Looks great, but something about the animations put me off a bit. Some of them looked very mechanical. And the textures on the red van they drove for a bit were weird.

It annoys me that their E30 Cab has door handles from VW Rabbit...

Otherwise... I must admit... The game is like living in a movie

No wonder the trailer is on Netflix, delivering the highest quality visual in 4K
lol yeah I kept saying that looks like a bucket e30 with rabbit or 90s Scirocco lights

Also J reminds me of a mix of older Eminem/ Brian from fast and furious/ and Chris hemsworth

In terms of vehicles, here is what I can find through the Extended Look. Might as well make a separate thread for all the vehicles that were spotted (including GTA Online returnees), but here's the most interesting ones:

A Willard sedan based on an late 1980s-early 1990s Buick (Willard Elegant)?

I dunno about this.

With the YouTube compression, it is barely proper 4K anymore

Rockstar uploaded the video on their website and you can download it directly. It is 14GB

Wait the whole thing? FREE OF CHARGE? You're kidding!

Speaking on the Kinda Funny Gamecast, Kinda Funny’s Andy Cortez and Greg Miller revealed that they asked Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson about the potential for microtransactions in GTA, as well as the use of generative AI in its development. Both reported that the answer to both questions was simply “no.”
“Can you use your own real-world money to buy things in the game? No monetization,” Cortez said. “I asked point blank, ‘is AI in the game?’ No AI,” Miller continued.
Ties in with what the IGN article said about making money being a bigger part of the game. No way to skip it with Shark cards, save those for the Online nonsense.

I’ll amaze myself if I’m playing it from my age at 55 through to if I make it to 69.

We are the first generation of kids who grew up playing computer games. If you're still playing them now there's no reason to believe you won't be then. Just because the generation above us largely doesn't, doesn't mean it won't be the norm for us. IMO. :)

I hope money does become a more important part of the game. With so many open world games, the gathering of wealth is really important early on, but you quickly get to a point where you are just hoarding wealth for the sake of it and there's very little you can actually spend it on that makes that pursuit worthwhile.

They kinda had to with all the leaks forcing their hand. Who's going to bother with a Netflix subscription to watch a 30 minute game trailer when you've got someone allegedly* threatening to spoil the entire game story?

*assuming the leaks are genuine and not just a massive marketing swerve by Rockstar, because they have to know that controversy grabs headlines

Only have a 1080p Netflix sub right now.
Watching it again in 4K on YT this morning just blew me away a second time.

There’s also a deliberate effort to not let you feel as overpowered as you could in previous GTA games, where you could freely gun down civilians if you wanted to, so long as the cops don’t catch you.
‘I think in previous GTA games you were a bit all-powerful. You were the only one with an invisible arsenal hidden away. Apart from the police, everyone would run in terror from you if you started acting out. This world in GTA 6 is not like that,’ explains Nelson.

Some people/children are going to absolutely hate this :D

The profile system also seems interesting. Sounds like it's teaching players how to better & smarter criminals.

I'm not able to type much right now, but suffice it to say that I have very mixed feelings about GTA VI - I realise I'm getting old, but I really don't like this series any more, and the trailer on Netflix last night left me cold and a bit disgusted to be honest. I get that it looks absolutely incredible, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to see the point of games like this.

Making a clear distinction between Single Player and the crazy sandbox of Online is fine with me. I avoid the latter for a reason.

Too funny. When the chaos of the first GTAs were putting fear into adults about the influence of violent games towards children. Now, the latest game is more realistic in just about preaching there are consequences for violent actions. It’s too real.

It’s crazy though. Being cunning requires more thinking and this game is going to delve more into clever thievery. Maybe staying under the radar might be a theme youth start to learn in this day. Right.
See? :D

I’m looking at it from an exploration point of view. There are more recreational things to do in VI. If the merit system is supposed to reward players for being smart rather than chaotic, that’s fine by me.

V lacked so much in offline that all there’s really to do is go on sprees with weapons. I mainly chose to fly and drive trucks from Cluck N’ Bell to the docks. Drop those off and take another truck or delivery vehicle to certain locations.

Maybe fishing, hunting and people and nature watching will be awesome ways to unplug in this virtual world. Snapping pics of flamingos, tackling snapping turtles and maybe there’s even greyhound racing to keep us players interested in doing new things. We’ll see.

For those interested in the choice of music (like me):

I was (pleasantly) surprised by how much British music was included and also wondering if this will impact the music charts as inevitably people will look out for the songs.

Let's get Sir Cliff to number 1!

I feel like the way the mechanics are now, I will be more include to play at a much slower pace. With the rumored size of the map, I'm probably going to be dumping countless of hours just exploring as well. I know I won't have the time I had in my younger years to play the game for 12 hrs straight for multiple days in a row, I'll be lucky to get 4hr for the week lol so I'm expecting I will playing this for quite a while.

While I like that they asked, this isn’t surprising. Rockstar isn’t going to monetize single player; the fact they abandoned V’s story after a couple updates sadly tells that story.

A different question could’ve been to ask if they have plans or want to expand “the city/story” down the line. Unfortunately, I’m not expecting them to. Once they caught on it was a way to test cars in V, then the updates there stopped.

I hope they implement a NG+ type mode once you complete the main story. Keep all your gear and cash etc, but with a more relaxed or less intense wanted system, so it feels like GTA's of old. You can just sandbox around without having to be overly cautious, like it sounds like you are going to have be in GTA VI.

I've squirreled away 20 articles in a tab group to slog through this weekend. High brow reading in this house.

This is how I'm looking at it. I'm honestly not much for violent games any more, but I'm still looking forward to GTA because there's basically an infinite number of ways to play it, and it doesn't punish you for just hanging out and exploring the world. Some of my favorite times playing V were just taking a bike ride around the map or going for a hike or something, but it always felt like that wasn't really the intended way to play it. I'm glad Rockstar seems to have learned that not everyone wants to play it the same way, and if you want to lead a virtual life that's as crime-free as possible you're not going to be missing out on an integral part of the experience or anything.

I enjoyed Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV, and even GTA V to a (much) lesser extent, and there's no doubt that GTA offers an incredible open-world/sandbox environment; driving around or exploring the map, doing side missions or just chilling out to Emotion 98.3 are happy memories for me from the franchise.

And yet this extended trailer opens with the lead character (i.e. your main role as an RPG) drug dealing, murdering police, stealing a car (well duh), driving on the wrong side of the road while being chased by the police*, beating someone with his bare fists in the street, gunning down people, carjacking at gunpoint, armed robbery, violent assault, pistol whipping a store clerk... I could go on. And that's the gameplay - that is the core of the game. It's grotesque and thoroughly nasty - everything else kind of pales into insignificance compared to that IMHO. GTA used to be satire - this doesn't look funny (or fun) to me at all.

I get that the vast majority of players will appreciate that the revolting behaviour depicted in the game is not something to personally replicate or aspire to (one can only hope...), but it's the immersive and role-playing nature of the game, combined with ultra-realistic graphics and environment, that I find unsettling - and it's also the reason I stopped playing GTA years ago - because I didn't like the way I was behaving in the game - and that's someone who knows how to behave in wider society.

It blows my mind to think that parents let their young kids play this crap, but it also saddens me that so many people get their kicks out of fantasy role-playing being a mass murderer and violent criminal thug - and lining the pockets of a company like Rockstar while they are at it. And, this is meant to be one of Scotland's crowning business achievements?

-

* Driving the wrong way on the road is not exactly the worst activity depicted in this horror-show of a trailer, but it is hugely insensitive timing given that car loads of young men are wiping themselves out (as well as any innocent people who are unlucky enough to get in their way) thanks to their idiotic behaviour, largely inspired by the vast swathes of inane and unfiltered content being served up to them on Tik Tok. It's really not a good look to be glorifying this type of activity right now, especially to a generation who appear to be struggling to understand that such idiotic behaviour in the real world can have devastating consequences.
