Nice fun one, another challenge about momentum management and throttle control. This will do for now

I just put in damn near 200 miles in that horrible Zonda AND DID NOT GO ANY FASTER. I've watched the replays, including the #1, and that RH turn I was mentioning, how can everyone else cut it while my car goes absolutely flying?

What the actual **** am I doing wrong? I am at my wits end here.

I saved my replay (again: NOT EVEN MY FASTEST LAP by about one hundredth of a second), but I have not a clue how to get to it to get it on YouTube.

My theoretical best is a 1:30.208 or something infuriatingly faster than the .932 or whatever garbage is my fastest now. It just...doesn't happen.

Why are you not using the data logger?

Do you think a visual lap comparison would be something good for you to see where you can improve? Something similar shown in this image? With differences pointed out? Rather than data logger where it's just graphs?

I survived with 4.99% and got silver!

And then I see new TT, track one of my top 5 most loved - and car shows to be great, even on SH.

I've never been so close to leaders before (I know they will lowered further, but I'm proud on my first set of laps).

Here is the best one:

Man the Zonda is a pita. I actually initially had a tough time getting into silver! Then was stuck at about 4.5% for some time. Finally last night after a bunch of laps I managed to drop a few tenths again so now sit at about 4.15%. I doubt gold is in the cards for me in this one...

Always funny,

Often i have a look at the global times at the start of a new tt when i'm at work, i know how this turns out already...
Calster is P1 with a good gap, that would mean a pretty solid combo for the controller users, whoop whoop
then on you first laps you'll get slapped in the face because it seems to not be that easy of a car, i start blaming the understeer...., suspention.... snap oversteer ..... and say i'm maby dissapointed...
and within 3 sessions i am in love with it

Gave the new one a shot this morning and for I think the first time ever, I hit gold on day 1. In fact, I don't usually even get into silver on the first day of an event. Of course I'll probably be pushed to silver by the end of the day, but still a good start. The car is smooooooooth....

(actually I might have hit gold day 1 of those silly Daytona oval "ride the yellow line" events, but aside from those...)

The results for TT182 at Grand Valley - Highway 1 in the Toyota Supra GT Road Car (JZA80) are over here. I have updated the opening post with the index of all TTs and the second post with the community scoreboards. A reminder that each driver's results for every TT are in the Excel file attached to the latest results post.

Here are some interim statistics for TT183 at Dragon Trail - Seaside in the Pagani Zonda R '09.

Because I did not have the time yesterday (dinner had been ready for 15 minutes by the time I finally had enough of going into the dirt or the wall and shut down) and usually I tend to forget anyway. I may do this to look at the driving line and what not, but the few times I've looked at it (after waiting quite some time for it to load to do so), it's been a bit of data overload. But it also doesn't help me much if we're talking luck-of-the-bounce...perhaps I'm not taking that line though. The data logger also does not help laps ruined by the COD.

I think that would be an excellent way to compare, especially if you can slow it down, maybe see the throttles and brakes side by side, and then the steering inputs, and then both screens of where the car is. Watching someone's replay and then trying to replicate usually works, but in something like this, what I think I'm doing may not actually be what I'm doing.

I just don't get it, it feels like I am leaving so much time on the table but cannot string together a competent lap, even putting the COD aside. I have no feel for when she will bite and when she will just understeer off into the weeds. Even then if I somehow do manage to get to sector 2 at roughly 1 minute flat, COD inevitably does me in. There's so much understeer on the left hander before COD, I find the wall on the right 9 times from 10, it's just annoying now.

Same process on PS4?
If I remember correctly it very similar. Once you press the share button it should give you the option of either doing a screenshot or video. It will then be saved on your ps4 Gallery with every other screenshot you might have taken. (Gotta end the recording though by pressing the share button once again)

I feel your pain. I know I'm nowhere near the fastest, been 2 seconds off the very best times even in my prime but if I can't pull off the lap I just know I'm capable of it gets really really frustrating.

With the Zonda the pressure of the looming C.O.D just makes everything worse.

yep, it feels like you've got grip for days even as the car drives off the far side of the track...

It seems that the :gtpflag: community in general struggles a bit with the Zonda, as evidenced by @half_sourly's interim results. "Only" four top 100 times so far, one of them likely to drop out in the next few days*. Personally I am around my usual pace when comparing globally, and I don't find it all that frustrating, but I seem to be in the minority.

Don't really know what advice to give other than:
  • follow a fast ghost (helps in particular with positioning for the curb in that 3rd right-hander @MP81 and choosing the best line through the fast S2 corners)
  • don't hesitate to resort to assists. As always, I have CSA on strong, and TCS 2 for this one.

I do also invalidate a good 50 to 60% of my laps in the 🐔 of 💀 when driving at the limit, but since my S1 and S2 times are quite consistent, this is not too infuriating.

Best of luck!

*Edit: obviously in itself that's not an objective metric. In general our leaderboard outperforms the overall player base like it always does. E.g. 64 % gold versus 4 % globally ;)

Yup - usually follow Tidgney's ghost, sometimes will switch to the highest ranked one if I want to see if maybe a different line might work better for me if I am struggling. In this case, it all seems to be a similar line I am running...or trying to run.

Definitely got CSA on Strong for this one to even have a chance of making it around with TC0. Since I'm losing too much time...somewhere else...I found that TC2 or even TC1 was cutting the throttle a bit too much and losing me too much time.

Haven’t managed gold with either the supra or the zonda (yet)
I have a try to the Lexus one this morning and after 2 lap got gold (low 2.04). There is still time on the table for me and I’ll try get into the lows 2.03 for sure. I’ll try to keep you guys updated.

Quick question: how do we participate in the gtplanet leaderboard?

Hi,

Every now and then, a car / track combination comes along that I can relate to in a "blink". A Lexus and Watkins Glen seems to be one of them! I learned, a wee while back, that you can enter the "bus stop" at least 50 mph faster than you ever thought you could previously. A revelation indeed.

My first two sessions with the new TT produced this...

Very pleased with this time on day one. I am, very much, going to try and improve on this one.

Best regard to all here.

Ian.

I fail to see how someone can find this aircraft carrier fun. Tried it, binned it a couple of times and did very poor lap times. Next. Need to try the Zonda but not really motivated.
YOoooou can do it Lomic, the Zonda is very fun to drive the howl of that v12 is ecstatic enufff!!! Plz try and lets see how you go!!!
