Thought some glasses wearers might find this info useful.
Have been using VR2 for GT7 since Christmas 23, with my high prescription glasses (roughly -11 SPH, +1 ZYL, 85/95 deg axis). No issues with fit but I was always aware that the lenses were often touching the VR lenses, not during play, but whilst adjusting it all and moving the headset in as close as possible. Over time I realised this was causing minor scratching to both the VR and my glasses, to the point where it was noticeable, albeit generally not distracting whilst playing. I had thought of getting prescription lens inserts but never got around to it, and seemed pointless once the VR lenses were already scratched.
Fast forward 20 or so months and we were at the last snagging stages of a new kitchen (bear with me, it's connected!) and many of the cupboard doors had minor scratches. Replacements were ordered and they too had scratches; it seems the supplier was unable to prevent them getting scratched, which seemed ridiculous but there you go. Eventually we went through several cycles of this and managed to get the most obvious ones replaced with 'more or less' perfect ones, along with a compensation/hush money payment (so I can't say who it was). Immediately after this landed in our account I had the bright idea of suggesting to my wife that, given all of the stress we'd endured from builders, kitchen fitters etc, we should each just spend half of the money on whatever we fancied. Soon after that, you'll be unsurprised to hear, I landed on the idea of a new VR2 and prescription lens inserts. Buying a second VR2 seemed impossibly extravagant and would never have done it without the compo.
After watching some reviews I opted for inserts from VR Optician, but was worried given how high my prescription is, and there was very little info online about really short-sighted people using inserts (hence this post). I emailed them with my concerns and was reassured by the response, and placed my order. Cost was higher than normal due to the prescription, but delivery was very quick (I'm still waiting for my new glasses!) and I eagerly installed them in the new VR2.
On first use I was impressed with (a) how much closer I could get the VR lenses to my eyes and (b) how much clearer the image was without the scratches! On the first day I planned to play for a usual length of time, but started to feel a bit nauseous, something that hadn't happened since about day 5 of having the VR2. I put this down to a combination of the slightly increased immersion, with the VR lenses closer, and also the fact that this was the first time seeing through my new glasses prescription! On the second day I won a race at Yamigawa and didn't feel sick at all, and haven't since.
Very slight downside is that there is a little reflection between the VR and insert lenses, but I got this with glasses as well so not a big deal, and not off-putting at all. It's more noticeable with night races and worsened by cars with bright dash displays/rev indicators like the Gr3 RCF.
Overall TL;DR - if you're a glasses wearer (high prescription or otherwise) and on the fence about lens inserts - go ahead and get them.
