GTA Forum: Requests and Discussion

Agreed. I'll vote for almost any regular to take the job. 👍

KM -
I agree, any regular who has the best interests of the forum at heart then they will be more than able to fullfill the job.

Have any of you bothered ot use the report button? Have you? No really have you?

I'm just avoiding those threads, I feel it is a bit of a problem but I don't think things are that bad. I know we have a lot of new people but it wasn't as bad as I expected.

It was worse!. But alot of the threads names were changed so they didnt have spoilers in the title.
But i agree with Jimmy by 2morrow its gonna be worse.

Yes. I did.

It's only just been released. Think of the next few days.

I'm hoping it won't be that bad, but I don't know so much. Plus, you weren't here when it was happening. We generally got it calmer, but before-hand it was mayhem. Even Spuds will agree with that.

We just gotta hope we can get through these nest two days, without hearing to much.

Well, when the game comes out, I'll be fine. I'll enter the Mission Help Threads, etc. I'll just simply try and ignore any missions I haven't done, which I think will be fine, as they wil be long-ish posts.

You should start that Thread up on the 30th, to make sure everyone has had their chance to get the game. Same goes with the other Threads.

NOTE: I also DON'T want to be sent a list of statistics about the game. I will do that myself, as I won't start the Thread up for a few days yet. It will possibly spoil my game, therefore I'll do that on my own time.

Thanks.

So you ask people to do that and now you say no, lol, I thought I was crazy ;)

Well it was a nice thought while it lasted!.
Just hope no more of my thread ideas get pilaged! he he

So you want a mod to clean this up even though you wont particularly care on friday?

Blake

Yeah, I actually thought about it for a second. It was a stupid idea, and it would provide me with Spoilers - something I don't want.
Blake

Huh? I still want a Moderator, as people will be posting threads with questions that could be asked in other Forums, threads like the Spoiler Thread, etc need to be closed to prevent them being unnecessarily posted in, and other general clean-ups will need to be done for a long time to come.

Spoilers, obviously, won't be an issue after Friday. But they are now. The above is what I want a Moderator for. And it will be mroe extensive than I think. I can't wait to people settle in with this game, and the Forum goes back to normal again, where people are friendly, less rushed, they don't have to be as careful and there will be people that will get over the game, therefore it will be less frantic. I can't wait for that day.

Yeah i agree, right now theres gonna be bitty half thoughtout threads that will get out of hand. Not to mention the misinformation that will be thrown around.

As I said earlier, we tell people they have done something wrong, we direct them where to post, and then no-one else bothers them and we just leave the thread. If people want to be post whores or just ignorant and reply to pointless threads that are being discussed elsewhere that's there problem and their, umm how do I put this, uhh, reputation is the best word I can think of, it's their reputation they're blowing. It would be nice for mods to do something about reported posts but for a sub-sub forum I think a moderator dedicated to this forum is unnecessary (though one that visited maybe once every couple of days just to help with reported post etc. would be nice).

Yeah. I've reported 3 posts since Monday night...still nothing. I don't think the Moderators see this Forum as essentially important, which saddens me. They won't admit that though.

That's why I would like one. Plus, deleting a heap of the crap, and closing a lot, would be a nice bit of Spring Cleaning for the Forum every now and then. I still think the "Moderator" (not to be confused with Super Moderator) idea is good. I want to know if it can be done.

There's nothing as irritating in a forum as heavy handed moderating. Moderators are there to delete spam and offensive posts and to move stuff that's in obviously in the wrong forum or thread. I don't want every second thread or post here deleted or merged with other threads. I don't like the idea of closing "a lot" of threads.

If there's the odd duplicate thread or off-topic post in a thread, then so what? Personally, I don't really see the need for much more moderation than is already being done here. The only thing I could see being irritating is having spoilers posted in the wrong threads for people who don't want to see them.

KM.

Thank you KM, exactly. I mean I don't think what has gone on the last couple of days is that bad, really it's not. I think MOST other people will agree with me, I haven't had my life ruined or anything from it. I dunno, maybe it's just me but I think it is almost A-OK.

Yeah, that is irritating.

I'm not calling for heavy-handed Moderating, and I'm not calling for Threads to be closed all the time. Certain Threads can be let die, sure, but I was saying a clean up every now and then wouldn't be so bad. There aren't actually any rules in this Forum as such, only a general code between us regulars, so there wouldn't be any suffocation, just the point of getting the message across to the newcomers.

Plus, Heavy-Handed Moderating includes warning for anything remotely off of the rules, and I doubt that would happen here. We just need ourselves a cleaner, as Newcomers have come here with lots of pre-packaged San Andreas food, and are beginning to litter. It will be more extensive once people are done hiding in their rooms playing this without Food or Water. Once they get their feed, they will be in here.

I agree it is fine, really, and I suppose it's not too bad.

I think this Moderator conversation has gotten too extensive, and it has seemed like I'm desperate. All I originally wanted was to ask some people here to have someone to do some Housekeeping. Plus I originally just made it as a warning, and it hasn't struck too bad yet. I don't think we are in dire need of a Moderator right now, I agree. I only meant this to be a warning of IF it happens.

I really think this has gone too far, and my original intentions were thrown away. I realise I'm partly to blame. Sorry.

Thanks.

I was considering writing down the stats you start off with and sending just those to you but I actually was having trouble reading some of them-- I need to move my console to my Bigger screen TV with the S-vid input.

Actually Jimmy, you might want to wait a few weeks (or a month or two) before you start the recordbook. I think most people will be too busy to worry about records-- although I do have 59 kills so far. There are very few extraneous stats in there right now-- I believe the street races and such get added in as you do them (like VC)---

Anyway, I am an avid recordbook guy and I really don't have any desire to participate yet-- I'm sure your book will be huge but not from the start-- there is just so much to discover and see in the game.

I think when the time is right to start it, you will know-- just my opinion anyway.

As far as the extraneous threads-- it was bad on monday night but they are dying off and as long as we self police and not get drawn into flame wars, I think we will be ok here--- just ignore the extraneous threads and they will soon be gone-- I have been looking at the thread list page and as long as I don't see any spoilers there, I'll keep looking, but if it becomes a problem, I'll be in hiding.

Spuds.

Yeah. Well first of all, I would like to finalise this Moderator debate. I have thought it over, and I have decided we don't need one. It would be nice, as I'm sure most of you will agree (except maybe KM), but I have decided we don't need one. This did go too far, and it did make it seem like I wanted a Moderator alot, but in actual fact, I really didn't. It started out as a discussion. But I would still like a (current) Moderator to come in here and clean a few things up, possibly when I make my San Andreas Record Book. Then would be a good time.

Spuds, I plan on starting preparation for my San Andreas Record Book this weekend (that does not mean posting it on GTP yet). Although it is too soon for people to start posting Records, I will have this Record Book up by the end of next week. It will be stickied, so there is no fear of it dying.

The only problem I will have is too many Records being posted, but I have been clear about this in the rules I made for it.

Now one thing, and I hope alot of other GTPers are listening: I will be creating the Record Book in separate posts, so please, no posting until I complete it, and post a specific sentence, telling you that you may post. Until then, don't post in it, as it will separate the way it is set out, and I will close it down and start again. There would be no need to post anyway. So please consider that. I will also warn in the primary post when I start posting each Record section.

The way I'm going to set it out is:
1st Post: Sort of like a Main Menu. Holds the Banner (thank you KM), rules, thank you's, contents (links to the other posts to make it easier) and general information.
Rest of the Posts: These will split up the Records into a number of sections. Seeing as I know there will be alot of Records when the game is finished, I have decided to separate into a few sections. This will create user-friendly browsing for Records, and make it much easier to search for what you want. I will probably have Main Records, Racing Records, Other Records, etc. I don't exactly know what will be held in the Stats page as of yet (I don't have the game), but you get the idea.

Any problems with that, tell me.

Good idea to break it up-- the game breaks stats it into 5 or 6 categories already--I forget their names but its like: Achievements, weapons, vehicles.....

-- good idea on your formating-- I might to that to the VC one and at least move superjumping to the post below the main record book (since I made the first one) and then add more categories for different superjumps.

How do the stats compare to Vice City and GTA III? I bet there's tons of them. I had a feeling that they'd pull out all the stops and just dump every conceivable stat onto the stats page.

KM.

This is bordering on a spoiler (although minor) although nothing you won't know a few minutes into the game

So far, very similar to VC-- but one of the pages has your attributes with bars that you need to fill up--- Stamina, muscle, fat (you want this down), respect, etc... your kills are broken up into a few sub categories (legitimate, criminals, gang,...)

I think more get added as you play the game more--I didn't notice spots for vigilante, firefighter, taxi-- although you can do R3s.

There are also stats on competing gangs-- shows how yours compares to the others---

Once again-- I really haven't looked at them too hard, they are kind of hard to read on my 27" TV. I'll be hooking up to the 36" tomorrow when I play.

Sounds good how they've done the stats page, I can't wait to see it for myself in a few hours!

Yeah, well I looked at that, and I knew you would respond and tell me that it's already broken up. It looks like that's exactly how it's going to be broken up in my Record Book. Rockstar have done all the work for me.

The stats are also annoyingly to focus on on my crappy little 40cm TV, but once we finish building our new (quite large :D) house, I'll have my parents' 75 (I think) centimetre TV. The small TV makes you focus on missions.

Oops.

Centimetres. 40cm and 75cm.

Sorry, we speak differently Down Under. I just kind of wasn't thinking and posted similar to everyone else. Can't we all just speak the same!?
