That makes a lot of sense. Giving up maybe a tenth to gain MANY tenths and seemingly making for an overall safer approach to the CoD. I think I did 50 or 51 laps yesterday...and almost all were invalid.
I feel your pain. What's also very frustrating potentially: once you do nail the CoD you'll suddenly carry so much more speed that the braking point you memorised for the last turn no longer works. Happened more than once to me 🙈

This is very true
And the best CoD's are the ones that you are certain that you will hit the left wall in the end but the curb saves you from that or something, it just feels way to fast for comfort, ( can imagine the VR experience must be thrilling here! )
But the difference in speed for the last turn was a real thing for me too, missed my braking point tomany times there

Good advice given!

Hi,

@crome...

"I feel your pain. What's also very frustrating potentially: once you do nail the CoD you'll suddenly carry so much more speed that the braking point you memorised for the last turn no longer works. Happened more than once to me 🙈"

I think this is called "Chaining" - When you string or chain a set of corners together perfectly. Then arrive at the next point, 1 second early or 50+MPH faster than you usually manage!

That last paragraph. Right there. Is the complete story of my entire time spent playing Gran Turismo!!!

On a similar, but un-related ( Sort of!?!? ).

Just finished a session at Watkins Glen in the, really rather lovely, Lexus. I think I am close to my limit here. Too late on the brakes or too early on the throttle. All "chained" out now! 😁

Very best regards to all here.

Ian.

I did that in real life at Rockingham in a Nissan GT-R, with I think Wolfgang Reip in the passenger seat... I just bailed and went through the gap in the cones.

Edit: The layout we were using was a version of the BTCC track, with a chicane as the first corner instead of staying on the banking. I couldn't get it right until I did, and then braking at the "O" as I had done every time before that was about 20m too late.

Later on that session I also set fire to the brakes, so that car had a bit of a workout.

About eight years later I boiled the brake fluid of a MY17 GT-R while lapping Spa (a day after arriving at Spa from Munich having done an entirely legal 186mph on the Autobahn), then a couple of months later set an all-comers journo lap record at Thruxton in another one (before getting a tank-slapper at 111mph  ).

I always have a bit of a time in GT-Rs :D

And what about me, I usually hit all four sides when try to go fast through it... 😄
It kills me.

BTW, there is no single Croatian flag on track, I was paying attention on that important detail.
On other tracks, there are packs of national flags, but here is none, not even on boats.

Did you check on other fictionnal tracks too ? I don't remember seeing USA flags at Trial Mountain for example.

New stint at DT, improved a bit, COD is killing my lap times, used data logger to compare to some guy with 1:29.000 he arrives into COD with 50kph more than me and exits also with 50kph more, well I know where I have some time to gain...

How to watch a replay of leaders?
I see replay icon but it only gives me option to download ghost...
Have they changed something in time when I was off?

I have to admit that UI in this case is confusing. You can watch it before you actually enter TT. Go on leaderboard and there you can watch it. When you enter TT you can only load ghost.

In the data-logger you can load a replay from the top guys as a comparison lap.

Other than that when you enter the time trial, you have a first step before getting really inside the TT mode, where you can chose your car, and there is a leaderboard where you can watch replays.

Once you've entered completely the TT mode (and before pushing "Start") you can only load ghosts.

Last night’s attempt at Seaside in the Zonda. Will give it a try tonight again. Incredible car, perhaps not the best track for it but let’s avoid the complaints when we have such a beauty to drive. Took quite some time to get into it, the esses were giving me most trouble, in particular the second left where you have to ride the giant kerb on your right and avoid the gravel trap. Eventually got that part more under control, CoD is of course crazy in such a quick car but just keep pushing, give it a slight lift and hope you make it through.

I had one lap I would’ve been proper happy with, had .816 at the split just before CoD, also went through CoD really well and all remaining was the “easy” final corner which I of course screwed up by braking like almost a second too late and went way too deep. Still salvaged that one to a .376 which wasn’t bad but should’ve been so much better. On my PB lap so far that split is .898.

Edit: 2h 30m and no improvement. Yeah, ****ing chicane goes:

What happened to me right now @ Dragon Trail Seaside:

I doubt there will be redemption...
Simply no luck.

It’s easier to give advice if you have the HUD on.

Happy New Year everyone!

Took a bit of a break from doing trials over the holidays, just put in single sessions to get safe golds and moved on.
Now that its back to work time, its also back to time trialing.

Have to say, this was a fantastic car on the wrong track. It is simply too stiff for the kerbs here and I spent most of the my initial laps getting flung off in random directions because I hit a kerb at the wrong angle.

Wasn't until the end of my sessions that I was finally managing to get through CoD with any kind of respectable pace. Nearly called it a day with a .68X but noticed @NAXEHT had managed a .3, couldn't let myself be more than 2 tenths away given how close we normally are, so hit the old restart button and went again.

Managed to find this insane lap (by my standards), fastest S1 I've recorded and probably the fastest I've gone through CoD. Probably left another tenth on the table from wheel spin on the exit of T2 and the final corner, but other than that it was pretty much optimal.

Didn't realise it at the time, but watching the replay back, I noticed I was quite close to every single wall involved with the CoD including the entry wall. Super lucky not to invalidate this lap. Also just realising I forgot to take a photo of the exit wall which also felt quite close.

Looking forward to the LC500 at Watkins. That car has a fantastic exhaust note and Watkins is an enjoyable track so that should be a fun one.

@crome many thanks for that tip - it made for...less...invalidated laps, and I feel like I got through quite a bit quicker.

I laid down a lap that was faster than yesterday's very shortly into tonight's session, and then a few laps later down to a .720, and eventually a .536

The problem is, my theoretical best is a .088 - dangling the damn carrot! But it makes sense - there were plenty of places I was making up time at on subsequent laps - it was just doing that and not running into a wall at 140 mph that I wasn't able to do before I called it for the night. But I'm much happier being down into the 1:30.5's...though I'm still probably gonna go back at it one more time tomorrow and see if I can get myself a quick, clean lap, without seeing my virtual life flash before my eyes (because this track, in real life, would have killed so, so many people  )

I made a boo boo, I came to the Zonda TT too late and am now starting to hate this combo. I like both the car and track, but perhaps not together. The curbs and the Zonda's tendency to go airborne are one problem, but I can get over that, sometimes literally. The bigger issue is the much-maligned COD. I hate it in this car; I can nail many a lap up until that point, and then I either panic and hit one of several walls, or go gung ho and..... hit one of several walls. I must have done about 60 laps yesterday, and only about 5 were clean, and that's because I'd chickened out and crawled through the COD.

So I may have to settle for a high silver this time 😩

Great, glad it helped! Speaking of tips, thanks to @Vule and @Barareklam for the advice on T1 at Watkins Glen. Coasting and accelerating in 3rd indeed made me consistently faster in S1. Still a majority in the 31.5 to 31.6 range, but also the occasional 31.4. One of them led to this lap:

Already very happy with this and hoping it will stay in top 100, but I might still give it another shot tonight (there's some untapped potential in S2) before the shiny new thing steals my attention tomorrow ...

Happy lapping!

Edit: interesting statistical nugget - I am currently #58 in the world, but only #13 in Germany. @bigfluffy888 sits right behind me at #64 worldwide, but is the top US driver. What's up with that? :D

That's a very promising laptime!

Yeah there is something about Germans, I don't know.... 😂 they keep getting faster....
I am still country rank 1 with 25 global now.. 😱.....but yeah... Chafe and de Bruin don't compete here.... 😂😂, no chance otherwise although dutch RTW-Ran and DMC B Assie are always mega fast too these days!

Holy ****... YES... NO... i don't know, should i be happy or angry? 😂😂

View attachment 1505958

A bit slow in sector one, a bit to safe through last 2 turns, but overall a great lap.
Probably the fastest run through the bus-stop i got so far and sector 3 was a personal best too. 😁
You see..... Germans..... , I rest my case.... 😂

*epic buddy! Go get him !
