Don't race a lot these days. Took the old Aston Martin Gr.3 to Laguna Seca. 1:24:7 after some laps.

Changed to the new 911. 1:23:8 instantly (well, it took 3 laps). This one is so comfortable to drive. Especially on the breaks. Maybe I'll start being a meta/911 driver.

Looking forward to this one!

How was the tire and fuel wear?

Assume you changed tires. Did you need fuel?

Here's this weeks guide for those interested! I wish they didn't just copy paste the June week with B & C.. Some very quick changes would have made them better. While I know they don't care much about dailies it does feel like they really, really just don't care at all about any part of sport mode.

Tyre wear will vary across cars but it's better to change them when pitting. Additional fuel isn't required though.

Thanks @Tidgney as always. Really looking forward to seeing Your experience across these 3 daily races.

Unreal racing at Tokyo today.

A healthy mix of fierce competitiveness and liberal exploitation of contact/wall physics. The draft-overtake dynamic cannot be underestimated, and these cars are stable and manageable enough to attempt overtakes at nearly every corner.

This is the final lap in probably the best race I've had so far...

Qualifying within the Top 100 is essential, and the front 4 were constantly swapping positions, everyone has their turn in P1 (I led for a lap or so early on, but coordination from those behind ensured it wouldn't last long). The German behind qualified in 2nd so he was a constant threat and it all culminated in a fine finish with the top 5 within 1.0 sec of each other.

Classic

So, after doing some pleasant qualy laps in the new 911 (where the time went down even a bit further to, i think, 1:23,5 (I'm sure i can find more time)) i drove my first race in that car.

Also a very pleasant experience. In the new Porsche i can brake later, which means less stressful looking at the radar if you get bombed because racecraft in lower B isn't that sohosticated.

I think i qualified 4th or 5th. Of course i fumbled it in the first two laps because I'm always a bit nervous around real people. Wen back to 8th. But others had the same problems or worse, so i established 4/5th mostly.

Exactly at halftime the whole field pitted. As i wanted to find out what the tires can do (normally I'm all for fresh tires) i just stayed out until the final round. Them all pitting exactly at half time of course made me thinking and nervous as it seemed the all established that you should change tires.

So from lap 8 on I tried to not overdrive the car, which was hard as i already felt the affect of the worn tires by then. But I managed and managed to hold the 24 seconds to second place for a long time. Pitted in lap 13, of course didn't change tires, went out 1 second behind P1 and P2, two seconds in front of P4. Could hold on to that and even challenge P2 a bit.

Fun one and very satisfying.

Now i know i can use both strategies depending on the situation, which is great.

Edit: On controller, weak ABS, TC 0. So not very tire friendly. Brake balance completely to the back after about a third of the race when i started thinking and sweating.

Love that car. Only have to find out when to shift.

Anyone getting rank issues?

My DR was high B at the threshold of A, & when I won a race, it changed to an empty bar but still at B rank.

When I lose it goes back to full bar B rank, as though it's a visual bug but even in my page it does the same

Is your SR at B, by any chance?
It's a known display bug when your DR is limited from advancing by your SR.

In essence, it shows your progress on the next DR rank (so almost nothing through A in your case), but because your DR rank can't rise due to your SR (SR B prevents DR from rising beyond B) it displays the lower rank (DR B). It thus looks like you're at the bottom of the lower rank.

I'm going to guess you had a DR reset recently, due to your SR falling a couple of ranks down. Increasing your SR back to the level of what should be your actual DR will automatically restore your DR to the right level (as you see from BB to AA) - whereas in GT Sport it actually reset your points and you had to work back up.

Appreciate the detailed race report! I’m also low B and starting at the sharp end of the grid with a 1:23. Gonna try the no tyre change strategy and see how it works.

Enjoying Laguna so far, but it’d be better if you had to worry about fuel as well. Two tire compounds would also be nice!

Firmware updated and a few laps done with the new wheel!

Mate that’s awesome, new wheel feel is great isn’t it? I wonder what new £300 wheel feels like though 😆 and hate to say it but that’s a lot of bottles there, you don’t need the glasses anymore? Straight from the bottle? Don’t worry you’re in the right place, my names Glen and I’m a GT racer!

Do you know what mate, I was going to message you from psn when I saw this combo? It’s great isn’t it, that was a really great watch I’ll be weekend long in that one when I get back 😁

It's so very cool. Exactly what I'm here for.

I should have put a lot more time into the Corolla race from last week, but I came out of hospital last Monday after having emergency surgery, and a tuning race with no ABS demanded a little too much of my attention for me to really enjoy it.

This Golf race reminds me of one of my proudest GT Sport moments at the same layout. There was a Nations race here very early on (back in the days when I occasionally would take part), using the Toyota GT86 where myself and another Spanish flag-waver ran a tight head to head battle for the win over 20 or so laps, which I ended up winning by about a car length. One of my biggest regrets about losing all my GTS Replay files and one of the reasons I always share my replays for posterity!

For those wondering how the 2 Japanese drivers are so far in front in the daily A leader board.

I have zero respect for players like this, who hide their replays as they chase an almighty prize of zero dollars for winning the TT.

I knew it had to be ASM when I saw the time differential as I’ve just been doing some lunch time laps.

It’s quite disappointing they are hiding their replays but it tells you a lot about proud of the laps they are….. ;)

Edit: it bugs me because it skews my average delta time.

There is really every type of race available in Race A. The dynamics are extremely variable. No race is ever over (I only took exception when someone slammed me into the wall with enough force to erase my revs and half of my SR bar), and rubbing is very much en vogue.

Most calamities can be avoided by sticking with the leaders, but lightning reflexes, and decision making, are often required when jostling at maximum momentum. There's balance, I think because everyone is acutely aware that no-one comes away unharmed if things get really messy, and most people don't fancy pootling along by themselves for 5 minutes.

It's quite unique in the sense that losing some pace isn't the end of the world, but also, nobody really wants to engage in full-on warfare.

There's so many people that love to cheat and use exploits in this game it's not surprising.

Wish PD would automatically invalidate qualifying laps that detect any settings change from the moment you cross the line.

& I wish they'd put Controller/wheel symbols next to people's name so we can see what hardware they used on their lap, & filter by hardware.

Also wish they'd force you to use the car you qualified in for the race, but that'll never happen

It’s really not that they are using ASM, I mean really if it helps people use it to get good times and more importantly race safely.

Nothing against assists personally, it’s that they hide the replays so you can’t see what they are doing.

Honestly there are fast controller peeps and slow wheel peeps I don’t think that really is the thing personally.

The main thing is race with your head switched on, clean and fairly and start to analyse and up the pace is all you can do.

Edit: will leave the mid week as it is, off to York for a few days but had a decent couple of days at dragon trail

How’s everyone finding this week?

Which races you racing?

Race B is a brand new track to me and have enjoyed it in quali as it’s a fun track and managed to get a 1.40.4xx for P1-P4 starts in B but Jesus Christ the dive bombing here is absolutely insane, people just launching it in from half a second back!

I’m beginning to see a bit of a theme here in the race B’s are they always just a bit of a destruction derby due to the short nature of them?

How is race C? Think I’m going to try and learn it tomorrow as it’s also new to me and camp out there for the rest of the week if it’s a bit more strung out and less punts.

Oh and also received my first bit of racism which is also a nice little surprise to spice up a Tuesday eve 🤷‍♂️

@newmedia_dev enjoy York, one of my favourite cities, had a few rugby tours up there after paying in the Pocklington 7’s

I really enjoy the slow car races on this track and was lucky to qualify so well, but I somehow always lost a few places going into the tunnels. Great racing with you and the others :)

I'm confused too! Is ASM not allowed in Race A, is that the issue?
No it’s the fact they use the assists and hide the replays. That’s quite annoying as it has a material impact on the time.

It’s not a great thing to do.

For you and I it makes absolute zero difference at all, I’m no where close to their times!

It’s the hiding the replay to pretend they aren’t using the assists is the main point. Assists are allowed and ok to use so no one will judge but don’t hide it, own it.

Ah, I get it now.

I thought I'd try with ASM, it was slower for me (no need to hide my replay 😂).

I haven't tested it yet but ASM on for Race A slows the car a bit when turning so it's a bit faster overall because it allows for coasting instead of braking into turns. So I assume having ASM off in the full throttle turns allows to keep more momentum while on everywhere else allows for less braking.
