I know it sounds insane but...

That guy with the really long paragraph HAS A POINT!
AND THIS IS... UNDENIABLY TO BE TESTED!!

I'm not sure how credible that would be considering he doesn't back it up and there was still a lot of sketchy information around that time.

Like Custom878 said, there is zero proof of those parts having an effect on a car's performance. For all we know, these "effects" could almost certainly be just a placebo. While some people feel that different spoilers have minute differences (One gives better grip at top speed but allows your car to rotate a little in low-speed turns and the other gives maximum grip at all times), we don't have any proof.

I hate when people go around trying to convince others that these parts effect performance when they haven't done any actual testing, or their results are inconsistent/can't be reproduced.

always worth giving it a try, 2 players, 2 mostly identical setups, create a drag race on the airfield. for start both keep trigger pressed completely to rule out reaction time.

No. Drag races are extremely inaccurate and unreliable when you factor in lag.

even if you both drive just one length of runway just straight ahead, and then compare end results?? .... i assume end results are measured on the local machine so comparing them should indicate if certain parts have influence. even do a few rounds per setup and average the results

The game's been out for 2 years at this point, and the driving physics have been tested and datamined thoroughly - if there were any evidence whatsoever that bulletproof tyres, custom tyres, armor upgrades, chrome/metal paints, etc. then we would already know about it. A purely speculative post written half a year after the game's initial release really isn't worth going back to at this point.

I'm particularly more interested if body parts adding to the hurtbox of the car, or will it clip through like the Frogger searchlight. Will having a smaller wing be better than one that towers your car roof? Yes, I'm looking at the Massacro here.

With enough fact finding from Broughy, there's nothing else to dispute about performance. Those videos are decisive enough.

I'm not sure about wings, but bumpers/skirts are just cosmetic and will clip through the ground at times (Ex: Penumbra bumpers & skirts).

I remember reading somewhere that the lower suspensions gave you better traction. Is that true or is it a cosmetic thing?

Totally cosmetic.

All suspension things are cosmetic.. tried all options for my tail happy Guardian and the handling didn't change.

Also: there's this one glitch that makes vehicles unable to be modified when.... dun dun dun... it has the Patriot smoke tires.

In terms of what parts may or may not give you a tiny performance improvement, I think a good driver can pretty much out weigh almost most of them.

Of course if you race against a top driver then you may not win but for the majority of drivers knowing when to break will gain you plenty of time over those who think the key to racing is to be flat out.

I created lots of races under the name driveclub and specifically created tracks and courses that require throttle control, early braking and more skill than performance.

It's amazing how many players struggle on them even with fully upgraded cars and when they lose they down vote the race.

Saying that though I've upgraded all of my cars so I have them exactly how I want them and i often choose looks over certain body parts that may improve performance.

So that's why I can't sell my Sandking XL. Glad it will never be patched on PS3.

In a "jet vs me in a jet" situation, my battles always end with me *winks eyes quickly*..

...and my opponent making an amorous smooch with military flying equipment.

I'd like to see some dynamic weapons of most any kind. The wet fish would certainly be entertaining, but how about a medieval flail? :P
