sort of hockey stick until it plateaus once you have dropped

SR seems/appears to work in a slightly different way as incidents are seemingly weighted hence the one single contact pen can knock half a bar off.

It’s interesting in A this week as it’s really visible how slow (fast on the down side) this all works.

Edit:

The game has much bigger problems than how it assigns SR.

I’m absolutely fuming after this.

I’ve included the start to see how “fun” that is as I’m sure we are all having the same T2 issues. But the penalty at the end made me quit.

For those that don’t want to watch it’s just the last 15/20 seconds (it’s only 2 min long in total) that someone hits a wall is broken and well a passenger and I clip them (in VR so my self preservation is high) but way after their crash and I get a 3s penalty.

I’m beyond words quite frankly, the A+ guys all get the ghosting because Le Mans has 2 chicanes and I get a pen because a car hit a wall flat out in front of me. It’s a joke. I have good reflexes but that’s asking in a made up vision car with more aero than Mars? Can make.

Yet in 3 corners it was completely fine to run deep in to me (i regret saying that on the internet!)

But honestly this isn’t even about the players it’s about the reality that the game can’t handle. Sophy is great but the penalty system is archaic.

Roll the tape

Yep. YOu were hit literally into every damn corner the first lap, like EVERYY time, barely a penalty around you. Then you clatter into someone facing backwards on the racing like at 250 clicks and you get the penalty.

Race A last night all I did was try and avoid contact, not even racing just circulating trying to avoid contact and I went down the SR A from S due to people hitting me.

It's so stupid.

That’s ridiculous 🙃

Edit:

Let’s be honest that’s not even crappy racers or decision making it’s just pretty bad.

If anyone has some tips to avoid this then I am all ears.

Yeah just seems how this race goes, I had one after work where I managed to get a half decent time, 41.992 so I’m starting 3rd in my CC lobbies (which is ridiculous enough) and us first three end up 7/8/9 ☹️

It’s a shame because it’s a great track but not really suited at the reverse way, ruins it - that coupled with this car makes it completely wrong. That car is more suited to something more open.

I am eager to get back but it won’t be this weekend in anyway shape or form.

Chin up and hope next week will be banging 😁

I'm pretty sure the folks at Red Bull were looking to build an F1 car that you could drift when they built these things. Then, later in the meeting after some drinks, one smart-a$$ at the back of the room yelled "Make it fun-sized" and it stuck.🤣

Having fun blasting around the track but y'all been fear-mongering the races, lol. I'll wade into those shark-infested waters this evening, with any luck, and will be hoping for the best.

This clumsy or sometimes even dirty driving is what stops me from playing the game now and then. But I get back to it because when the racing is fair, it is so enjoyable. Maybe the powerful Gr. 2 cars on this track is just too hectic a combo for my skill level. I have a hard time keeping it on the track by myself, let alone when others are driving close to me. That being said.. I'm still going to try at least one more time this morning, with no expectations.
There's a lot of both in Race C this week (clumsy and dirty driving). People keep running into the back of you, then get frustrated because you're driving slow due to car damage - this means they run into the back of you at the next corner, or just plain ram you off track!

I actually managed to get a clean race bonus today - didn't think that would be possible 😂. It's so easy to get rammed into the car in front, sometimes resulting in a penalty.

Things aren’t right, 5 weeks ago im in lobbies with you, Gurzu, the Brazilian dude barney and fighting with tax dodger.

I was cusp A+ and I think top 200 across the 3 races. Doing good TT times

Having maintained an SR S for multiple months I the A/A+ lobbies im honestly bloody confused.

Yeah it can be painful when our hobby turns against us but I think that’s all it is, you just have believe better times will come.

The problem with GT7 is that there is bugger all else to do when you hit a week or a few weeks where the tracks and racing just dont gel, I mean take gr4 these days - it so dull and the biggest hit for me,

I only hope for GT8, with this huge player base that they manage some more online content for us lifers 😁

That’s fair but my problem isn’t why aren’t they fixing this stuff?

I can’t do any more to avoid issues yet, yet I get the penalty as I avoided the issue. I’m getting to the point of done if this game. When the fun stops, you stop; but I’ve carried on and now meh

3 second penalty, for what, for what! I’m really still raging

The worrying thing for me, with Spec III and its "online mode revamp" looming, is that it could go either way with regards to delivering in favour of us sane folk or delivering in favour of "Them".

At this point I feel like both camps are looked at as if they're entitled to play their way, and it's a coin toss to decide who gets vindicated going forward with this game. I hope they get it right.

Honestly no excuse on how poor that penalty system is.

I’m gonna take a break for a bit, I can control my car but I can’t like this and it’s all on GT on that one.

Yeah great “show me a what is sportsmanship video” and when you try to avoid something while being utterly pummelled. Nah that’s on them, not me. One of the worst racing experiences I’ve ever had and it’s the game not the players.

I’m done.

Don't think I've seen a lot of people in here actually enjoy the racing in any week for ages now. It's always "It's chaos this week, racing is bad, everyone around me sucks, roll on next week" as if anything will suddenly change.

Have to wonder what you're holding on for at this point, whilst so blatantly not enjoying any of the time spent playing? With some of you it's like laying in a bed of needles and complaining it's sharp.

After an initial try on the RCF at Autopolis ('32.9), I noted few things. I simply destroy the tyres in 3 laps (1st) and I can't extract a good time from it (2nd). It's very "snappy-bitchy" like her Gr3 sister. I jumped then in the NSX. It's way less snappy and I'm almost 1 sec faster ('32.2). Still the tyres die in 3 laps. Wondering how I can make them last for the race without overheating them. 🤔
There's a lot to work on before I can even think to race. Not in a good place right now. 🫤

I found out re the NSX after switching from the Nissan. I had noticed that I was able to catch up with NSX drivers towards the end of the race in the Nissan, which is much kinder to its tyres.

Having now switched to the NSX, which is proving faster overall, I do see the front tyres wearing down pretty dramatically - this does tend to force a mid-race tyre swap, as the understeer kicks in badly when the tyres are worn. The Nissan could stop earlier, or later, as the handling didn't deteriorate so badly on worn tyres.

I caught up with a couple of NSXs yesterday, who had probably stopped early (or not changed tyres at the stop), and they proved easy to get past in the last couple of laps.

Well I’m going to attempt some redbull junior races this afternoon, just need to do a little more on the loft boarding exercise which I started,

You never know, might be lucky enough to bump into a decent lobby, as I did when the spa race B was here a few weeks ago, enjoy all

Today must've taken part in 10-15 Race A's. At times, the start & a few turns go clean whereas at times it's mayhem. I've stopped pondering about how my DR/SR will look after each race because most of the times, matters aren't in Your hands.

I just love the combo so keep playing Race A only. This has been the first week in many weeks of daily races that I started to participate in where only one daily race (A) I keep playing. Otherwise there's been two if not three great races to play on a loop.

Anyway, just one more day more to see what's the next trio of daily races in store for us.

IMHO, it's all about perspective. Does it suck getting senselessly blasted to Narnia? Sure. But I can't/won't let it erode the absolute blast I'm having the rest of the time I'm in there. So much fun to be had, lol.

That said, I'm still amazed I'm racing 9 - 15 people from around the world in real-time. I think that childish baseline excitement compensates for a lot of the other BS.😁

Similar sentiments Mate. I rather race 14 or 15 like minded & similar skilled users who will defend or attack as per the situation instead of racing with that many number of AI's who just follow a similar baseline trajectory through a lap.

At times if I get hit or touch I can even understand it was a racing incident or not intentional. As we all are humans, we will always make a wrong judgement here or there which I'm ok with & accept.

Agree 100% 👍

I'm a 70 year old child, but do acknowledge that some people take this a lot more seriously than I do - I'm just in it for the (occasional) fun!

I think it’s fair that we should all just have fun, but there is from my perspective a higher standard that I hold some of my peers 2.

No hubris or entitlement meant or implied but my pace is fairly rapid in this game which puts me sometimes in very fair and respectable lobbies other times it doesn’t but I do feel for a certain pace level and show of car control that it’s not unfair or misguided to expect the same car control, awareness and pace fairness.

To be honest that’s my experience mostly that they are, but when the lobby isn’t a great one AND the game is so awful with its penalties it really does grate after the time and effort I put in.

Also from my perspective after 6.2k daily races these incidents become something like death by 1000 cuts. It’s not taking it to serious or not enjoying the game it’s just comparitively to a lot of people I’ve seen, had more of these incidents etc

Initially when I started racing online, I was only taking part in lobbies but chose those only which had my preferred kind of tracks. I was once a part of a lobby in which a group were there & were all clean racers. It was where we had Gr. 3 cars & the OP of that lobby would switch to a new track with the same cluster of users. It was real fun. But finding a good lobby with clean racers is not always easy.

So I chose to compete in daily races & racing either way online is addictive. Earlier I used to come online just for TTs or weekly races but I barely touch them. I just put a few laps in the TT that could be good enough for silver or gold times & then I return back to daily races.

Mate when it’s a car crash of a week there is absolutely no harm in sharing it or voicing your frustration.

You hold the game on a pedestal and rightly so, because it can be THAT good, people from all over the world (or our region at least) racing the game how it’s meant to raced.

But…. 😉 here and there it just doesn’t reach expectations and that’s ok too because life isn’t perfect. I believe this is the best racing we can find on a console with players worldwide. No point doing pc racing etc but also no harm to step away for a little while until you feel like it again, I mean it’s free right? 😁

You wait next week will be good and we’ll be back fighting for tenths on the leaderboard and sharing our fun.

I decided to try improving my time in A, didn’t quite get past @NevilleNobody but there’s always tomorrow.

I did get a win though, 2 infact, first one I was bumped into the lead from 4th and the other I drove through a pile up and was 6 seconds clear after half a lap 🤷‍♂️

Anyway I’ve not relied on GT this week but I hope to next 😆
