Pretty grim right now eh? I think it’s been coming for a while, the kids are now off so happy to miss the lunch ones,

Got my garage to sort Saturday so that should see the weekend out 🤣

Next week though.

Pumped for it 💪
Yeah it is, and honestly I think it’s deliberate for reasons, probably spec 3.

What I do find interesting is they know this will be peak player engagement for the younger demographics with the school holidays across most of the world or at least larger player base areas.

So some of the selections I appreciate aren’t fresh for us or a bit meh, they also aren’t the highlight the pinnacle of GT or GT sport mode either which is sorta odd.

Also I’d imagine mid November to early 2027 will see a considerable drop because let’s face it GTA 6 has a pull no other game can match in that window or probably ever atm.

Agree, the TT ideally should be interesting cars on tracks u don't see them on. Goodwood is due one, maybe get the XBow there or something.
Or clios or polos or supras just something.

To be fair the FTO is fine for that one, would have personally picked a shorter track but that’s preference.

Goodwood is great, but what about A45s at deep forest? What about 458s at tm, the point making is that it’s either quirky races (samba bus) or highly curated novelty or rinse and repeat

Some of those TTs for example would make cracking daily races,

Toyota 86 and deep forest reverse
Alfa Gulieta at Lago Maggiore
Mazda roadster at Road Atlanta

Just need three different race A to accompany the gr3/4 alts weekly

The issue is, is that there are people out there playing offline that WOULD join in online races, should they have consistent road cars events. The numbers are misleading because the majority of the Sport Mode community are expectant of Group 3 or 4 races for the most part.

The metrics for participation can't account for the section of the player base who don't even bother logging in to check the races because they've become so disenfranchised due to the current status quo.

That's my theory, anyway.
Honestly I think it's just a numbers game, as soon as they roll out GT3 at Spa the numbers rise for example.
Edit: just to add, I don't think this is right nor wrong. It's just the way it is.

But to be fair to your point, I don’t think a lot of offline racers would enjoy sport mode the way we do.

It’s a different conciously or subconsciously asking for different things of most people:

Accepting people make mistskes

Accepting you can’t always win

Accepting that racing contact has a different social contact in sports mode vs offline.

You are assuming that offline conditioning (this is a pd problem I’ve spoken at length about before) translates to progressive online improvement and enjoyment.

If we take daily A for example there is usually a monumental class leap in pace from the front to the mid pack, that’s not typically the offline experience

Thanks as usual, but this is just not getting me excited anymore, gr4 tm

I will be back for my early morning race but I’ll be enjoying lunch with the kids and this turns into an arcade racer rather than really pushing times etc

Taksuba too doesn’t do much

But I hope someone’s finding a fix with this, hopefully I’ll get my S SR back

Yeah I'm this person. It takes the right combination of car and track to get me excited to play sport mode. More road cars isn't what is going to draw me in. I understand mistakes happen and that winning isn't something I am guaranteed. The main reason I require the right combination of car and track is because I loathe the other humans who play sport mode. The odds of having a clean race are less than 5% regardless of my safety rating. The odds of having someone get butthurt and wreck me because I passed them is higher than 50%.

Fix those two things and I'm playing sport mode every week not just when I really like the combo.

To me that's the biggest problem. Not the combinations PD gives us but just how horrifically bad the experience is more often than it isn't. Like someone jumps into sport for the first time and plays a whole week. Odds are pretty good they're going to have a bad time and it takes a very specific desire to push through that experience just to get to where it won't happen every time just about half the time.

I'd bet a lot of people who do not play sport mode regularly have tried it at least 5 times and have had junk experiences more often than not. Why bother when skill and pace are never rewarded and the best way to advance is to wreck the car in front of you?

The thing is, the more you play sport mode, the more the ppl around you get to know you and if you’re dirty you will undoubtedly attract the same, the SR matters hugely as right at the top of S it’s clean with ppl wanting to hang on to that rating.

I can jump into race after race and know my opponents by and large, those messages at the start generally relax the lobby I feel because folk will be clean with folk they know and have raced before,

Your points are spot on for casual drivers, ppl who haven’t matured into daily racing because for sure you have to drive a certain way around certain ppl to make them know your intentions, slowing down after a bump is a huge thing,

For me the player base isn’t the problem, I don’t even think the penalties are either, it’s the variety. I do love a gr3 or 4 for the tracks where I feel it works and I’ll enjoy, but I do feel the game is so vast in its car count that could put certain cars with certain tracks, and shuffle them, but that formula will take some creation and upkeep.

Beyond the staple of gr3/4 cars, B & C are spot on rotating between sprint and endurance each week, this just needs a bunch more tracks, Road America, Silverstone, plenty to choose from the various F1, Touring championships worldwide,

The gr3/4 all need to be updated and current and throw some one make, RWD only into that mix and sort the bop so is not a meta fest every week

The there should be the same in road cars, sprint and endurance but I’d like to see combos voted on so any with a real high rating could be used again, 3 times per year max,

Sport just doesn’t cover everyone’s car culture like the game does.

But in any case, I’m happy to miss a few weeks out here and there rather than race combos I’m not keen on whilst those do come up and they will from time to time

Agree about variety. They should rotate the tracks race to race or at least daily imho.

Regarding the penalties, I think too many people must genuinely feel inside dive bombing using the outside car as a cornering/braking aid, is fair game. If PD made the penalties as strict as they should be for that shizzle then I'm sure these people simply would stop playing and they'd struggle to fill the lobbies.

I can't concentrate on nailing the corners as I'm usually also bracing for impact much of the time.

Agree. It'd be something at least.

Another issue which I'm not sure there's a solution to is the DR/match making. It's as though it's almost too accurate. For someone like me who is high B - low A what I find is the gulf in skill/consistency levels from low B to high A - A+ is massive. This results in being either absolutely caned if you're put in a high A/A+ lobby or winning 5/8 races out on your own if you're put in a low to mid B lobby. If you're put in a group with near identical skill levels one mistake leaves you very little chance of making up any places leading too excessive frustration. Add that to the time between races and I find I waiting around more than actually playing and enjoying it.

Admittedly this is only based on a couple of hundred races. YMMV.

Edit. Was thinking about some possible improvements. Maybe doing away with DR E, D, C, B etc and replacing it with the actual number from 0 - 50,000 would give players a better idea of what to expect in a given lobby and/or resetting a players QT daily might help. I know I've done a couple of never-to-be-repeated qually laps which means I've started out of position/skill level on the grid.

I think having a 2 or 3 lap qualifying before every race would make things much more interesting.

Stops being grinding the hell out of quali to get that hot lap (something I’m guilty of as well) and would mean you’re starting in different places on the grid each race.

How’s Destiny 2 treating you? I’ve been hammering the latest Elden ring nightreign with my boy. Been tons of fun

decided to put my SR back with some racing at GV and so far it’s going well, a few DR drops but SR is on the increase, good to see @benjoi84 although I completely forgot how to brake at all and descended on those giant corner marshmallow looking things as my corner play things!

I think I’m looking forward to gr4 trial mountain tbh 🤣

It's treating me very well thanks - I'm well into it again. Also playing it with my lad in a fireteam which is a win/win as it's helping keep him off the social media junk.

I am going to return to Elden at some point but as I said before I'm well and truly stuck for now at a certain boss in Shadow of the Erdtree. (Can't recall his name now....)

Edit: Thus is the one.

I think I will come back for Trial Mountain. Never actually raced it as always preferred the other race when it was on.

Going to go on the alt and try and get it from high B into A as I don’t feel the motivation to grind laps and search for the fastest time I can do.

Hopefully see you out there!

So nice doing it with them isn’t it!

Oh yeah that boss was a savage! Great cut scene though!

If I remember rightly I used talisman where it drew ago and i used that summons where you duplicate yourself. Then once he was he and running I took it off me annd it stayed on the summons and he took a lot of the Aggro and I spammed the L2 on blasphemous Blade. Took a long time to get past him though.

This nightreign is good by the way, it’s like a 45 min repeatable mini Elden ring where you fight a different boss at the end in teams of 3
Managed a win 🥳
Lovely jubbly!

I mostly went for the Daily B this week.

I know, it wasn't really tempting this combo, but somehow, after five months of struggle and despair, I've finally managed to finish the transition from gamepad to wheel.

Clocked in a 1:25,029, which means I've actually improved my pace.

So... I think I'm done for this week.

Good effort bro, enjoy the wheel and if you need any psn friends to leaderboard chase, we’re you’re guys!

Well done mate, that's no mean feat.

There are some really quick guys across the DR spectrum
Well, now you mention it, the race after you was me in pole and a bunch DR C behind me 🤣

Following race the same, but I got beaten to the chequered flag 😁

But really nice clean racing and very almost back at SR S

But thanks 😂

I’ve been looking through, I’m sure the last time we had gr4 trial mountain the normal way, the Bugatti was the meta and after hating it, there was a specific way to drive it and short shift and it was a real decent week,

I’d be happy with a lambo or 458 week for a change too

Edit. Good racing in A today, super clean and respectful, you know you haven’t raced much when the daily mileage thing pops up 😂

Garage is super clean, but I’m looking forward to next week, gr4, trial mountain, this is GT
