I entered my first Race B of the week after setting my PB QT.

Good to see @BuzzdoggZ in the lobby.

Started around p5 finished p8. There was a collision in front of me and I slowed to avoid the fallout (turned out it wasn't necessary as just as I was about to impact their car ghosted). Then got swamped and lost concentration. Then it was playing catch-up and damage limitation.

BuzzdoggZ had good race up ahead I think. P3!
You were unlucky having to take evasive action, while I was far enough behind the collision that I could carry on full speed through the ghosts and off on my merry way. It also helped that you were then holding off the pack behind, much appreciated 👍

I bet you've gone and beaten my bloody time!!!!

You going to get some more races in?
Yes he has, and my time too, the little get 😆

Can't even go to work in peace without fear and getting tumbled down the leaderboard!!!
Don’t worry you’ve a decent enough time to keep you in the top half, depending on how many mates you have got 🤣

I’m finding it tough going at Yama, seem to be massively overdriving the car to hang on those kerbs to pull myself around and it just isn’t working

Drop down to B with me and it's wins galore
Stop sandbagging and come up to A.

Has anyone had much luck finding a non meta winner for Race C?

I've been running the Hyundai VGT. It has the kind of profile where it's lightning in the straights but it's not too shabby on cornering either. I've had a few races where my pit strat has given me a good opportunity for podiums, but mostly over been shunted aside by hybrids in my second stint (I haven't been changing tyres, which is probably a factor in that).

I've been diving in the pits as early as lap 1 or 2 and I'm certain a player of a higher calibre and/or better at preserving rubber could have some luck.

@newmedia_dev thinking I may push the button on the PSVR2 how do you find racing without seeing the leaderboard and the time between you and the car behind etc… was reading that there is much less info on the VR?

Also the speedometer switches between mph/kph dependant on car doesn’t it? Is that confusing?

I love it.

Honestly losing some of the Race UI is initially annoying but you still have the mirrors and the ability to look next to you so it’s a better trade off.

With the mirrors you start to judge gaps quite well behind you the only time it’s awkward is not having either the position deltas or a track map for gauging pit traffic gaps otherwise the experience itself and the main hud (floating area above your eye line and the MFD) mean it’s just enough.

It’s not much less just the Delta position list track map that you don’t get, on the flip side cars with dynamic dashes or wheel displays work which is quite cool for a little while.

To the question about the switching between imperial and metric once your in VR the actual numbers don’t mean much it’s about the feeling of the lap and quite honestly it’s the glances at the Rev counter not the speedo you’ll do.

Overall the VR feel makes you focus in a very different way to the 2d cams.

Edit:

@Nebuc72 i keep watching you improve car after car! Go over to the dark side with the meta ;)

Edit:

Now I know a 1:32 is there (just as I’ve moved my optimal down to nebus time)

Plus some brake release timing optimisations) I’m tired and not massively enjoying work right now so not quite on it.

Ah this week just isn’t my week, cannot get this damn pile of junk BM any quicker,

Using ghosts or watching videos, so I’ll just let this week play out at the of the races, is what it is.

@newmedia_dev I moved my sens back to auto on the back of your earlier comment and it does feel a little more natural but I think it’s still like 500 which I guess is quite normal for a gt3 car,

Frustrating week, 🧘

Jeez. How you boys are in the .5’s and lower is beyond mate! Bravo. I’m completely on the edge of my skill and can’t beat 6xx

@Nebuc72 im not even going to include you in that comment you absolute alien! Get yourself in the BMW and into the mid 32’s!!!!
Its currently only 3:35pm here in Sydney so I am still at work...I finish soon and I am going to go straight home and register for a Race A...do some qualifying laps...then see how I go 👏
How did it go? Did you get some races in?
Stop sandbagging and come up to A.

I’m still trying 😂😂😂 2 x P1, 3 X P2 and 2 X P11 😂🤦‍♂️ last race I needed 200 Dr to get back to A! That was a P11!!
I love it.

Thank you mate, the wife is toying with the idea of buying me one so may just let her based on your recommendation.

Hopefully something clicks in the races mate, I’ve had it before where I couldn’t find time and then after 4 or 5 races you start seeing people’s lines and something clicks!

Have you tried the 911? I found it faster than the M6.

I'm slower in the BMW, can't get it to work for me round here. I like to play to my own strengths than chase the meta car anyway, I'm usually fastest in the R8.

Yeah no idea how guys are finding so much time, I feel like I am absolutely hustling and get a 34 flat.

Brockie try the Porsche, you can really get it to tuck it's nose in and lay on the gas much better than the vacuum from Munich. It hates kerbs though, that's the trade off.

@Stringerbell, I can only applaud all the information given by @newmedia_dev as he has absolutely nailed the VR experience and it’s minor draw backs.
I have found the VR2 game play so totally immersive and enjoyable, I for 1 would never go back to 2D.
🤪🥳🤠

The experience outweighs the
Learned pains.

I personally won’t go back

I sold my VR as I didn't think it did anything for me or the experience, so tit for tat ;)

But you like how you drive, the desire isn’t immersion it’s something else.

Also your time this week I have it in my sights!

Pragmatically I really don’t have an opinion on control type or cam preference but for me it unlocked pace but just a different way

Yeh for sure. Figured it's always good to weigh it in though as when it's the topic of discussion in this thread its stemming from a "I love VR, I'm so much faster in it" POV, so you don't get the whole picture where it doesn't necessarily mesh with what everyone's looking for. PSVR2 specifically I have a lot of bugbears with regarding it's small sweet spot and low screen resolution which I think are important to consider.

Time wise.. mission accomplished. Not going to be pushing any more for this one , so best of luck with the chase!
The lap has started driving me mad with all the kerb riding and hopping, feels like I'm just hoping to get lucky to not get spat out, then I have to somehow not bottle it.

Disastrous few races this evening. When it goes wrong in race B it goes terribly wrong with the groups of cars at high speed. Never fully comfortable, having to ease off to avoid collisions or make mistakes and get swapped = race over.

Question: if someone is already starting to spin out and you unintentionally tap them, making things worse, is waiting the right thing to do or would you just plough on?

Was in a lobby with @Barney Da Dog for a couple. What did you make of it, mate?

One late last night...one this morning. Both were very underwhelming performances on my behalf ☹️

There is much learning being done...but that's why I jumped in when I did (about 50% done in the Menu Books and same in the Licenses)...to learn what I don't yet know and need to concentrate on moving forward.

I definitely need to register further in advance for each race to get some more trial laps done with the standard car before the race.

QUESTION: What's the best way to get some practice laps in (i.e. before the actual race, in the car if I don't already own it)? Can I set a qualifying time in Sport Mode without registering for a race?

Yeah it's tense in race B because I like to pass really clean, so you approach a squabbling pack carefully but risk the guys behing bombing in on you as they are far less careful. See the race i linked to last night, I was pretty careful and made up 5 spots in the last lap but could easily have been barged off by the aggressive guy behind.

@Nebuc72 that is really sch an impressive time, well done.

I think I'm at the limit of my skill - going to try and find an hour to pour over some replays and try and find a bit of time at the weekend, but I think I know what needs to be done but just can't put it into action.

Yes I know you're a big fan, i'm still weighing it up, I've found some pace recently so not sure if I want to upset the apple cart with changes.

Yeah in these sprint races in Gr3, once you're off line or make a mistake it's so easy for 5 or 6 cars to fly past you.

Case by case on the contact mate I think mate, such a judgement call with things like that and I'm still finding my way as well.

haha it's a learning process mate, when I stared my dailies I had zero idea of anything that was going on, the experience will come quick and then addiction starts :)

Yes you can 100% spend as much time in free qualifying as you want - If I remember rightly, select enter with rented car but instead of clicking enter again, click on the stopwatch next to the enter button and it will put you into qualifying without a countdown.

Good luck in the races, looking forward to hearing about your first win!!!!

I'm happy to give more advice but i'm wary of falling into the trap I did with @Lightsider74 where I gave him my beginner advice only to find out he had way more experience and was faster than me, so I was sitting here teaching him to suck eggs!!!!

Yeah there are not a lot of places to pass here, I find you just have to wait for a mistake and then capitalise. Although I must say I feel like the dive bombing/push to pass seems better this week with the wider track and less slow corners than it was at Daytona and RBR the last few weeks.

But it does always make me nervous when you know you have to brake early due to the congestion in front and you just feel that the guy behind is going to take the normal braking point and sling it down the inside via the side of your car 🤦‍♂️

One thing I've really focused on this week is giving up positions unless it's lap 4 onwards and then just tucking in behind, this has definitely kept me in races where I think my previous belligerent nature would have got me spun out.

Don’t forget to try the circuit experiences, they will give you a rundown on the lap in short pieces.

If you have the time, just take one sport race per week, do a little each day and by the weeks end you should good to race and the know the track enough, plenty of YouTube material on track help, braking points etc available.

Good luck

Thanks team...I am loving it all.

I have a PS4/T598 for use where I stay on the weekends and a PS5/T598/SF1000 for where I am during the week, so as far as addiction goes I am just getting started (but know the feeling well).

I am looking forward to shaving seconds off my lap time at the Trial Mountain Circuit and get into some competitive racing.

No mate. It's always good to bounce ideas and advice around for each other. I'm still relatively new to GT7 and even more so to sport mode with just 150 or so races completed.

At that particular time I was genuinely wondering where you and others were finding the sort of pace needed!

The races last night I felt out of my depth. My QT was only good enough to start in the very lower parts of the grid. Lots of YT streamers in there....
